Chapter 14 - Pre-fight Blues

Chapter 14 – Pre Fight Blues

Detention was boring because Garth was just sitting in front of the classroom while the other students here with me kept talking about stuff that doesn't really concern me. I heard the other group of students on the left side talk about the upcoming Academy Gala event which usually happens after this week which is finals week. It was an annual formal event that second years and third years had to go through in the process of becoming Tuteurs. The famous saying in the academy always went like this: "A soldier must not only be fierce in battle but also be eloquent and elegant when the time demands it to be so." I think it's a load of crap to be honest because guys are supposed to wear the Academy Formal Uniform, while the girls must wear elegant dresses. The worse part of it was, there was a partner system in the class so you have no choice but to be partnered with the opposite sex.

Attendance was mandatory so I could forget about bailing out. I looked at the clock and it said 5:30 in the afternoon. I still have thirty minutes remaining of this detention nonsense and I can't help reminisce about the second conversation I had with Elle earlier on the roof today.

"I'll always be here for you…" –Elle

"Me too… I'll always be here for you…"

I suddenly realized that, I do not only trust her now, but I actually care for her as well. But how could I? I just met her days ago. For some reason, she has brought back my capability to trust people but not entirely though for I still needed to keep my guard up. Then I saw a familiar guy with blonde hair and the signature bandana on his forehead. It was Resshin. He saw me immediately and went near me. I didn't want any trouble this time.

"So when's the rematch?" he asked me smugly, but I didn't reply.

"Hey I'm talking to you here!" Resshin had shouted at me as he attempted to grab me by the collar.

"I don't want any trouble…" I replied to him coldly as I stopped his hand from grabbing me. He attempted to push me down, but I evaded it and now we were stirring a bit of a scene in detention.

"Resshin, Seiryu! Stop this nonsense." Garth had said to the both of us as we both sat down in our respective seats. Thirty minutes more and I'll be out of this hell hole, but I suddenly remembered that I still have business after this detention. Melfice was waiting for me in the back of the Academy fight grounds.

"Don't give in, control it."

Elle's words had been stuck in my head like a knife on an anvil. This was the first time I promised something to someone. She sure was special to me. I wonder what she's doing now. Wow, why do I always think about her? Detention was taking far too long to finish and it seems to be really unproductive because we're just sitting here in this dinky classroom on the fourth floor of the academy. I really needed to get out of here, so I just set my head down on the table to sleep in order to speed up time.

General POV

Seiryu had taken a nap by laying his head on his table in detention. Hoping that it would speed up time, while the others still talked about other things; there were a decent number of students present in the detention session, most of them are trouble makers with light offenses. Detention was supposed to teach them how to be model citizens and soldiers of the Academy. It was to make them think that their wrongs do not make them as such.

Immediately thirty minutes had already passed as Professor Garth already stood up from his seat. He pushed a button under the table which seemed to look like an alarm and the students near the door had already left the classroom. Seiryu wasn't spared by the alarm either for it had woken him up from his nap.

"Finally." He thought to himself.

Seiryu had gotten up from his seat, took his sheathed katana and walked out the door, but before he could even start to leave, he heard someone shout at him.

"Hey you!"

It was Resshin, the guy that he had trouble earlier inside the detention room. Well he had trouble with him in their first fight. Resshin sees Seiryu as his ultimate rival and he wanted to have his rematch with him immediately. Seiryu just looked behind him and saw Resshin heading his way.

"Look, I told you I don't want trouble." He said to Resshin.

Resshin had stopped in his tracks and he saw Seiryu with a different look on his face. He became more focused and fierce which actually led him to back away from the long haired man a little bit.

"He seems focused." He thought

"I'll be looking forward to that rematch some other time kid." Resshin had said as he turned around and walked away.

It was already close to night time as Seiryu made his way to the Academy fields which was in the back area. He walked the hallways with his sheathed katana in his left hand and he was focused while he made his way.

"Melfice is no pushover, he had strong spirit energy in him. I felt it right away when he attempted to attack me from behind. A strong swordsman from Briggs, that he was.." Seiryu thought to himself as he had reached the gate entrance of Treyah Battle Academy.

The fields were just on the western part of the Academy Gate and Seiryu had walked towards that area. It was night time but the light of the Academy kept it bright in its vicinity. As he was making his way towards the fields, he had seen someone standing in the middle of the plain of grass that had surrounded them. He held a sword which had a handle of a rifle, and the blade was huge and broad. It seemed that it can be folded and be reverted back to a gun. It was the blue-haired student that he had met and almost fought earlier, Melfice."

"Nice of you to make it." Melfice had said to him as he held his weapon, the Hybrid. Seiryu did not reply to him.

"Still the silent type I see. But don't worry, I'll make you talk eventually." He had said to me.

"Why are you doing this?" Seiryu had asked him.

"I've heard a great deal about you when I first transferred here in this Academy. The one who defeated four elite senior students from block A, and the only person who scored a stalemate in a fight between senior block A's prefect; you seemed strong Seiryu and it looks like Lucian was right so I wanted to test your strength for myself." He replied to me.

"Lucian, Block B's prefect? What's he got to do with this?" Seiryu thought to himself.

"Draw your sword." Melfice commanded him.

"I don't take orders from you." Seiryu replied to him

"Well, I guess I'll just have to do this the hard way!" Melfice said as he rushed at Seiryu in order to attack.

"Here I come!" he shouted as he swung his Hybrid sword towards Seiryu, but immediately he parried in order not to be hit with the blade with his sheathed sword. Melfice had moved away from Seiryu now and said:

"This is gonna be good, I can tell."

Seiryu finally drew his sword from his sheath as he held it slightly above him with only his right hand and he used his left hand with the sheath to hold on to the end of the blade. He put his weight on his right foot while keeping his left foot steady and fluid. It was the stance for his signature move, Seirei Bunshu.

"Alright, have it your way." Seiryu said as he had the look of a killer in his eyes.
