Chapter 2

As we sit in the empty compartment I pull out my latch hooking stuff and get started. Its a pretty big project, a meadow with the sea behind it. Maven watches me as I sit there ignoring the world. When I finish the sea and start to get started on the sky I hear a knocking on the door. Me and Maven look up simultaneously. At the door is a girl and guy our age. I open it up.

"Hey, do you guys have room? The other compartments are full." The girl asks. I recognize her from somewhere but can't place it.

"Yeah." Maven says shifting over. I shift towards the window to." The girl sits down, her black hair falling over her shoulders in waves. She has an athletic build, with piercing dark green eyes. The boy has blonde hair, his grey eyes looking a bit nervous. I decide to ease the tension. "Hi! I'm Ivory."

"Serena." The girl offers. She looks a bit annoyed, but the look soon disappeared. "Sorry. I get a bit moody when distracted. I'm Serena, nice to meet you."

"I'm Andrew." The blonde kid says, with a light and airy tone.

" And I'm Maven." Maven finishes. "Are we all first years?" He asks. We all nod.

"What house do you think you'll get?" Andrew asks.

"House?" I ask.

"Are you guys muggleborns?" Maven asks us, Andrew looks equally surprised.

"Yeah." Serena replies

"I don't know. My father is a muggle but we think my mother was magic and just never told us." I reply, playing with the locket between my fingers

"Interesting." Andrew remarks. "I'm a half-blood, but we lived the magic way."

"And I'm a pureblood. Not the mean type." Maven finishes

"Cool, but what are the houses?"

"There are 4 of them, Gryffindor for the brave, Ravenclaw for the wise, Slytherin for the sly, and Hufflepuff for the kind." Maven explains "I personally think that I'm gonna get Ravenclaw."

"Probably Gryffindor for me." Andrew mentions

"Slytherin probably." Serena adds on after a moment of thought.

"I'm not sure, but Hufflepuff sounds like me." I start the next layer of my latch hook with the others looking at it in interest. As I finish another layer of cloud Serena questions me

"What's that?"

"Latch hooking. You create patterns with the pieces of yarn." I reply, finishing the next layer. Its pretty big, but I got really fast at it. I can do a small one in a day as long as there are no activities planned, and a large one takes me about two and a bit days. This is in the large category. I started it two days ago, and I have another 20 or so rows to go. Reading the guide I made myself I see that its a white next.

I make the guides and designs myself, working in pixel art to make a picture. Then I go out and buy the wool I need. I used to buy from a muggle store but I found one in Diagon alley with so many more colors.  Sometimes I make scenes, other times I just make a cool rainbow patterns, like one time I did a rainbow ombre.

"Cool." Andrew remarks as I finish it off.

I hold up my finished work to admire it and the other 3 are fighting to get a view of it.

"Guys, I'm sure you have a cool thing that you can do well." I say, not liking all the attention

"well, I guess I'm really good at sword fighting. My father had an old family heirloom that I would play with." Andrew says, kinda laughing at his seemingly useless skill. "Not good for much though."

"If someone takes your wand you'll be able to fight back." Maven says, something I didn't think of before.

Andrew laughs at that. "Maven, what are you good at?" He asks, wonder seeping into his voice.

"I'm fairly good at wizards chess." He says after a bit of thought  "If I do say so myself."

Serena smiles. "I can dance." She says quietly. We all smile at one another.

"Hey guys, if there is house prejudice against one another can we stay friends?" I ask, putting out my pinkies.

Serena smile and locks our pinkies together. "For sure."

We look expectantly at the other two who look back at us confused. "Lock your pinkies together like we did." I explain. "It's called a pinkie promise." They do and me and Serena shake on it then we break apart.

"Man muggles are weird." I hear Maven mumble.

With a laugh I look out the window, waiting for Hogwarts.
