Sousuke Yamazaki x Reader - English Class

Students flooded the hallways as Sousuke pushed his way to his English class. It was the first day and he was determined this year to not be late to any of his classes, even though he knew that either way, mid way through the week he probably would fail his attempt at an on time attendance. Though, today was not that day. He managed to shoulder his way through the remainder of the students and into the door of his english classroom. There didn't appear to be too many people in the rom, just a group of girls loitering by the window, a few of his friends scattered about, and a girl sitting alone by the window. He placed his stuff down on a desk and went to talk to Rin and Nitori before class started.

Once the bell rang, the teacher made her way into the class, exactly on time. She had a no nonsense look about her as she stared at each of the students in turn. Sousuke glared back at her once she got to him. Her eyes rested on the girl sitting by the window, who was looking preoccupied with whatever she was readeing. Apparently, she had no idea that her new teacher was shooting daggers at her. She quietly cleared her throat, then once agin louder. Still, the girl didn't look up.

'It's like she's in her own world' Sousuke thought. Luckily for her though, another girl sitting behind her poked her shoulder and caused her to look up. After receiving the whole classes attention, the teacher finally introduced herself.

"My name is Ms. Steiner. I expect great things from you, so you had better pay attention and stay on task" Her voice was like a military bark, as was her stance.

'Great, one of THOSE teachers' Sousuke thought and rolled his eyes. 'This is going to be a great class.'

As he had thought, Ms. Steiner set them straight to work on a passage comprehension, and a pop quiz. In the last 10 minutes though, just when Sousuke thought it couldn't get any worse, she cleared her throat, indicating that she wanted to speak.

"I'm assigning you an essay due next Monday on how alliteration effected Shakespeare's verse" Sousuke almost audibly groaned, but chose to just roll his eyes instead.

"However," she continued "I've noticed that you've worked extremely well this entire class, so I'll let this assignment be done in pairs." Immediately Rin and Sousuke exchanged a look from across the classroom. "BUT I'm choosing the partners" She finished, before heading over to her computer. Sousuke slumped in his chair. What was the point of a group assignment if you didn't know the person you were working with. After all, it was only the first day, and the only people he knew in the class were Rin and Nitori.

The class remained completely silent as Ms. Steiner brought the name generator up onto the screen in the front of the classroom, each person praying that they'd get lucky with their partners. One by one, a name appeared on the screen, followed by another student, mostly people he didn't know. Slowly, people were paired up. About half of the class had partners when Sousuke's name appeared on the board. He closed his eyes and wished that when he opened them, Rin's name would be right underneath his. But when he did, all he saw was an unfamiliar name.

'Who the hell is (Y/N)?' he thought as he searched the classroom. No one showed any sign of recognition for their own name. After she had finished, Ms. Steiner told them all to meet their partners and start planning their assignment. Students stood up and called each other's names. Sousuke walked about, asking girls if their names were (Y/N), all of them replying no. One girl pointed him in the direction of the window, where the girl from the beginning of class was still seated, absorbed in whatever she was doing.

'Great, I'm stuck with the girl who hasn't got a clue' he thought 'Though I guess she is kinda hot'. He approached her, and stood just beside her desk, waiting for her to notice his presence. Still she continued to read. He looked over her book when she suddenly, without warning, switched back into focus and jerked her head up, looking up at him. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she looked from him to the other people collaborating around the room.

"What's going on?" she said. She sounded genuinely confused as she starred up at him with her (E/C) eyes. Sousuke thought he felt something, but brushed it off. Pulling up a chair, he began to explain the assignment to her.

"How much of the class were you actually paying attention for?" he asked once he had finished. He knew he sounded critical, but it was a reasonable enough question. At that though, her cheeks turned slightly pink as she put her hand up to fiddle with her hair

"Not much..... I kinda get side tracked a lot. I guess I'm a little spacey..." she laughed a little nervously and trailed off, turning her head away. Normally, Sousuke would have been pissed because that would have meant that he would have to do the majority of the work. But he couldn't be mad at her. Something was preventing him from doing so.

'Maybe it's because she's so hot?' he thought. He hadn't even realized he was staring at her before she quietly asked him to stop. He could see that her cheeks were flushed, just by his attention. He smirked slightly and decided maybe the assignment wouldn't be too bad.
