Ch16: We'll Meet Again.

"We kept all their bodies wrapped up...we weren't sure what to do with them." The kakushi said somberly.

The two boys watched silently from afar as the girl talked to the kakushi about the state of her humble abode and its residents. Most of the crows had fled to the master's place which Y/n already knew, some had run away, and some...didn't make it. A few of the kakushi had been told about her existence to help clean the mess, not before being sworn to secrecy though.

"This place looks like shit..."

"Hush Iguro-San! don't say that!" Kyojuro whispered to his fellow student.

He wasn't lying though even with the three weeks of work done on it the place still looked trashed. Blood stained the dirt and stones on the ground and countless things where smashed or knocked over. The big tree Y/n had been thrown had been carried out already, so the place seemed kind of bland.

"With all due respect L/n-Sama I know this must be hard for you, but you might have to move, it'll be much to dangerous living here with the demons knowing your location." The kakushi explained.

"How many..."

"Huh?"

"How many crows died?"

The kakushi looked hesitant, "Around twenty...five are in critical condition..."

No...

"Sorry, four are in critical condition, one just died a few days ago..."

Oh no...

The girl dug her nails into her palms but tried keeping a calm face on. She wanted to cry, of course, she wanted to throw a full-on tantrum but.... She was one of the masters and leaders of the Demon Slayer Corps, people might doubt her and Ubuyashiki-Sama if she acted rash now.

Stupid, stupid, I should've been there...Instead I went to a festival, moron...

"I'm sorry." Y/n smiled sadly, "Could you leave me for a moment, I need some time alone..."

"Of course..." The kakushi pointed to some boxes behind them, "Their bodies are being stored in there if you want to see them, I warn you though it might be graphic..." They started to walk away but turned back gingerly and bowed, "I'm so very sorry for your loss L/n-Sama, I'm sure....im sure they would've made great additions to the corps..."

When the girl didn't answer the kakushi turned and left, being stopped by the young Rengoku.

Y/n walked over to the box and stared at it; this was where they were? She forced her shaking hands to pull on the top of the box, it creaked open, and she looked inside. She wanted to melt away right there and then. There were about twenty dead crows inside, just like the kakushi had said, all of them wrapped in a white cloth with a "deceased" pin on them. Her small hands gripped the box frame tighter. She wanted to throw up.

'It should've been me...why didn't he just eat me?! I deserved it! They didn't do anything...' She rested her head on the side of the box, she could smell their corpses starting to rot, the scent burned through her heart and nose. She closed her eyes as tears started to attack them, she desperately tried to keep them in. 'I was in charge of taking care of you, I failed. I'm sorry...' She thought, "I'm so, so very sorry..." Her e/c now dripped miserably with tears as she opened them, "I hope you be reborn again, and in your next life you live happily crow or not...goodbye my children..."

"Uh...Y/n-San I'm sorry to interrupt..." Rengoku placed a soft hand on her back, "Are you ok?"

Her breath hitched and she heard a hissing sound was heard but Y/n didn't budge, she kept her head low.

"Kyojuro, let's just leave her alone." A voice hissed quietly

"Ah ok, Y/n-San if you need something we'll be helping with the cleanup."

It was quiet for a moment before the girl answered, "There's no need."

She lifted her head up wiping her tears, and turned to them, not making any eye contact. "I've already gotten permission from Gyomei-San to stay with him for a while instead of the butterfly estate. I'll be heading there now, please feel free to head home."

The two boys looked at each other as she started to walk away. Igruo shrugged when Rengoku gave him a "what do we do now?" look.

Finally making his decision Rengoku started running after the girl/n-San! Wait up were going to accompany you!"

Obanai sighed tiredly and started following the two others, as Kaburamaru nuzzled him comfortably.

"Iguro-San."

The male perked up at the mention of his name.

The three where now walking into forest to the direction of Gyomeis home, Y/n walked in front leading the way as the two quietly followed behind her.

"I remember Shinjuro-San saying your currently mastering your own breathing style." Y/n said, "What's that called?"

"Serpent breathing..."

"Ah, was it named after Kaburamaru?..."

He shrugged but when he realized the girl wasn't looking at him, he replied, "I guess..."

They went back to silence for a few minutes the sounds only being their footsteps and slightly heavy breathing.

"Y/n-San!" Rengoku chimed, trying to ease the mood, "I heard your older brother is the Shadow Hashira! Do you also possess a form of breathing?"

"No, I was really never into the stuff..."

"Wait? Your brother is the Shadow Hashira? Is that the one you and Sensei said I was like earlier." Iguro chimed in Kaburamaru hissing along.

"Yes, that's him." The girl chuckled.

"Are your parents also in the Demon Slayer Corps somehow!?" Kyojuro asked.

"My parents are dead."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"Oh, wow Rengoku, nice." Obanai muttered.

"IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, IM SORRY IM SORRY!" Kyojuro waved his hands while his face flared red of embarrassment.

"Its fine, I don't really care. I never knew them."

After that conversation Kyojuro had decided to shut up much to Obanai's satisfaction....
