Chapter 27.5!

The accident which involved secretary (YN) came as a massive surprise not only to the people in his workspace but to the company as a whole. The accident was the company's recent scandal and as well as its biggest.

Just goes to show that Ms.Kang has cleanly ran her company ever since.

When (YN)'s co-workers heard about what happened to him, they immediately wanted to drop everything and check up on him.

They still had a couple of hours of work left to finish. With Ms.Kang out to sort out the company's problems and Secretary (YN) in the hospital, everyone had extra amounts of paperwork to be done which covered both of their positions.

They narrowly missed the visiting hours of the hospital (YN) stayed in the first time. That meant that they needed to try again the following days. They couldn't do much as from what they've heard so far, (YN) hasn't woken up yet.

Everyone seemed to be worried for the highly admired secretary but throughout the whole office, there was a person who was more worried than anybody else present.

.

.

.

*Ding!*

The sound of the hospital's automatic doors rang out letting a short haired girl inside. She wore a thick coat to shield herself from the almost freezing temperatures outside. She had a mask on and with the glasses she wore, there were marks on them everytime she took a breath.

Underneath the coat was her suit as she needed to get to work after her visit to a certain secretary.

She looked around the lobby and found that there were little to no people around besides the hospital staff. Some people were seated in the lobby either reading newspapers or on their phone.

The girl walked forward and moved past the lobby. She went in front of the reception where a nurse was seated in front of a computer screen.

The nurse looked up from the screen to look at the girl looking back at them.

"What can I help you with, ma'am?" The nurse asked.

"I'm here to visit Han (YN)." The girl replied as she pulled her mask slightly to make her voice louder.

"Your name please." The nurse requested.

"It's Kim Chaewon. I'm one of his um.." Chaewon froze for a second. If she introduced herself as a coworker then they might not allow her in since she might be nothing but a colleague.

"..i'm one of his friends." Chaewon said.

The nurse nodded along with her words then stopped suddenly.

"He is free to visit but we were requested not to allow anyone inside of his room without their caretaker." The nurse explained carefully.

The girl's shoulders dropped and as well as her mood. She nodded her head slowly in agreement and turned from the desk until. blessing of another girl stood beside her.

"There's no need to worry, she's with me. I'll allow her to visit my brother. All she needs is my permission, right?"

Chaewon looked at the person beside her. They had long black and slightly wavy hair. The girl's height was slightly lower than the one next to them. And they wore a similar coat that was perfect for the cold weather.

Chaewon knew that they met before in much unfortunate circumstances but nothing bad was between them. She knew her but couldn't get the name even though it was at the tip of her tongue.

"Ah yes, you must be Han Chaeyeon. If you allow her then you two can head right over to his room." The nurse bowed at the two from their seat and pointed towards the direction of the hospital elevators.

"It's nice seeing you again, Chaewon-ssi. I didn't know you were visiting today. Are your other coworkers here too? I should've brought more food then." Chaeyeon politely greeted the girl beside her before bowing at her slightly.

Chaewon bowed right after and placed strands of her hair behind her ear. She looked at the hands of Chaeyeon and saw that she was carrying a shoulder bag with an assortment of her things inside, some snacks included.

The pair walked beside one another towards the hospital's elevators. Chaeyeon pushed the button going up and the doors suddenly opened. They then walked inside where they continued their conversation.

"O-oh about that. I'm the only one here...at the moment at least. They'll probably visit later."

Chaeyeon looked at her puzzeled.

"If they're not getting here until later..why didn't you go with them? You must really want to see my brother if you went here before they did."

Chaewon turned silent, looking for an answer.

"I was heading to work when I was near the hospital. I figured why don't I give him a visit or why don't I use this chance to see him, even if it's through a window or through a door." Chaewon replied, putting her hands into the pockets of her coat.

She tried her best to not make herself sound like she was worried sick for Chaeyeon's brother.

"You two go out after work, you tended for him when he was sick and now you're the first one out of your co-workers to visit him. Are you sure that there's nothing between you two?"

Chaeyeon suspiciously looked at the other girl with her eyes slightly squinted.

Chaewon on the other hand couldn't look her at her eyes. She forgot that Chaeyeon knew everything she and her brother has done but she explained that they were just close friends, very close.

"I-i..u-um.." Chaewon looked down slightly at the elevator floor.

"Oh don't sweat it. I know everyone there is worried sick about him so I understand. We should head to his room now." Chaeyeon patted her shoulder before she walked by her.

Chaewon followed right behind her. She felt herself warm up from Chaeyeon's questions earlier. If she would've said the wrong thing then it would've revealed her feelings towards her brother.

"Were you the one who asked them not to let anyone in without you around?" Chaewon asked the girl beside her, regaining her composure.

"What? Oh I didn't ask for them to do that. It was your boss, Hyewon unnie."

Chaewon's eyes suddenly widened. She has never heard anyone call their boss by her first name before not to mention that she called her unnie. It was too informal to her. If she called her that then she might've been unemployed by now.

"E-eh? Hyewon unnie? I've never heard anyone call Ms.Kang that before."

Chaeyeon nodded.

"Yeah, it was Hyewon unnie. She allowed me to call her that way when we first met so that's what I call her now. She actually enjoys it since she smiles whenever I call her that. Why don't you give it a try? Maybe you two can get close too."

"No thank you." Chaewon simply replied, looking back forward.

Chaewon never knew someone could get close to Ms.Kang that fast but seeing that (YN) was her brother maybe he told her a thing or two about their boss.

Chaewon wondered if she could ever get that close to Ms.Kang. She doesn't mind her current relationship to Ms.Kang but she wouldn't mind if she was a bit friendlier.

She wouldn't mind if they talked more freely to one another. She wouldn't mind if there wasn't a icey cold barrier in between her and the other workers.

As much as it would like, she couldn't see it happening any time soon. Ms.Kang was their boss and technically they are under her. If she wants to be friendly to them then that was her choice. Chaewon couldn't change that.

Chaewon and Chaeyeon moved out of the elevator doors shortly after the doors opened. Chaewon followed the other girl as they head into a hall. There weren't much other people around so the nurses on the floor rested at their station.

Even the coldness of the air outside reached this floor as Chaewon held onto her coat for warmth.

"We're here." Chaeyeon simply said, stopping in front of a hospital door.

The girl with Chaeyeon looked up at the door number and it was 143.

Chaewon couldn't see much into the room yet as Chaeyeon was in front of her. Once they were inside, Chaewon's heart almost dropped at the scene.

She saw the secretary she looked up to and admired stuck on a hospital bed. The only signs of life she saw was that his chest was still moving up and down slowly. The wired that were connected to him made Chaewon feel something unpleasant.

The mood prior of entering the room was gone. It has been replaced with something slightly more gloomy.

"That's where he's been ever since you know.." Chaewon heard the other girl say.

"Any news on when he'll wake up?"

"The doctor said he'll wake up soon enough.." Chaeyeon replied as she placed her things on onto a table.

"..luckily he didn't sustain any major injuries. Just some minor burns on some parts of his body and they're checking on him for his smoke inhalation from time to time. If all goes well and he wakes up soon then we'll be out of here before a week passes."

Chaewon carefully listened to the other girl while looking at the person resting in front of her. Her eyes shifted to a chair beside the bed where a neatly folded black suit was placed on top of it. Though it was neatly folded, it had visible burn marks on some of the fabric.

"Is this his suit?" Chaewon leaned down slightly and picked it up with both hands.

"Yeah, they changed his clothes once they got him here. The suit has had its better days so I guess I'll keep it somewhere in the house."

Chaewon ran her fingertips on the fabric on her hand with the other. She felt the rough burn marks and became saddened at the thought of what it and its owner went through.

No one knew that an explosion would happen especially (YN). She wondered what he felt like during what he possibly thought were his final moments.

What if he wasn't saved? What if he was instantly killed by that blast that shook everyone involved to the core.

Chaewon took a deep breath. She was reading into it a bit too deep.

'He's fine now and that's what matters..' She repeated in her head.

"Does he need a new suit? I could probably get him a new one if he needed it." Chaewon placed the fabric back down onto the seat then turned around.

"What? You don't need to do that. I'm sure he has plenty of other ones in his closet. You know how he is, always ready for anything. A burnt up suit included." Chaeyeon chuckled.

Chaewon nodded in agreement.

*Knock! Knock!*

She then turned towards the door after it was knocked twice. Chaeyeon was about to stand up from her seat until Chaewon gestured her not to.

"I'll go get it." Chaewon simply said.

She then started walking to the door, wondering who could it be. It might be a doctor coming in for an update or a nurse to check up on (YN).

Chaewon held the doorknob and slowly opened the door. Despite her expectations, what greeted her from behind the door was the familiar set of eyes with an icey sharp stare.

"M-Ms.K-Kang?!" Chaewon slightly raised her voice in surprise.

"Chaewon-ssi?" Hyewon replied calmly, her eyes slightly widening.

Chaewon froze in place. She immediately regained herself moments after and let her boss inside the room. She then bowed slightly to greet her.

"Good morning." Chaewon faintly heard Ms.Kang utter.

Chaeyeon stood up from her seat to also greet the person at the door.

"Eh? What are you doing here so early, Hyewon unnie?"

Chaewon looked at the two from the doorway and saw that Chaeyeon was anywhere but fazed at the sight of Ms.Kang.

"I wanted to visit and check up on his condition. I thought his doctor would be here but I guess they haven't checked in yet." Ms.Kang said looking around the room.

Hyewon then turned to Chaewon who stood up straight right beside her.

"Are you also here for a visit, Ms.Kim?"

"Y-yes ma'am.." Chaewon answered softly.

"Chaewon here was much earlier than you unnie! She was even looking for his room from the front desk!" Chaeyeon said with a slight chuckle.

Chaewon froze in her place once more. She didn't want to look at her scary boss beside her so her vision adjusted to the floor.

"Is that so? Office hours starts in about ten minutes too. Hmmmm.."

Chaewon gulped down a breath in nervousness. If Ms.Kang decided that she was trying to skim off hours at work or that she was going to be late then she is. Chaewon didn't want to know what'll happen to her.

"If you e-excuse me, i-i'll be off to the office now." Chaewon quickly turned around to exit the door until Ms.Kang called her.

"I'm also going to the office after this, why don't we head there together?"

Chaewon's movements stopped at its place. She heard Ms.Kang clearly and turned around slowly.

"W-What? You? Me? Going to the office? Together?" Chaewon frantically asked as Ms.Kang just nodded along to every word she said.

"Yes, I don't see a problem to the idea unless you have an objection, Chaewon-ssi."

"N-No I-i don't have any! Are you sure though ma'am? I'll be late for work at this rate."

"Late or not you'll still be in for work. I won't mind if you were late by a couple minutes. Mind I remind you that you're going with me so if you're late then so am I."

Chaewon made sure her hearing was right. Ms.Kang, her scary and strict boss, told her that she didn't mind her being late. She also made a good point with the both of them being late if they go together

Ms.Kang then turned to Chaeyeon.

"I'll be picking up a few things from the office then I'll be heading back here to see if his doctor is around. Keep a good eye on him, will you? Call me immediately if anything happens."

"Yes ma'am!" Chaeyeon responded with her arm raised slightly giving a small salute.

Chaewon looked at the two as they talked. With the way Ms.Kang was speaking, she sounded very concerned just like her. The whole situation did involve her own secretary so it would only be natural to be concerned.

"We should get going then, Chaewon-ssi."

Hyewon turned to the girl already near the door. Chaewon nodded and opened the door to let them out but before she did, she waved goodbye to Chaeyeon.

Chaewon pulled a leather strap across her chest as she sat down on a passenger's seat of a car. She breathed in the air inside and it smelled like flowers but it had this rich, classy smell mixed into it. It was also not too sharp on the nose. She couldn't expect less from Ms.Kang.

Chaewon watched as her boss walked before the front of the towards the driver seat. She usually had a driver with her, maybe she wasn't present.

The door opened and Ms.Kang sat right beside her. She also wore her seatbelt carefully and then started the car. Ever since they were out of the room, the pair was silent. Not one of them uttered a word towards the other. The radio wasn't on which contributed to the silence shared between them.

The car slowly reversed out of its parking spot and went out of the parking lot.

Everything was going fine when they stopped at a red light.

"Chaewon-ssi, do you mind if I ask you something?" Chaewon heard her boss ask.

"I don't mind, ma'am. What is it?"

"How is everybody else doing? I assume they're doing just fine maybe a little shaken at the sudden news."

"Oh they're alright. A few extra pieces of work doesn't affect them much. The situation stunned everyone, me included. We didn't expect someone as secretary (YN) to get into an accident. It was definitely a blow the our morale but we can handle." Chaewon explained, looking out the window.

"How about Minju? Has she covered secretary (YN)'s spot well?"

"I think she has. She hasn't had any complaints as far as I know and she's been working very diligently. I think (YN) taught her well."

"That's...that's good." Ms.Kang nodded, keeping her eyes on the road. Chaewon was surprised by her sudden change of tone. She sounded worried like she was earlier.

'Should I ask her too?..' Chaewon wondered.

"How about you, Ms.Kang? Are you holding up well?"

Hyewon glanced at the girl beside her.

"I could be better. I am just as worried as everyone." She admitted as she took in another breath.

"The accident came as a surprise to everyone and especially to me. I couldn't help but think that the fault falls on me. We could've chosen a much better venue and maybe he wouldn't be in this state currently." Ms.Kang continued.

Chaewon was taking it in well but she didn't know that Ms.Kang had this side to her.

"I don't think you should be shouldering the blame all to yourself, Ms.Kang. It was a surprise as you said so no one saw it coming. Even if you were one hundred percent sure that the place was safe, anything could still happen." Chaewon said calmly.

"Was that your best attempt at comforting me?" Ms.Kang asked. Chaewon suddenly sat straight on her seat. She turned her eyes to her boss and saw that she had a small smile on her face.

"If so, thank you."

Such a simple phrase but it showed Chaewon that she was just as humas as she was, not some ruthless person. Just then, Chaewon felt like she was open to ask her boss anything she wanted to. She can freely talk to her and not restrict herself. She could say that she was becoming comfortable with her.

She let out a deep exhale.

"You're welcome"

Chaewon replied with a smile that lasted for the whole ride.
