Chapter 9 Allies

Katniss notices three individuals appearing out of the jungle the group got their weapons ready.

That's when Cassie noticed the shape of one of the figures and called out "Johanna is that you?"

"Yeah. Is that you Cassie?"

"Yeah" Cassie yelled back.

Johanna, Wiress and Beetee all emerge from the forest covered in blood.

"Dam what happened to you?" Finnick asked them.

Joanna began explain how they were so thirsty that when it started raining they stuck their tongues out expecting normal rain but no. It was raining hot blood.

Beetee was badly injured and Wiress was driving everyone mad as she kept mumbling "Tick tock". The group help the trio wash off all the blood. Katniss was helping clean Wiress who kept repeating the same thing over and over.

That's when Katniss comes to the revelation that the arena is set up like a giant clock.

"Guys!" Katniss yells scaring Peeta who jumped into defensive mode.

"The Arena is just a massive clock each event happens on each gong."

Beetee thought this through "I think she's right" he said. The alliance began to make plans to head to the cornucopia and resupply.

It took a few hours as they had to switch when helping Beetee. When they finally arrived they began to restock on whatever was left.

Cassie managed to find a large coil of wire and was about to ask Beetee if it was useful but she was stopped when the group heard a large splash behind.

Cassie sprang into action and jumped into the water after seeing Wiress's body face down dead.

"Cassie get down!" Finnick yelled when Gloss suddenly came running at her.

Cassie closed her eyes not thinking, Katniss shoots Gloss to save Cassie.

When Cassie realised there was no longer a threat she gets out of the water, she and Johanna tag team and they bring both of their axes down killing Cashmere.

Without warning the cornucopia starts to spin distorting their ability to tell time. Cassie tried to hold on as it was spinning but she was beginning to feel sick and her hand loosened.

When Finnick noticed he grabbed onto her ferociously and waited for the spinning to stop.

"You okay?" Finnick asked Cassie.

"I think so" Cassie said not entirely sure that she was. For her the world was still spinning.

Once they had all the supplies they needed they left to try and remind themselves of what was where at what time.

That's when Katniss suddenly stops. She listens, "Prim?" she whispered. Then she yelled it and took off running.

Cassie ran after her and the others followed quickly. When they caught up to her she was hysterical.
Cassie was going to try and calm her down promising that everything would be fine. Thats when Cassie hears it.

"Mum?" she asked then she hears a second voice "Dad?" the voices became louder for Cassie and Katniss and the two set off again.

They found out it was just Jabber Jays but when they tried to walk away there was a huge barrier. An invisible barrier.

Finnick crashes into the barrier trying to break through. "Cassie!" He yelled but she couldn't hear.

The Jabber Jays grew violent and began to attack. The voices of her parents traumatized her. She hadn't heard their voices in over 5 years.

It took her back to that fateful day.

Cassie was walking home when a doctor rushed passed her and ran to Cassie's house.

"Excuse me" Cassie asked "What's going on?"

"A lady has fallen down the stairs and died here today Miss"

"WHAT?!" Cassie charged into the house and saw her Father at the table crying. Cassie's mother was laying dead on the floor at the bottom of the stairs.

The doctors tried to placate her by saying she was in a better place and that she had gone quickly and painlessly.

The only thing they seemed to have forgotten was that Cassie had been surrounded by liars since she had first gone to the Capitol.

Cassie ran out of the house that night and didn't return till the next day she was drunk when Tiffany found her in a barn, Tiffany had taken her to her house and explained that Cassie's father had taken his own life in the grief.

Cassie didn't react. It wasn't because she didn't hear. It wasn't even because she was drunk.

From that day Cassie just switched off. She didn't eat, she didn't sleep, she didn't do anything. She just stared. It had gotten so bad that Tiffany had to ask the Capitol for permission to send Finnick over to see if he could get through to her.

He managed to briefly but it had hurt her too much. She remembers the day she exploded at him. Cassie regretted that day so much.

She was in the Kitchen with him when he tried to make her smile with a joke. She wasn't in the mood so she snapped. She begun making fun of him calling him rude names and hurtful obscenities, she even threw cups and plates at him.

And the entire time he stood there and took it. He didn't cry he didn't yell, he didn't even react. He had just pulled her close hugging her and he finally realised the extent of damage that had been done to her.

Finnick had helped her through it all. He was there every step of the way through her grief. On the good days and bad days. And that was something she could never forget.

They had been their for each other since they were 15 and for his sake she began to try and pull herself together.

Another cannon sounded in the nearby wedge causing a tribute, the District 10 male, to be collected in pieces. This snapped Cassie out of her daydream. She eventually saw Finnick.

"Oh god Cassie you're okay" he said in relief as he pulled her close and began to cry "I thought I'd lost you again"

The alliance settled down for the night again. That night the screen projected more pictures of those who died.

When everyone went to sleep that night Cassie and Finnick slept side by side. Finnick saw a piece of hair fall into Cassie's eye as she slept. He brushed it out of her face as he said "You'll never know how much I love you Cassie."

Little did he know that Cassie wasn't asleep. Cassie's heart began to race. Sure Finnick was a nice guy, he was also her best friend and maybe if they weren't fighting for their lives she might have returned those feelings.

The last romance she had in the arena didn't end well.

Once Cassie knew that he was asleep she got up and walked around trying to clear her head,
