32- Nyssa

Nyssa eyes snapped back into reality. She stumbled backwards and let out a scream.

"Nyssa!" Percy yelled as he ran to her side.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," Nysaa said, trying to calm her own breathing.

"What happened?" Percy asked. "You just blacked out and I couldn't snap you awake no matter what I did."

"I just had a dream," Nyssa said blinking her eyes rapidly, still trying to awake herself from the occurrence. "I meet Callisto, and she gave me-"

Nyssa reached deep into the front pocket of her shorts and pulled out the amethyst.

"Nevermind," Nyssa finished, shutting down the conversation. She slipped the gem into her pocket and stood up.

"Did you do anything when I when I blacked out?"

"Yeah," Percy held up a Ziplock baggie full of rusty metal. "I manned up and collected some armor. You know what was strange? When I touched the metal, I didn't black out. Maybe it's a sibling connection?"

Nyssa nodded. "Could be."

Suddenly, an ear-piecing scream tore through the room like a knife and butter.

Percy turned to me, his eyes wide. "Malcolm."

"Go now!" Nyssa yelled. "We need to find him!"

Percy shot through the water, like a torpedo, down the hallway. Nyssa followed him. She grabbed her back full of magical items and pulled out her watch.

Just as it transformed into an axe, Nyssa glanced behind her and saw Beckendorf for the last time. Then, she plunged down the corridor.

"Malcolm!" Percy yelled as he swam quickly down the hallway and up the stairs.

The scream got louder and louder as we ascended to the top deck.

"Malcolm!" Nyssa began to shout.

The screams were the loudest when Percy and Nyssa reached a door that lead to the top deck.

Even though the window was tinted green and covered in moss, Nyssa could still see through it.

Nyssa gasped at the site. Hundreds of Telekhines were chasing Malcolm.

Percy sighed. "I remember these guys, not fun."

Nyssa let out a bit of nervous laughter until she saw the Telekhines were gaining on Malcolm.

It was good Percy's powers gave Malcolm speed swimming. Without it, the Telekhines would of already killed him, Nyssa thought.

To Nyssa, the Telekhines were a strange sight. They had faces like doberman pinschers and their bodies were sleek and black like a seals.

To propel themselves in the water, they had stubby legs that are half flipper and half foot. They had human like hands with sharp claw-fingernails.

"Come on," Percy said griping a bronze sword. Where did that come from? "We need to save Malcolm."

Nyssa gripped her weapon. "Okay, let's do this."

Nyssa kicked the algae covered door down and sprinted onto the deck.

Some Telekhines eyed Percy and Nyssa and broke away from Malcolm.

Percy swung riptide, destroying the monsters in one hit. Nyssa ducked and cut with her battle axe.

The Telekhines were quickly defeated, but more left Malcolm and charged at Nyssa and Percy.

"Create a distraction!" Nyssa yelled. "Get all the monsters away from Malcolm!"

Percy nodded and swam away, leaving Nyssa with the telekhines.

The Telekhines barked at her and bared their teeth and showed their claws. But, they were no match for Nyssa.

She swung her axe with ease, and no Telekhines even touched her.

Nyssa saw out of the corner of her eye Malcolm still swimming away, and Percy trying to create a distraction.

Nyssa ducked and struck as she challenged one telekhine, much taller and stronger than the others.

Her axe swung around, but the monster deflected it. He summoned his strength to punch her, but Nyssa dropped her head, swung around and nailed the creature right in the back.

The monster crashed to the ground, the axe still stuck in his back. Nyssa pulled it out and smiled at the blade before the monster disappeared in a puff of yellow smoke.

No matter how much time Nyssa took celebrating, more monsters began to come up from the shipwreck. Some looked even stronger than the one she just fought.

Nyssa quickly glanced around to find a place to hide. She found a bench near the starboard railing and crouched behind it.

Surprisingly, no monsters noticed Nyssa, instead, they all were attracted to Malcolm and Percy.

Malcolm and Percy fought side by side against the telekhines. Beaded with sweat and exhausted, Nyssa was happy she could rest and observe for a second.

But then, everything went wrong.

Nyssa felt a tightness in her throat. She gagged and coughed, there must be something in her throat, but nothing came out. Nyssa was suffocating, but why?

Then it hit her.

She quickly swam from her hiding spot and yelled as loud as she could without dying. "The magic- is wearing- out!"

Percy and Malcolm gazed at her for a second before Malcolm started choking.

Nyssa held her throat, she couldn't breath. She was wheezing, coughing and sputtering.

Only one thing was going through her brain again. Get to the surface.

Nyssa pumped her arms and feet as quick as she could, but she lost her speed, and Malcolm did too.

Malcolm was gripping for dear life on Percy's shirt as he shot through the water. The Telekhines were gaining on them.

"Percy!" Nyssa yelled. She couldn't be left down here to die. She just hoped he had enough time to get to her.

"Hold on!" Percy yelled, but Nyssa's vision and sight went all fuzzy.

Percy yanked Nyssa's shirt collar and pulled her with him. The speed was faster than Nyssa had ever experienced before.

Nyssa gasped for breath and wheezed in and out. She looked up at Percy, his face, or at least the parts that weren't black splotches, was determined to get them out alive.

Nyssa looked down, fear struck her as she saw the telekhines gaining on them.

They reached out to grab her, only missing by an inch or two. There dog faces were wild and blood-thirsty, like nearly all monsters.

Their claws dripped with blood.

Nyssa felt sick. She was queasy and losing her eyesight. She couldn't speak. At this point, Nyssa was holding her breath. Her eyesight was nearly gone.

Nyssa looked up again and saw Percy about 20 feet from the surface.

We are about to be free, Nyssa thought. Of course she was wrong.

Suddenly, An loud, bloody scream echoed through the water. Nyssa looked down, just in time to see Malcolm caught in the grasp of the telekhines, who pulled him deeper in the water.

Nyssa and Percy broke to the surface, Nysaa coughing and sputtering.

"They-they took...Malcolm," Nyssa said in between coughs.

"Oh..." Percy said looking down at the water sadly. Nyssa knew what he was feeling, if only he swam just a little faster.

Then, Nyssa could see a determined look on his face. "I need to go back down there," Percy said.

Before he could duck under the waves, Nyssa grabbed his arm.

"You can't go down there!" Nyssa yelled. "Malcolm is far dead now, you might get killed too!"

"But what happens when we get back to camp?" Percy said looking straight into Nyssa's eyes.

Nyssa racked her brain for something optimistic, but nothing came. It was all her fault, if just she and Percy went on the quest, then maybe a death could have been avoided.

"I don't know, but we need to get back there." Nyssa glanced at the setting sun. It's soft orange glow reflected off of them, turning her hair a fiery red.

"Okay fine."

***

By the time Percy and Nyssa got back to camp, the sun already set. The moon casted an eerie glow on Thalia's tree.

Up ahead near the entrance of the camp, Nyssa saw two figures standing under the arch.

"Looks like we've got trouble," Percy mumbled.

As the demigods walked closer, Nyssa realized it was Chiron and Dionysus.

"You too," Dionysus said pointing a dangerous finger. "Come with me. We have some things to discuss."
