Chapter 15

Adam

It's been five days. Today was practice. Courtney is not back yet. The whole team was in the locker room to get ready for practice, except for Courtney and Coach.

I was putting on my skates when I heard the door to the locker room open. I looked over and saw Coach came in. "Hey team! Thanks for coming. I have someone with me now. Come in." I sat up more.

The door opened again, and I saw Courtney walk in. My eyes widened. She looked at me, then smiled. I got up and ran to her. We hugged tightly. I closed my eyes.

"You're back." I whispered. Courtney squeezed tighter.

"Of course I am." We let go. Charlie came over. He smiled.

"Courtney..." He sighed. She smiled. Charlie walked up to her and hugged her.

Once we got out the ice, we went to center ice and waited for Coach to tell us what to do. "Okay guys! Three more days till the championships! We need to practice today, tomorrow, and the next day." Coach announced. He looked at me. "The team we are playing... Is The Hawks."

I stared at him, wide eyed. We are playing my old team, the Hawks. I put my head down. I felt a hand come on my shoulder, it was Courtney. I didn't even have to look at her, I just knew. "Okay, let's get back on the ice. Let's do sprints." We all got up and went to one side of the rink.

"How's it feel on the ice again?" I asked Courtney. She looked at me, then smiled.

"I missed it. This is my second home. I'm happy I'm back."

After practice, I went into the locker room and I got dressed in my regular clothes. I was still thinking about us playing the Hawks. It didn't feel right.

I started to leave the locker room. I rounded the corner, then, I stopped. I heard Courtney and Connie talking. "So how's it feel to be back?" Connie asked.

"Great. I'm glad." Courtney replied.

"Oh yeah. Okay, Guy asked me out." Connie blurted. There was a pause.

"Really? Did you say yes?" Courtney asked.

"Yeah! So me and him are dating and he's gonna take me ice skating at the lake tonight!" Connie yelled in excitement. I smiled slightly.

Good for her.

"You must be so happy." Courtney implied.

"Hasn't Adam asked you out?" Connie asked. There was another pause. I closed my eyes.

"No, we are just crushing on each other, that's all. If I tell you this, you can't tell anyone else this." Courtney said with the most serious voice I have ever heard from her.

"Okay, I promise." Connie said. There was a pause for Courtney. I heard shuffling like either Courtney or Connie was walking around.

"I'm starting to like Charlie a little too. I don't know why though."
