Brother?

I looked at the figure at the door, almost completely the same as myself. The group looked back and forth between us, finding many similarities. "Sam?" I asked as I looked at his neat black hair. He smiled at me and we immediately went into a hug. "How did you get here?" I asked him as I pulled away from the hug and looked into his eyes. "It's a long story, I'll tell you later!" He said as he looked at me with a smile.

I turned around looking at the awkward gang, watching us, wondering what's going on. "Everyone, this is Sam Helgisson, my brother!" I said as I looked at everyone. "Hi Sam, I'm . . ." Everyone slowly introduced themselves, allowing Sam to process everyone's name's.

He looked so similar to me, except he had some freckles, and he was older. Sam was about twenty two, but he doesn't look that old. Ruff and Tuff started talking to each other about something dimwitted.

"So . . . Since you're related to . . . Eclipse are you a-a NightFury?" Hiccup asked slightly intimidated by Sam. "It's only Eclipse . . . And its a really long story about why she shifts." He said. "Tell them!" I asked him. He smiled at me, "Fine."

"Eclipse died the moment she was born, she had many breathing issues. It caused the whole village to be sad, that being the first child in a few years. That same night, before her burial, dragons attacked the island. There was two NightFury's, five Monstrous Nightmares, Seven Deadly Nadders, but I wasn't sure how many Groncles or Zipplebacks there was. I was sitting with my mom comforting her from her loss, one of the NightFurys jumped into the house through the window. It was next to baby Eclipse, it threatened to shoot us if we tried anything, so mom and I stayed near the far wall. The NightFury turned to look down at the cradle holding Eclipse. Mom started crying harder and started walking forward. "Don't!" She said before falling to the ground in tears. The NightFury lowered its head further into the cradle, opening its mouth just a tiny bit and shot something into Eclipse through her open mouth. Immediately, the NightFury zoomed off and I ran over to Eclipse with mom. Whatever the NightFury did, it helped Eclipse, and that was all that really mattered." Sam looked around the room.

"When she got shot she gained the ability to become NightFury or a Viking at any point she wished." Sam continued. "The only thing was, the Vikings didn't accept her, they didn't want a half dragon half Viking wondering around the village. They casted our family out, father drove our ship, taking us to a wonderful island." Sam continued as he had some kind of flashback.

"It was so beautiful, the trees swayed in the wind, the grass lovely and green, the weather was perfect . . .  But it didn't stay like that for long. On a day with no clouds in the sky, a hurricane struck and took down our island, along with our parents." He paused thinking some more. "Eclipse saved me, she was only about seven years old, but she shifted into a small NightFury, and carried me to a different island. We lived there safely for quite a bit of time, until Drago came. I hid Eclipse away . . . Sorry I'm getting off track." He said ending the story.

"Come on! Please continue!" I said and the rest of them agreed with me. "Well, I had Eclipse hide in an underground cave we found. I was about thirteen so it was three years after our parents died. I taught myself how to sword fight, and use a bow, it took quite a lot of time but I have accomplished it. I was armed and watched as approaching ships landed on our small familiar land. I lit some arrows and attempted to take down some ships, but their men caught me and took me away. Eclipse was safe in the cave, which was all that mattered. If they got her who knows what type of chaos could've happened."

He once again looked away for a moment. "They beat me, they starved me, and I never got to clean myself." He said as he looked at the ground. "They whipped my back with a belt, leaving scars that will be there forever. They starved me until my ribs showed, and all I could think about was Eclipse." Sam said finishing what he was saying.

I couldn't believe those-those Vikings could do things like that to Sam, what had he ever done?! "They did what to you?" I asked, now furious my brother had to go through such a thing. And what had I been doing during that time?! Oh that's right, sitting on an island waiting for him to come home, until I assumed the worst.

"Its okay Eclipse, I'm fine, nothing bad will ever happen to you or me or this Viking village." He said making promises he can't keep. "Sam, we all know you can't do that." I said, "Don't make promises you can't keep." He looked at me with an obscured expression, "Don't doubt me." He said in a joking matter.

"So sorry for you guys, I didn't know you had it so rough." Hiccup said as he genuinely patted my back. "Pshhh, me either." I said. "So, how did you get here?" Astrid asked as she looked away from me with a slightly jealous look. "I heard you guys defeated, not one, but TWO Bewilderbeasts!" Sam said changing the subject. "We did, it was amazing, Toothless and Eclipse defeated them . . ." Fishlegs started.

They continued telling him about it, all I was thinking about was, 'why didn't he want to tell them about his trip?'

Okay guys, what's your thought about Sam?

Did you enjoy the backstory, does it make sense now that you know how  Eclipse got her powers?
