Chapter Five

(Random Lynch picture. Don't ask. Rocky and Ellington shaved by the way. :( )

Ross' POV:

"C-Courtney?" I stutter out as the whole group behind me goes completely silent.

Emmalee is pulled away from my arm, that was around on her back. Riker tugs Emmalee back next to me, as Courtney approaches us closer. I feel my heart start to race. I had no idea that Courtney was going to come and see me in New York. Hell, if I did I wouldn't be standing here nearly shaking in my jeans because I am so scarred of what Courtney is going to say or do to Emmalee.

"Ross, I am going to ask you again. Who in the hell is that girl and why is she wearing my jacket?" Courtney hisses at me.

I look over at Emmalee, who still had my jacket wrapped around her small little body. I then look over at Courtney, who is impatciently tapping her foot, as if she wanted me to hurry up with my answer. I once again look at Emmalee. I can tell that Emmalee is scared and nervous, which makes me not want to say anything. But then again, I am sorta in a realtionship with her. Managment shouldn't force me to be with a girl I don't even like. The one girl I like is Emmalee and I want to be with her, but for now I am stuck with Courtney.

"Ross, who in the hell is that girl?!" Courtney snaps.

At this point, I am still at a loss for words. After a few seconds, Emmalee comes over to me, walking right into the battle zone that I have created. Emmalee stands next to me, her eyes on Courtney.

"Who are you?" Courtney hisses.

"Drop the prissy additude. I know it's fake. My name is Emmalee and I am Will's niece." Courtney rolls her eyes. "Just because you are fake dating Ross, doesn't mean you're better than anyone else."

The whole entire group goes silent. Rydel bites her lip to hold a laugh in from escaping her lips. The girls look at Courtney, before they walk away.

"Girls!" Courtney calls after them.

"Opps, did I say that out loud?" Emmalee says with an evil smirk on her lips.

"Listen here, those are my friends. This is my boyfriend, whether it be fake or real. Do you understand me?" Courtney hisses out, poking her finger into Emmalee's chest.

"What I understand is that Ross is your fake boyfriend. He may have to act like he enjoys your company in public, but he most definitely doesn't on his private time. Now if you'll excuse me, we have places to be. You can be part of that if you'd like to keep your attitude toned down." I was shocked by Emmalee's response, but I was snickering at the look on Courtney's face. Before she can respond, Emmalee links her arm though mine and we continue walking.

"No one ever tells Courtney off for her attitude. Thanks. Everyone will probably congratulate you on doing that." I whisper into her ear. She giggles quietly, before glancing at me.

"She needs to learn her place. She's the same as everyone else here. We're all equals, whether she believes it or not. We're all human, no matter who has more money, or who is prettier, or who has more fame." And as she said those words, I found myself falling harder for her because of how down to earth she was.

Before I realize where Emmalee is taking me, we are both back out in the cold. The jacekt that was on her body when we walked into the restaurant, was in her arms. I could tell that she is mad, because the expression on her face was completely hate filled. After about us walking in silence for about 30 seconds, I stop her. Emmalee looks at me, but then converts her eyes elsewhere.

"Emmalee, look at me." I state.

"Ross, I can't."

"Emmalee, look at me." I repeat.

"Ross, I really can't."

"Emmalee, will you please look at me?"

"Ross, I am not going to look at you."

Snowflakes start to fall again. Emmalee shivers, so I pull her body close to mine. She tries to back up, but I don't let her.

"Emmalee, will you please just look at me?"

"Ross! I'm not going to look at you! I basically made a fool out of myself, telling Courtney off!" She snaps.

"Emmalee-"

"Ross, for the last time, I'm not going to look at you." She says cutting me off.

"Emmalee, kiss me."

Emmalee freezes and her eyes find mine. The falling snowflakes fall into her hair, making her look more beautiful. I push some of the hair that had fallen in front of her face, back behind her ear.

"Emmalee, kiss me." I repeat.

She looks around, before she leans in. After several moments, her lips are on mine. I smile softly, as I kiss her a bit harder, my arms on her hips. After what feels like an hour, her lips pull away from mine.

"Wow. . . " Emmalee whispers.

"Yeah, wow is right."

We stand in silence, before she takes my hand into hers. I smile at her, but it wasn't my confident smile. It was my shy smile. I only do that smile when I want to be shy, or I'm nervous about something.

"I'm getting hungry," Emmalee states.

"Do you wanna head back? Or go somewhere else?" I ask her.

"Can we go somewhere else? I honestly don't want to go back and get ridiculed for telling Courtney off."

"Will is pretty tough on you, huh?" I ask as I start to lead her down the street.

"Yeah," Emmalee replies.

"Em?"

"Hmm?"

"Rydel knew your mom. I never got the chance to meet her. If you can, will you tell me what she's like?"

Emmalee's convert down to her shoes. Our feet crunch in the snow as we walk. I knew asking about her mom would make our alone time, very weird.

"My mom was the best. She loved everything. She loved you guys and she was carefree. She didn't care about the fact that she was dying. It never crossed her mind. She was always so positive. It amazed me. I never thought she could be so strong about what she was going through, but she was. She loved going out to see your concerts, see her brother, and she didn't care if she was stared at because she was bald. She didn't care that kids would point and ask their mothers why a woman was bald. My mom was the best. She would always do anything to make me smile, no matter what. A matter of fact, I lost someone I never thought I would lose. My mom bought me meet and greet tickets, and it cheered me up. I never thought that when I finally met you guys, that it would be alone. And that I would now be living with you guys. My mom was so strong. She inspired me to be strong too. Now, she's gone. I love her so much and then one day she was ripped from me. It hurts you know?" Emmalee asks as a rhetorical question.

I look down, "Emmalee, I'm so sorry."

"Ross, you don't have to be. You couldn't have stopped it. No one could have." She sighs.

"Emmalee, who took care of your mother?"

"The hospital tied with helping beat cancer. Why?"

"Just wondering. . ." I say.

***

Emmalee excuses herself to go to the restroom. I make sure she is in the batroom before I write a check. I write a check for $2,500. I sign it and then adress it to the place that helped Emmalee's mom try and fight the disease. I fold the check and put it on top of Emmalee's phone, so she would be sure to see it. When Emmalee comes back, she raises an eyebrow.

"What is this?"

"Look at it," I say as I hand the waiter, who came back to our table, $35.60.

Emmalee picks it up, before she unfolds it. She looks at the piece of paper and then looks at me. Her eyes are welling up with tears. She stands up, the check still in her hand.

"Ross." She sniffles.

"Emmalee, don't hate me. I needed to do it. I can't watch or listen to other people dying because of cancer." I state.

She sniffles as the tears start to fall. The front door of the restaurant opens. Its the family. Emmalee looks at the check one more time.

"Ross, I don't hate you." She sniffles out.

"Lynch, what in the hell did you do to my neice?!" Will asks angrily.

"Ross," She says one last time before hugging me.

Her tears stain the front of my shirt. I hug her close to me, as I let her cry it all out. Emmalee pulls away, wiping her eyes.

"Ross, thank you so much. Thank you so, so, so much. . ." She says holding the check close to her.

I pull her into a hug, "Not a problem, Princess. Not a problem."

-------------

Excuse me while I cry. I felt myself tear up here. I can't imagine what would happen if the band actually did that for me. I mean, I would probably cry. (If you guys didn't know, I lost 4 people to cancer and I miss them dearly.)

Anyway. I have some questions for you:

1. What do you guys think of Ross giving Emmalee the check?

2. When they kissed, do you think someone saw it? Or took a picture of it?

3. Why do you think Emmalee told Ross what she did?

4. How do you like this book so far?

Also, before anything, a thank you to IWannaSeeChuSmileR5 who wrote a small part in this chapter.

Anyway. . . Here is, for those of you who have asked, the video of Laura noticing me.

I officially can't handle my life right now. I have been noticed quite a lot this year and I can't handle it.

Anyway for the next chapter:
