Chapter 9

Tom, August and I decided we were going to spend the day at the park, so I stood in the kitchen making sandwiches for lunch. "Remember, mommy, no cheese for daddy's sandwich," August reminds me. I finish making the sandwiches and places them in the cooler, "I know, sweetie. Now, please go get changed. Daddy is coming to pick us up soon and don't forget." He runs off to get changed whilst I finished getting some snacks ready. I place the container of cut cucumbers in the cooler as well when I hear a knock on the door. I wipe my hands on a tea towel and smoothed down my dress before I go to open the door. "Hey, love. I got the crisps that August loves. Tessa is in the car, so I am going back in the car. I will wait for you in there," he says as he gives me a quick kiss and hands me the crisps. I nod my hand and Tom goes back to his car; I place the crisps in the cooler and zip it up. I head over to August's room to get him, "Auggie, it's time to go." He comes out of his room wearing the Spider-Man t-shirt Tom got him and cargo shorts. I got the cooler and head off to Tom's car with August.

We make it over to the park and find a nice place in the shade to sit. "August, put on some sunblock before you go play," Tom demands, he unclips Tessa's leash and goes to help August put it on. I hear August mumble okay on his breath and goes over to Tom in order to out sunblock. Tessa goes over to August and runs around his short chubby legs. He erupts with laughter because Tessa's fur tickles him. Once Tom was finished, August runs off to play with Tessa on the playground. "Be careful," I call out after them as I settle on to the blanket. Tom sits beside me and wraps his arms around my shoulder, "Have I ever told you how much I love you both?" "Yes, babe, every day since we became a couple. I hope you know that we love you and a grateful for everything you have done for us," I give him a kiss and cuddle closer to him.

"August, time for lunch," I cry out to him. He comes running over and sits on Tom's lap. "Remembered no cheese, right love?" Tom questions whilst taking out the sandwich from the Ziploc bag. "Yes, and August even made sure that I remembered. Even without you guys reminding I would still remember because you are the only person I know you does not like cheese," I tease, I bite into my own sandwich and realizes I gave Tom the wrong one. I quickly grab his sandwich and give him the right one. "Sorry wrong sandwich," I blush in embarrassment after being so cocky. Tom laughs and shakes his head. While we eat Tom and I gave August some additions and multiplication to do. August finishes his sandwich and runs off to go play some more with Tessa. "He is so smart, it's unbelievable. I mean I barely passed my A-levels and here he is doing square roots at two years old," Tom tells me in amazement. "I know. It gives hope that he will go on to do better things then I will. He will have a better future," I confide in Tom. I finish my sandwich and cuddles into Tom's shoulder. "Hey, don't worry. You are a great mother that can provide for herself and her son. Being a writer is a great job that you love and can provide for you guys. Just because you can't buy him everything he wants doesn't mean you are a horrible mother," Tom stops ranting to give my temple some kisses then continues. "You love him, always want to keep him safe, and you give him a safe environment to grow up. You don't want to send him to a good school to exploit his abilities, but because you want him to keep learning and to feel challenged. So stop beating yourself up because you really are a great mother."

We watch August play for a bit after lunch until he comes running towards us asking us to play tag with him. Tom and I get up and start running away from August. He starts giggling as he chases after us with Tessa right behind him. Ever since Tessa met August whenever they are together, they stay attached by the hip. They both loved each other and she was quite protective of him. "Tag, you're it!" August yells, he gently taps me and runs off. I laugh and run after Tom, "I am going to get you!" "No, you can't because I am Spider-Man," Tom shouts back. "We will see about that!" I scream back. I catch up with Tom and tackle him to the ground. "I told you I could catch you," I whisper as I remain lying on top of him. Tom laughs and looks up at me; he moves some of my hair out of my face for me. "Yes, you did and I can see that you are very proud of yourself." I smile and give him a kiss. "Tag, you're a loser," I mumble, my lips were still connected to his and they stay like that for a few more seconds. "Ewww," we hear from behind us. We turn our heads toward August to see that he was covering his eyes with his hands and he looked grossed out. "It's a natural thing for two grown-ups to do when they are in love, baby," I laugh at his reaction. I could not have been happier at this moment. I had an amazing son who is extremely smart, the book I am writing could not get any better, and on top of all that I have a supportive boyfriend who loves us both very much. I was in the clouds with how happy I was and I thought nothing good ruin this day and moment. I am about to get off Tom when a deep voice says something behind me, "(Y/N)?"
