Chapter 43

Naomi's POV

6 months later

My eyes scan over the pages of the parenting books and pregnancy stages as the babies date approaches. Yes, babies. I'm having twins, which is something I never expected. After we found out it was twins, I began to cry, and Dylan followed closely behind. He hugged me so tight I thought the babies would be crushed, but he quickly realized it as he released me like I was carrying the plague.

Ever since then, he's never left my side. I don't even have to call his name for him to be right next to me. He feeds me, rubs my feet. Even goes as far as to bathe me. I tell him at times that it's too much, but he shrugs off my comment while mumbling something in Chinese. Which follows with me quickly slapping him upside the head, kind of knowing what he saying since he's been teaching me.

He wants our children to speak Chinese when they're born and I completely agreed with him. I want our children growing up bilingual; knowing even more languages when they get older. I've begun to learn Chinese extremely slowly but surely. It's harder than it looks and usually nothing makes sense to me, but I'm learning it somehow.

I never understood why Dylan called the whole situation with Salo a war, when it was really anything but. Secrets were revealed and two people died but that's it. I expected more. You know, like bullets flying left and right while hundreds of bodies dropped. Not arguments between family and lies being told. It was disappointing to be honest. At least I got one kill in.

Once we returned home and got a lot of rest after the 'war', I told AJ the full story behind our relation. The more I told him, the more shock spread across his face. But at the same time, he was happy we weren't just closer by friendship, but closer by blood.

He's been visiting us a lot more than he used to as well. Not just because we realized we're related or because I'm pregnant, more like because Maria is staying with us. Whenever he comes over, he talks with us and asks about how I'm feeling and how the babies are doing before darting off to wherever Maria is. She's so shy around him, but if she realized how tight she has that boy wrapped around her finger, I guarantee she would be acting different.

But unfortunately, Maria is leaving today. Dylan and I were walking down the stairs, his hands on my back and across my stomach, making sure I make my way down safely. He wants me to move downstairs but  told him I won't feel comfortable sleeping anywhere else if it's not our room.

Once we reached the bottom, we walked to Maria, who was waiting patiently at the front door, all of her suitcases and bags sitting at her feet.

"Are you sure you have to go?" I ask her, not wanting her to leave. When AJ or Dylan weren't around, it would be just us two. And it was amazing. She would take care of me no matter how many times I protested that I could take care of myself. She's like a sister to me, and seeing her go was heart breaking even though she was a call away.

"As much as it pains me to say it, yes I have to. I need to fix my father's mistakes and rebuild the mafia. I also need to find Mateo," she says with a bit of sadness.

"There's still no sightings of him anywhere?" Dylan asks with barely any concern. Even though he doesn't care for Mateo, he knows Maria does. So, he's been helping her find him; using all of his men to search up and down, even involving allies in far away places. But still, there's no sign of him. It's like he's disappeared off the face of the Earth.

"Not a single one. He's just gone." Maria clutches her arm with her hand, worry swirling through her eyes. I come up to her and lay a hand on her shoulder.

"We'll find him. No matter where you go, we'll always be here to help," I reassure her.

A small smile rests on her face, content with my statement. Before I could process, she wrapped me in a hug. Well, it was some sort of loving embrace, seeing as my stomach was getting in the way. When we let go, tears were brimming in my eyes. I'm not sure if I could blame them on the pregnancy hormones this time.

"Girl, don't cry. I'll be right back over here as soon as I hear your water break," she jokes, earning a sappy smile from me. She wipes my tears that have found their way sliding down my face.

"Don't forget if you need anything-"

"You'll be the first I call. Don't worry, I have you on speed dial," she assures.

"Why aren't I on your speed dial?" Dylan and I turn around, seeing AJ walking out the kitchen, sucking each one of his fingers from whatever he just ate.

"I never said you weren't..." Maria mumbled. A smile appeared on my face as AJ stopped right next to Maria and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. Even though Maria wanted to lean in, she pushed him away.

"Don't touch me, you were just licking your fingers!" she whined while pushing him away. Against her baffling, AJ wiggled his fingers in her face, getting a squeal from Maria before she ran away.

Dylan and I watched the weird couple in front of us run around the house, trying to swallow as much time as they could with each other before it all comes to an end.

Maria wasn't the only one that had to rebuild her father's mafia. So did AJ. He had to head back to Nigeria to find out what other lies our father told and to take over. He was leaving tomorrow.

I rolled my eyes and laughed as AJ continued to run after Maria, fingers stretched far in front of him. Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit me, and I knew I wasn't going to be on my feet for long. I quickly grab Dylan's arm, trying to keep myself from falling.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Dylan asks with worry quickly filling his eyes.

"I just need to rest," I assure him. He hesitantly nods before calling out to AJ. I'd gotten too distracted to realize AJ finally caught up to Maria and was throwing  her around in his arms, her laughs and yelps filling the house. AJ put Maria down and walked over to us, breathless but hand in hand with Maria.

"She's not feeling good, I'm going to take her upstairs," he let's AJ know. He nods before coming over to me and giving me a light hug and a kiss on the forehead.

"Get some rest," he tells me. I nod but laugh when I see the glare that has found its way to Dylan's face.

"Dude, chill we're related!" AJ laughs while lightly punching Dylan on the shoulder.

"Plus," he says before wrapping an arm around Maria's waist. "I have everything I need right here," he assures before kissing her on the cheek, making Maria blush. Dylan grumbled, still not glad with his actions.

"Shut up and take me upstairs, Mr. Jealousy," I tell him with a slap on his chest. His attention quickly falls on me as he slowly guides me towards the steps.

"Wait!" Maria calls out before coming to me and swallowing me in a hug. I could feel that she wanted to squeeze me tight but didn't, not wanting to harm the babies.

"I love you," I here her whisper through my hair. My eyes begin to swell again. Now this, I blame on the pregnancy hormones.

"I love you too." We release each other and this time I'm not the only one who's crying.

"I'll be back," she says through her tears. I nod my head with a smile before I watch her walk away and slam into AJ's arms. He doesn't hesitate to wrap his arms tightly around her, not bothering to wipe the tears that roll down his face.

"Come on," Dylan says pulling my waist to take me upstairs, letting them have their moment. A moment they won't have for a long time. Maria is staying in her father's house for about a week before she heads back to Columbia. That's where she'll stay until her mafia is good again. Lord knows how long that could take. Dylan told me for a mafia as big as hers with no help from her brother and only allies from afar, it could take years. But she was willing to make it happen. The same goes for AJ. He'll  be in Nigeria by tomorrow, which makes their goodbye so much more painful.

Once we reach our bedroom, Dylan quickly changes our clothes and lays us in bed. Everything he does now he does with such delicacy that I'm surprised that such a cold guy could ever do something gingerly. Once we're comfortable, Dylan wrap his hand around my bulging stomach like he does every night.

"You know, once these babies are out, I'm going to ravage you," he whispers seductively in my ear. Tingles run down my spine hearing his words.

"Shénme?" is all I say in a shaky voice. 'What' is really all I've been able to say correctly in Chinese. All this did was earn a growl from Dylan.

"When you talk in Chinese, you don't even know what it does to me," he whispers, trailing his hand on my stomach further down.

"Well what else are we supposed to do on our honeymoon?" I ask him, amusement evident in my voice. Dylan growls again.

"The sooner these babies are out, the faster I get to marry you and get you pregnant again," he continues. That sends me but I try not to react.

"Well, you better pray these babies come out perfect. Less time in the hospital the better," I tell him.

"No need to pray for it," Dylan assures adding a kiss to my cheek.

"I know they will."
