Infirmary

*Isla's P.O.V*

I carefully made my way back to the packhouse, my clothes dripping wet. I had wrung out my clothes as much as I could but I was still soaked. The warm sunshine that trickled through the trees and dried me off slightly. My memory flashed to the deer that we had seen appear at the edge of the lake that Misty had warned me about.

I had thought that it was just a regular deer however Misty had warned me of beings called Shapeshifters. People who could shift into the forms of either animals or humans. It all depended on which way the Shapeshifter had been schooled early in life. Being able to turn into the forms of all different humans and animals was a rare skill, a skill that only 5 of the 176,000 Shapeshifters could do.

I felt eyes burning into me as I entered the clearing of the packhouse, shaking my head to loosen some of the water from my hair. I knew that I would have to wash my hair soon to get all the tangles that would now be in my hair out. My hair was easily tangled up so I knew I would probably be working the tangles out for a while now.

I watched as the door to the packhouse opened and there was a lady standing there wearing a lab coat. Aphid seemed to sense my worry and looked through to see what I was looking at. 'Is just a pack doctor, we will be fine,' she assured me. I gave her my thanks as she settled down in the back of my mind, offering to be there for just moral support. Nira was curled up asleep in the back of my mind, completely oblivious to the world around us.

"Isla Taylor?" the doctor lady asked. I nodded my head as I walked up the steps to the packhouse. "I am Doctor Victoria Steele, your mates wanted you to get a formal checkup to make sure you are doing well. I was wondering if now was an agreeable time for that to happen?" she questioned.

"Now suits me just fine," I informed her, curious as to why my mates thought I needed a checkup. I padded into the packhouse, shivering as the cold air reacted to my soaking wet skin. I tried to rub my arms to warm myself up only to end up spreading more water on my skin.

"Would you like to go change?" Dr. Steele questioned. I nodded my head with a small blush on my cheeks. "How did you get soaking wet?" she asked me, making me tilt my head. I seemed to be doing that a lot, the whole tilting head thing.

"I kind of wandered out of the pack's land and found a lake. I decided to go for a swim," I said simply. Misty had warned me not to mention anything that happened at the lake. Werewolves apparently did not get along with either mermaids or shapeshifters that much. Werewolves were very territorial even beyond their pack boundaries and would see both of them as encroaching onto their territory.

I made my way up to Alana and Kelsei's room, shutting the door behind me. Dr. Steele had been following me but had stopped at the end of the hallway. I stripped down once I had locked the door behind me, peeling the sopping wet clothes off of me. I put my clothes in the laundry hamper and went to raid Alana's closet. I grabbed a flowery t-shirt of hers and her leggings.

I grabbed a sports bra of Kelsei's and put it on. Kelsei and Alana had bought me some of my own clothes such as underwear which I put on but most of my other outfits consisted of their clothes. Once I was changed, I headed out of the room to Dr. Steele. I allowed her to guide me to the packhouse infirmary since I still did not really know where to go.

Once we made it there, she asked if it would be okay to draw some blood for testing. I reluctantly allowed her to draw some blood. I was not scared of needles, I was scared of the pain that they could cause. I closed my eyes as the needle entered my skin, not wanting to see the blood drawn from my vein. She took it straight to the lab for testing

After that I moved to one of the infirmary beds and I had to take my shirt off. Dr. Steele seemed concerned and felt my stomach. Her hands were so cold, they pressed against my ribs slightly and her concern seemed to grow.

"You are so thin, how often do you eat?" Dr. Steele questioned. I bit my bottom lip as I tried to think about how often I ate. I mean my appetite had always been small so I usually ate a meal and a snack but that was normal. That's all I needed to eat to be full.

"A meal and maybe a snack. It always fills me up so quickly so I do not eat much," I shrugged with a frown on my lips. That seemed to concern Dr. Steele and she started doing a more thorough examination. She left me to go check on the blood test and then came back with my records. I had slipped my shirt back on after she left and then we went over my medical records.

Once we went over those, Dr. Steele said something about irregularities in the records before we lapsed into silence. Blood tests took a while to happen apparently. She had given me a sheet of paper and a marker to draw with so I was happy. I sketched Aphid and Nira together, running through a field.

Dr. Steele left at some point and I only noticed when she came back, looking concerned. "Isla, I believe I know the reason that you only eat so little," she said as she sat down on the stool at the end of the infirmary bed. "You have silver and wolfsbane in your system, it most likely has been mixed into your food and ended up in your bloodstream. It's a miracle that you still have a wolf, this shows years of damage," she said, my heart hammering in my chest as I frowned.
