Chapter 17 - Ice Skating

"I hate you guys." Allen grumbled. "Now look what you have done, Sean and the twins are already acting more weird with me. Even my brother too!" he groaned, falling on the bed with his back.

"Hey! Don't blame us. It's your fault that you didn't bring clothes to change. If only you did, you wouldn't have went home wearing destroyed clothes!" Az defended.

"If you didn't suddenly drag me and teleported me towards those human traffickers, I would've prepared! You guys didn't even bother teleporting me home!" Allen exclaimed as he sat up and flailed both of his arms in anger.

"If we did that, your driver would be suspicious that you went home from school alone. Like, hello? It's unusual for the bratty Allen Coldwell to go home by himself!" Az protested.

"Seeing my horrible appearance from the other day was already suspicious enough!" Allen huffed. Before he could even say more, Alicia popped out of nowhere, completely surprising the two.

"Guys, the butler is coming this way." Alicia whispered.

Allen's eyebrows rised. "Butler? You mean Sean?" he questioned. But before he could even get an answer from the girl, the two disappeared as they heard footsteps.

Allen just sighed and waited for the door to open. To no one's surprise, Sean was the one who entered the room.

"Young master, it is time for breakfast." Sean said.

Allen stared for a while, then he gave out a slight nod and walked out from his bedroom. The boy looked behind, seeing the butler follow him. He finds it really strange. He noticed lately that Sean had always been the one who reminds or announces to him about anything. Before, it was always different servants who comes near him and remind him for breakfast or something. Allen finds it really weird. How come Sean's the one who's been around him lately? Even Kyla and the twins.

Allen hoped that they won't dig more information from him. It would be bad if they find out the truth related to his activities lately.

"Good morning, young master." says a feminine voice.

Allen snapped out from his thoughts as he looks at the maid who greeted him. He sees Kyla, looking at him with a smile while carrying a tray of cookies. The boy arched a brow, but he greeted back anyways with unsureness in his voice.

"It is a very lovely morning, isn't it?" Kyla says cheerfully.

'Since when was she this cheerful around me?' Allen thought. He decided to brush off the thought and replied to the maid.

"Not really." he grumbled. Honestly, everyday wasn't a lovely day for him, most of the time.

Kyla continues to smile sweetly, ignoring Allen's grumpiness. She also walks with Sean, starting to follow Allen as well. Now Allen really does wonder if it is a good thing for these guys to follow him around.

As Allen arrives the dining room. He casually sits with his family and eats breakfast like he normally does. He observes around, trying to see if Ronald said something to them about the other day. To the boy's relief, it seems he didn't. But that relief got washed away as he sees Ronald, eying him intently. He almost shrink at his older brother's stares.

"Allen." their father, Elliott, suddenly spoke.

Everyone turned their attention to him.

"Yes, father?" Allen questioned.

"I noticed that your grades still remain average. Why is that?" Elliott asked.

Allen looked at him and gave out a slight frown. "Uh, I don't know?" he shrugged.

Elliott eyed Allen suspiciously. "Are you stalking the poor girl again?" the man frowned.

"What? No. I already stopped doing that." Allen says honestly, continuing to slice the meat on his plate. He stopped following Bella around already, the girl's already fated for Larence, what's the point of trying? And plus, Allen found out that he didn't actually felt that way towards her. He only did because it was part of his role.

"Well, are you lazing off then?" another voice speaks. This time, it is Regine, their mother, who asked.

Allen paused for a while. Remembering how busy he was doing lately, he doesn't really know if that could be called lazing around. In the end, he didn't answer his mother like he normally does.

Because of the silence from the boy, Regine looked at her son in disappointment. "When will you learn to have some study habits? Why aren't you like your siblings? They do well in school and they're more responsible unlike you. Could you at least make an effort or try your best this once?" she scolded.

Allen awkwardly looked at his mom, but he nodded slightly, continuing to eat his breakfast. Unfortunately, Regine thought that the boy ignored her, so she took offense.

"You really are hopeless." his mother sighed, trying to maintain her anger. Elliott couldn't help but also nod in agreement. Louisse, their sister, looked at Allen with slight disappointment in her eyes.

Instead of being disappointed, Allen is quite thankful that they are acting normal around him as usual. It is a relief to know that they didn't notice anything more strange about him. Having a few people notice his weirdness was already worrying, he doesn't want any more people on board with this too.

No matter what, he must set things right and be the person who won't be a villain in the future. A person who won't turn his back against his own kind.

Without anyone's knowledge, Sean, Ronald, and Kyla were looking at Allen with a frown.

Suddenly, Allen dropped his fork. So he bent down to pick it up. Sean and Kyla looked away from him, trying to face towards another direction. Allen noticed the clenched fists from the two. His eyes widened a bit as he slowly looked at the servants. He saw the frowned expression on their faces, which caused Allen to flinch a bit.

'What's wrong with them? Why are their expressions like that?' the boy thought nervously.

After the family eat their breakfast. Allen walked on his way for a bath, but before he could do so, Ronald approached him.

"Allen." says the voice.

Allen looked at his brother and asked. "What?"

"I heard from Ryan that you guys are going to have an ice skating for class bonding purposes. It seems it's optional for students to attend, so..." Ronald trailed off.

"So?" Allen arched a brow, a bit annoyed of having someone interrupt him in the middle of doing his own business.

"So...if you don't want to go, you can choose not to." Ronald said. He looks at his brother in concern, but Allen doesn't notice it.

Allen's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Ron. Are you trying to imply that I don't want to go?" he asked.

"Well, do you?" Ronald asked.

Allen rolled his eyes and huffed. "Obviously, I don't want to. I don't even know how to skate. Honestly, I don't really have a choice but to attend. Because as far as I'm concerned, I don't want to face the wrath of my control freak teacher. There had been a lot of ruckus lately and I don't want more." he says in annoyance.

Before the older brother could say more, Allen already walked away because he was in a hurry to prepare for school.

Today is the day where the the second demon arrives in this country. The demon's name is Abigor. He is the person that Allen is really cautious of. After all, Abigor was the one who brainwashed Allen into a villain. It didn't happen yet in this timeline, and Allen will absolutely prevent that from happening. Oh, he's so not on board with the villain career, ever.

Allen must find a way to elimina-- uh, prevent a more disastrous event from happening in this place. What was he thinking of eliminating the demon by himself? That guy is Larence's to kill, not his. His job was only to lure the protagonist towards the enemies. But at the same time, he should make sure that Larence won't get killed by Will or any other unknown factors that would cost the boy's life.

Since Allen was deep in thought, he didn't notice his brother walking after him.

"Allen, I can make an excuse for you if you really don't want to go--"

"Not now, Ron. Let's talk later." Allen interrupts him and walks ahead, leaving the man behind. Obviously, Allen didn't even bother to entirely understand what his brother was saying.

Later on, at the ice skating activity...

"This is no fun... I can't even move freely." Allen complained. The wrinkles in his forehead are appearing because of too much frowning.

Rachel rolled her eyes and asked rudely, "So why are you here then?"

Allen arched a brow. He didn't know that Rachel was standing there all along. Seeing her presence displeases him more.

"Because for the first time in my life, I don't want to cause a ruckus more than it already is. Should you even be asking the obvious? Of course no one wants to face the infamous wrath of our teacher." he answered with a snarl, glaring at Sir Neil who was talking with the students.

"Want me to teach you then?" Calia butted in, looking at me with a sweet expression.

Allen almost sneered, good thing he was able to hold it in. He knew that she's just pretending to be friendly. "No thanks. I'm good." he answered calmly.

"It won't be fun if you don't have someone to skate with." a familiar voice was suddenly heard nearby. Allen turned to face Bella who's now skating towards them. "I'll join too, both of us will teach you skate." she offered as well.

'Why is she suddenly talking to me? As far as I know, she doesn't talk to me in the novel.' Allen thought, arching a brow at her. But he admits the fact that he's flattered that Bella's kinda chill with him. Unfortunately, the chill mood got ruined by a certain someone.

"Don't waste your time. It's obvious he won't accept anyone's help. After all, his pride's too high." Larence scoffed, suddenly appearing out of nowhere. "It would be nice to see his face fall on ice." he sneered at Allen.

Allen got irritated and sneered back. Honestly, he doesn't understand why their teacher wants the class to ice skate in the first place. They said that it's for everyone to bond and get along, but he doesn't have time for that. No matter what he does anyways, the results will remain the same. Out of irritation for Larence, he gave Bella an immediate answer.

"Alright, I changed my mind. You and Calia can teach me skate." Allen grumbled. A moment later, he noticed the displeased expression of Larence. He smirked at this. Seeing the protagonist pissed was the greatest victory for Allen. As Calia and Bella were about to teach him, Ryan suddenly appeared in front of them. Allen got startled and backed away.

"This is new, I never expect the prideful Allen accept someone's help." Ryan grinned teasingly.

"Shut up." Allen says in irritation.

Ryan stared at him, he was silent for a while.

Allen felt a bit uneasy as he sees the boy smile darkly. It isn't really obvious, but if you pay close attention, you would see the creepiness behind that smile. He starts to notice that Ryan is getting a bit suspicious of him. It can't be helped, Ryan's pretty sharp sometimes. It's kinda hard to avoid him since he always approaches Allen most of the time. Avoiding him is a worse choice either, it would make Allen seem more suspicious.

"Say, what's up with you for these past few days? I don't know if it's just me, but you're more grumpier than ever." Ryan chuckled, eying him curiously. Allen noticed something beneath that smile, there's something in it, it's like he's on guard towards him.

After Allen read the novel, he gained knowledge of disturbing informations about Ryan. Those fake smiles and friendly gestures that Ryan's making right now, he's doing that as a cover up in order for others not to think he's also a killer who kills murderers.

Allen gulped as he thought about what would happen if Ryan finds out that he knew about this information. Fear rose within him, if Ryan really does find out, Allen could imagine the thought himself being decapitated by the boy. That's a big possibility.

"Nothing. I'm just going through a stressful week." Allen replied with a groan. Well, it's true actually. For these past few days, he's been feeling ultimate stress because his life is always in danger. Everyday, he always keeps himself on guard, thinking that Will might attack him out of nowhere.

Suddenly, Allen sees a bug and flinched in alarm, causing him to land on Ryan. Unfortunately for the two, it seems they're both losing balance.

"Uh, Allen? We're going to--" before Ryan could even finish his sentence, both of them are speeding up out of nowhere for an unknown reason.

That's when they realized, they were skating-- uh, no, skiing through a slope nearby. But wait, is that even possible!?

"Allen! Ryan!" Calia exclaimed in an obviously faked concern as she watches the two slide down.

Ryan and Allen slid through the snow until they reached to the point where there are no people to be seen. The both crashed in a large pile of snow, which broke their fall.

As the two stood up while they're in an isolated place, Allen felt shivers. For some reason, he could sense a strange aura from Ryan.

"Allen." Ryan spoke the boy's name. Allen noticed the difference of the tone, it's unlike the ones he heard as usual.

"What?" Allen asked looking at Ryan, trying to hide the uneasiness he felt.

"I don't know what you found out about me, but I hope what you discovered wasn't really the entire information." Ryan turned to face him. Then he smiled darkly. "I'll be honest, I hate you. I really do."

Allen was surprised at Ryan's sudden change of attitude. Well, he already knew about the boy's history and stuff, but he didn't expect that he will suddenly say something like this face to face. Allen just frowned, trying to hide his nervousness as he waits for the other boy to continue.

"Even though I felt that kind of dislike towards you. I'm not really that cruel to drag someone into the dark." Ryan looked at Allen with unkind eyes.

Allen was now mentally cursing himself. This is just bullshit, why does he suck at being lowkey?

Before Allen could say anything, the bluenet walked closer to him.

"It's useless to act dumb, you know?" Ryan chuckled. "You wouldn't be acting weird around me if you didn't find out anything. That's why..." he trails off and looked at Allen warningly. "..I advise you to stop digging any deeper. My family doesn't like it when someone knows more about our history."

Ryan doesn't really want a civilian to be involved with the dark activities that his family does. No matter how bad Allen's attitude was, he doesn't hate him to the point of killing him. Ryan just dislikes Allen because the boy's behavior somewhat reminded him about his father's.

'Okay, this dude is really sharp.' Allen thought. He looks at Ryan with a calm demeanor, trying to control the fear that's swirling inside him. "So you're finally showing your true colors, huh? I didn't expect you would blurt out your true feelings this early." he scoffed.

Ryan stopped smiling and gave Allen a glare.

"I may not be excellent in school, but I am pretty sane enough not to butt into your business." Allen frowned, becoming more serious. What he said is the truth though. Lying would be an unwise choice because Ryan would see right through him at this moment.

"So I guess you're not entirely an idiot then?" Ryan smiles again. To Allen's relief, he could see the convinced look in the boy's eyes despite the wariness combined. "I don't know how you found out, but I guess I'll believe your words for now." he narrowed his eyes at Allen, but the creepy smile still remains.

"Tch. Whatever. Can we go now before anyone thinks you're strangling me to death or something?" Allen says, trying to act rude, but he was careful not to offend the boy much. If he shows any more fear, Ryan might notice that he actually knew more.

"Seriously, that personality of yours annoys me." Ryan says, showing a twitched smile.

"Suck it up. I don't care." Allen tells him, starting to go back on his way to the class. If only Allen could act nice around Ryan, he would have. Unfortunately, Ryan already knew him for how many years, he would be more suspicious if Allen acts nice or do some angelic personality shit. So the attitude that he should put up around Ryan, is a rude personality, but not too much, only neutral.

"Bastard." Ryan spat as he walks after Allen.

"Two-faced prick." Allen snapped back.

"Fair enough. Nice nickname." Ryan smiled, feeling amused as he wore a satisfied expression. Who is he to deny that? It's true after all.

Okay, Allen changed his mind. He takes back the thought about acting nice to Ryan. Allowed or not, being suspected or not, there's no way he'll be goody two shoes with him. He'd rather settle being mean to him instead, but not much to the point it would make Ryan go into an unfit range.
