Chapter Twenty-Eight:

Ruka (1)

"Walking stinks!"

I sighed, "Told ya."

"How do people go anywhere without a flying bison?"

"Well I don't know Aang. Why don't you ask Sokka's instincts? They seem to know everything." Katara mocked.

Sokka rolled his eyes, "Haha. Very funny."

"I'm tired of carrying this pack." Aang whined.

Katara raised her brows with a smile, "You know who you should ask to carry it for awhile? Sokka's instincts!"

Aang grinned, "That's a great idea! Hey, Sokka's instincts, would you mind-?"

"Okay, okay. I get it. Look guys, I'm tired too. But the important thing is that we're safe from the... Fire... Nation."

As we walked passed some bushes, on the other side, there was a huge group of Fire Nation soldiers.

"Run!"

We all dropped our packs and tried to go back the way we came, but one of the soldiers threw out a flame that made the bushes behind us go up in flames.

"We're cut off!" Sokka said. I pulled on the end of his shirt, "Your arms on fire you idiot!"

Sokka looked over to it and yelped. Katara bended some water out from her water skin and put out the flame from his shirt. She quickly put back the water in the skin afterwards.

Sokka pulled Katara and I behind him and Aang. Her, Aang, I got into our fighting stances while Sokka stood up straighter to make himself look more tough. "If you let us pass, we promise not hurt you!"

"What are you doing?" Katara whispered to him. "Yeah bone head." I added.

"Bluffing." Sokka said lowly.

"You promise not to hurt us?" A soldier said. Suddenly, he fell face first to the floor unconsciously.

"Nice work Sokka!" Aang smiled. "How'd you do that?"

"Uh," Sokka shrugged, "Instincts?"

Katara pulled on the sleeve of my shirt and pointed up to a tree, "Look!"

We all turned our heads and a young man around my age was up on the branch of the tree Katara was pointing at. He whipped out two hook swords and used those to swiftly jump down, knocking two of the soldiers out when landing.

With the hook swords, he grabbed one foot from each of another duo of soldiers and flipped them over. When he landed with no struggle, he smirked, "Down you go."

I looked at him with my hand on my chin, "Impressive."

One of the soldiers looked up and widened his eyes, "They're in the trees!"

"What...?" I followed where he was looking and a small boy jumped on the soldier's shoulders. Another young man shot arrows down from the branch he was sitting on. He hung upside down and shot two more arrows at the soldier's swords, knocking them out of their hands.

"Pretty neat." I smiled.

"Ruka, behind you!"

I turned around and a soldier was behind me and was just about to slice me in half with his sword, but before he had the chance, I slid under him and from behind him, I took some water out from my water skin and shot it up to his head, freezing it at the right moment. I kicked his behind so that he landed face first.

Another soldier was coming at me with a sphere, but before I can react, it was knocked out of his hands. When I looked down at his sword, I saw an arrow next to it on the floor.

Taking my chance, I grabbed the soldier by his neck and brought his body down. With my knee, I kneed him in the gut and he grunted in pain. I twirled him around and with the fabric on the sides of his helmet, I tied them from the back of his head and let the back of the helmet cover the front of his face. I kicked him in the behind like I did with his mate and had him fall face front.

I turned around and smiled up at the bow and arrow guy, saluting to him as well. He jumped down the from the branch and walked over to his friends. I realized the soldier's were gone and when I turned my head, my siblings and Aang were talking to hook guy.

"My name is Jet. And these are my freedom fighters."

He introduced them one by one. I looked over to the bow and arrow guy who is named Longshot. There was also Sneers, Pipsqueak, which by the way, isn't at all a pipsqueak, The Duke, and Smellerbee.

Interesting names. I like these people.

"Let's see what we got Freedom Fighters!" Jet told his fighters..?

I walked over to Longshot who was sitting on a log. "Thanks for the help back there."

He looked to me and simply nodded.

Next to him, I saw his bow and arrow and pointed to it. "You're really skilled. Have you been arching for a long time?"

Longshot simply shrugged then looked down to the grass. I mouthed 'okay then' to myself before getting up from the log. I walked over to Sokka who was standing alone.

I saw he was staring in a certain direction and when I followed, I raised my brow at the sight. Katara was talking to Jet under a tree. Her hands were behind her back and Jet was leaned back on the tree.

I crossed my arms, "Hm. An odd couple don't you think?"

Sokka didn't reply and I knew he was eavesdropping on their conversation. I joined in.

"I should be thanking you. We were waiting to ambush those soldiers all morning. We just needed the right distraction. And then you guys stumbled in." Jet said, taking the stick in his mouth out for a brief second then placed it back in.

"We were relying on instincts." Katara replied grumpily.

"You'll get yourself killed doing that."

Sokka frowned and walked away. I looked to him sympathetically before looking over to Jet and Katara. I made made my way over to the duo.

"Hey listen bone head." I said to Jet with my hands on my hips. Jet smirked, "You must be Ruka. Katara and Sokka's sister."

"No need for introductions. I can assure you that my brother's killer instincts are well... killer."

Jet nodded, "I'm sure."

Before I could reply, Jet's attention was averted away from me.

"Hey Jet, these barrels are filled with blasting jelly." The Duke informed him. Jet smiled, "that's a great score."

"And these boxes are filled with jelly candy!" Pipsqueak grinned while holding up a box. Jet kept the same expression, "Also good. Let's not get those mixed up."

"We'll take this stuff back to the hideout."

Aang looked behind his shoulder to Jet, "You guys have a hideout?"

"You wanna see it?" Jet asked.

"Yes (no) we wanna see it." Katara and I said at the same time. (Ruka)
