At Scott's house, Corey pointed to a black mark on the ceiling. "That's how he got in?"

"What is this?" Scott wondered.

"It's a point of impact from a lightning strike," Mason replied. "Usually you'd find charred spots like that on the ground after a violent thunderstorm."

"That's how the Ghost Rider got in. He rode lightning," Scott realized.

Stiles glanced at them. "If they can use the lightning to get past the Mountain Ash... No place is safe."

"What about the others?" Corey wondered. "It's my fault they're marked."

Scott shook his head. "We'll find some way to protect him."

Scott and Stiles met up with Lydia and Malia. Lydia showed them an ID card. "It's a relic."

Malia frowned. "What's a relic?"

"An object with a fixed association to the past. Jake's ID was left behind after he was taken. And Gwen found her sister's bracelet on her bedroom floor."

Scott frowned. "How can a person can be erased and leave something behind?"

"A conservation of mass," Lydia explained. "The total mass of any isolated system remains constant."

Malia nodded slowly. "So even the Ghost Riders have a weakness."

Stiles smiled lightly. "If we find a relic, we have proof that Molly existed."

Scott nodded. "And maybe we can bring them back."

---

Lydia and Stiles made their way back to the boys' home and Dean frowned at them. "You want to search our house."

The two nodded as Lydia said, "People are leaving things behind. Relics. So if Molly left anything..."

"Why, why would it be there?"

Stiles narrowed his eyes. "You can't just erase people. There's always something they leave behind."

Dean sighed. "I couldn't sleep last night. So, um, I got up, figured I'd do some research, which wasn't as bad as I thought. The files were in the back of the car. So, I, I go to the garage, and some of Sam's stuff has fallen off a shelf and I, I stubbed my toe on the back of a gun. Without thinking, I yelled a name..."

"Molly," Stiles finished.

The two walked through the house. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

Lydia shook her head. "No. Thank you."

"Good luck. I'll leave you both to it."

Stiles turned, hearing a voice. "Can you see me?"

He and Lydia looked closer at the wallpaper and looked around, making sure no one was coming. They both grabbed a corner of the wallpaper and started peeling it back. Dean rushed in and stepped in front of them, causing Lydia to flinch.

"What are you two doing?" Dean demanded.

Stiles stared at him nervously. "I'm sorry. We shouldn't have done that."

"I think that's something we can agree on." He looked at Stiles sympathetically. "Look, kid, maybe you should talk to someone."

---

Lydia and Stiles ran to the school.

As soon as they arrived, Natalie Martin walked up to the two and frowned at them. "Were you two tearing Sam and Dean's wallpaper?"

Stiles nodded. "Yes."

She sighed. "Lydia, Stiles, I'm getting concerned about your mental health."

"I'm fine," Stiles said. "So is Lydia. I heard a voice that sounded like someone I knew. No one else heard it."

Ms. Martin frowned. "Well, if Sam and Dean aren't hearing ghosts, maybe it's because they're not crazy."

"Molly isn't a ghost."

"Stiles, Molly doesn't exist."

Lydia glared at her mom. "Stiles and I aren't crazy. We were trying to find something Molly left behind. We were looking for a relic."

"Did you?"

Stiles shook his head. "No. Dean made us leave before we could find anything."

"Probably because you were tearing his wallpaper. Oh, sweetheart, Stiles. I've known Sam and Dean since they saved my life years ago. I trust them."

Lydia nodded. "Do you know what a confirmation bias is? The tendency to interpret information in a way that confirms a existing preconception."

Ms. Martin nodded. "Yes. It's a biased preconception."

"You're looking for proof to support what you already believe is true."

"Because you two want it to be true," Ms. Martin replied, turning back to the blonde.

Stiles frowned. "Molly is real."

"But do you believe there's a possibility she's not?"

Lydia looked to her mother. "Stiles believes she's real, and so do I."

The three of them headed to the hospital and explained to Melissa why they were there.

Melissa frowned. "You want what? You want what?"

"Candice's medical records," Stiles replied. "Just for a minute. Please. We know it's a lot to ask."

"It's up there. It's way up there."

Ms. Martin smiled a little. "As the more recently enlightened of the three of us, trust me. There are lives at stake."

Melissa sighed. "Letting the three of you look at private medical records is completely and utterly against hospital regulations. So, we better make this fast."

She looked up Candice Roberts' records on the computer. "Sorry, guys. According to her medical records, Candice never had children."

"Well, but how did she..." Lydia began.

"Frontotemporal dementia," Melissa finished. "There must be a mistake."

Stiles frowned. "No, that's wrong. Molly never said her mom had that. I mean, I've never met her, but Molly never mentioned anything like that."

They looked at the records and Ms. Martin frowned. "Ten years ago she died. She and someone named John Winchester never had children."

Argent was wheeled in and Melissa left. They rushed out and saw Scott and Malia.

Melissa frowned. "He has blunt force trauma to his temporal bone, three broken ribs, and multiple surface lacerations which see to be from whip marks? What he needs is a lot of rest."

"What happened?" Lydia and Stiles wondered.

Malia raised her eyebrows. "The Ghost Riders took everyone. We barely even slowed them down."

Scott turned to Stiles and Lydia. "Tell us you found something."

Stiles let out a frustrated sigh. "Well, we found out that Candice never had children, so Molly can't be her daughter."

"What about a relic?" Malia asked as Lydia and Stiles shook their heads. "There never was a Molly, was there?"

"It doesn't even seem possible," Scott mumbled.

Lydia glanced at Stiles before she spoke. "We have to keep looking. Check the school records again. Or call Scott's dad..."

Malia shook her head. "We're fighting the wrong battle."

Stiles sighed. "We're trying to get Molly back. She's real. I'm not giving up on this. On her. Not when she means so much to me. Not when... Not when I love her." He stared at the ground solemnly.

Malia looked between them. "The Ghost Riders came back. We have no way of stopping them. And whatever they are, they're real. We can't keep chasing someone who isn't."

"She didn't leave anything behind," Scott said.

Stiles looked up and said quietly, "Just us."
