Chapter 16: Visions, Deities & Bites

This chapter has been edited!!

Max's POV-

In Max's Nightmare;

I was running, desperate. I couldn't find Lucas anywhere. I was in the forest, except it was on fire. There were bodies everywhere in the area I was in, almost every single one burned and charred. I was in the clearing where I met Lucas, and I still had no luck. Thats when I realized I wasn't alone.

They were all around me. A tight circle of them surrounded me, with no openings to possibly escape through. I watched in horror as demons of all kinds, and mages, with eyes burning with hatred advanced on me. Demons of Pride, Despair, Rage, Fear, and even Wisp Wraiths, were bound to the mages with red magical cords. This must be blood magic!

"Bind him!" a woman's voice rung out through the army. Several mages raised their staves, and ropes shot out of them. The ropes coiled like snakes around me, causing me to drop my staff and fall to my knees. I tried to use an unbinding spell, but it was useless. After a few attempts I realized that my powers were blocked. As I struggled, acid green smoke formed in front of me, and when it cleared, it revealed a young woman with forest green eyes and long black hair.

"Who are you? What do you want with me?" I demanded. She giggled, her laugh sickeningly sweet.

"Clara Westwood, my dear Maxwell Lavellen", she answered. "We were meant to be married before your father stupidly banished you. But now, I can finally have you." I glared at her with distaste.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm already in love with someone", I spat, venom clear as day in my voice. An evil and crazed glint went through her eyes.

"That is an easy fix", she said. Clara waved her hand, and acid green smoke appeared to her right. Once it cleared, Lucas, to my horror, was in its place. He too was bound, but with chains made from silver than rope. My rage grew even more when I saw the raw rashes that the silver did to Lucas's sun-kissed skin.

Forgetting about my situation, I tried to free Lucas from the chains.

"Fractos! Fractos!" I yelled desperately, but to no avail. Lucas raised his head, and terror and guilt shimmered in his eyes.

"I'm sorry Max", he said, pain laced in his voice. "I wasn't able to keep you safe. I've failed you, and the pack."

"No! Don't you dare say that!" I shouted. I tried getting to him by speaking, trying to talk sense into him, but he never met my eyes, his guilt being too great. I looked over to Clara to see her summoning a sword and walking towards Lucas. He looked up and saw her with the sword, and fear flashed in his eyes. She raised the blade.

"No! Don't do it! Please!" I begged. "I can't live without him!" She ignored my cries, as she magically made Lucas's neck bow before her.

"Max, I lo-" Lucas was cut off, as she swung the sword and beheaded him, his head rolling and stopping in front of me, leaving a trail of blood.

"NNNNOOOO!!" I screamed as unbearable pain shot through my body. It felt like fire that threatened to burn me from the inside out. I wanted to claw my skin off. I wanted to rip out my already shattered heart and crush it the rest of the way, just so that I could join him in death. I began to sob uncontrollably, the pain and grief only getting worse. She killed him! She killed the only one I have ever truly loved other than my mother who had passed away years ago. Now he's dead too. The mages around us began to cheer in victory.

Clara walked up to me, and roughly grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at her.

"You're mine now, Maxwell Lavellen", she whispered, evilly.

End of Nightmare:

I was woken up by being shook and slight shouting. As I came to my senses, I recognized the voice. Lucas! A sob broke through my lips when I saw his handsome face, eyes filled to the brim with worry and fear. I flung my arms around him and held onto him tightly. He wrapped his arms around my torso, just as tightly. I started to sob into his shoulder.

"Don't you fucking DARE let go of me Lucas!" I practically commanded.

"I'm not going anywhere Max, and that's a promise", he reassured, rubbing my back. "You were crying in your sleep! Are you alright?"

"No! I just had the most horrific nightmare I've ever had!" I wailed. "It involved you dying!" His hold on me tightened.

"How did it go?" Lucas pressed. I painfully told him about my nightmare, from start to finish. My face never left his shoulder.

"I'm scared that it might mean something", I said. "I don't want anything to happen to you Lucas! I wouldn't be able to handle it!"

"Max, look at me", he said. I leaned back from his shoulder and met his eyes. "Trust me when I say this; nothing like that will ever happen to either of us if I can help it. Now I won't rule it out, but it could very well mean something, since we're both Supernatural beings. But we don't know that for sure." That sparked a memory.

"The lake!" I whisper-yelled. Lucas gave me a confused look. "I heard of an old legend that wise, but kind spirits lived in its waters. I've had another nightmare like this, minus the girl and mages. It was the reason I came to this area in the first place! Perhaps they could determine if my nightmares meant anything."

"It wouldn't hurt to try", Lucas agreed. "But how would we contact them?"

"I think I remember a set of phrases that you have to recite in order to contact them", I said. I got out of bed and summoned my staff. "Let's go."

"Now?" Lucas asked. "It's the middle of the night. And we're in our pajamas. "

"I'm not even tired now", I said. "I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep after that nightmare anyways. I also heard that it works better in the light of a full moon. And who cares if we are, I'm not changing into something else."

"That settles it then", Lucas replied. He threw on a black T-shirt. "Let's get to the lake."

I waved my hand and teleported us to the lake in a puff of white smoke. The full moon shone brightly over the lake's still waters. It was beautiful, but now was not the time for distractions. I walked up to the water, knelt down on one knee, and dipped the top of my staff in the water. I then made it glow gold.

"I think it goes like this", I said, then cleared my throat, concentrating on my staff. "Come to me, oh Great Spirits. Whatever you are, whoever remains, I invoke your names and power." My staff dimmed, and I rose from the ground. After a few seconds, three orbs of light rose from the lake's depths. One was rose pink, one a silvery white, the last one forest green.

The orbs levitated above the water and gently floated to the shore in front of us. They began to glow very bright, making Lucas and I shield our eyes. When the light stopped, we uncovered our eyes, to see three incredibly beautiful women standing before us. The one on the left had long orange-red hair with gold bands in it, chestnut brown eyes, and she was wearing a white linen dress. The woman to the right had long silvery hair, bronze-colored eyes, a silver crown with a crescent moon engraved in it, and she was wearing a silver and gold linen dress. But the woman in the middle was the most beautiful out of the three.

She had long blonde hair, with sapphire blue eyes, a crown made with leaves, vines, and flowers, and she was wearing flowing forest-green robes. These weren't ordinary spirits. They were goddesses! Not just any goddesses though. They were Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, Selene, the Moon Goddess, and Demeter, the Greek Goddess of Earth!

"My Ladies", I said. I heard a light laugh come from one of the goddesses.

"No need for that my children", one said. I lifted my head to see all three-woman smiling at me and Lucas warmly.

"Just refer to us by our names", Demeter suggested. "So much simpler than saying our titles, is it not?" I glanced over at Lucas, who looked like he couldn't believe what he was seeing. I mean, it's not every day that you meet a goddess, let alone three!

"What brings you here, dear ones", asked Aphrodite. "There must be a reason why you asked for us at this hour." I nodded.

"I have two questions", I said. "First, why did you three answer us, but not regular spirits?" Demeter chuckled.

"We three have put tiny portions of our power into this lake", she explained. "This was to provide us easy access to this world without any other god knowing about. We of course started the legend, otherwise ones who had lost their way wouldn't be able to seek us for guidance. But only us three goddesses know about it; the other gods are clueless. I've enchanted the legend, that way only us three would be able to hear and listen about the lake."

"That was very clever", Lucas said.

"Thank you", Selene said. "Now, what was your other question?" I gripped Lucas's hand as I painfully told them about my nightmare. Empathy shown in all of their eyes, and I knew I wouldn't like their answer.

"You're a Seer", Aphrodite confirmed. "That's the only explanation that makes sense."

"I agree with you, my sister", Selene said. "What do you think Demeter?"

"I too believe that he is a Seer, but his version only allows him to see the future in random visions, him not being able to look into the possible futures at will", Demeter said. "But him being a Seer, and that nightmare definitely connects to what we have seen Clara doing."

"What are you saying", Lucas demanded, slight frustration in his tone.

"We believe that based on Clara's activities and Maxwell's nightmare, that she is raising an army of demons to invade your pack", Demeter said.

"And she will stop at nothing to get to you", Selene pointed out, referring to me.

Lucas was growling in anger, and I didn't stop him. I was shocked beyond belief, but I was more pissed off than anything. I was pissed at the fact that this bitch wanted to take away the one person who made me truly happy. And this was because she didn't get her way with the arranged marriage?

"But if we give you the right tools, you will have a better chance of averting the darkness to come", Aphrodite reassured. "Selene, you are first." Selene stepped forward.

"I have two gifts", she declared. "The first goes to you, Maxwell." She took my hand in hers, and her eyes began to glow white. "I am granting you a wolf. An Alpha wolf spirit to be exact. His name is Winter, he is a pure white wolf, and I am allowing you to be his carrier permanently. He will provide you with greater physical strength, another way to fight during a battle, and you will be able to use small acts of your magic in while in wolf form. Your mate will help you with your first shifts and how to fight like a wolf, as he is the best one suitable to do so. And as I've already inquired, your magic will remain while having a wolf. You'll simply be a hybrid. But a very powerful one."

Selene let go of my hand, and her eyes stopped glowing. I looked up to see a wolf, half an inch smaller than Lucas's, that was transparent, wispy, and a pretty pure white color, running through the air towards me. He halted in front of me, gave me an approving look, and became a glowing white orb. The orb gently flew into my chest, and I felt a mixture of so many things. My hearing became much sharper, as I could hear Lucas's heartbeat and slight changes in the wind. My sense of smell had amplified, as Lucas's scent became stronger and more pungent. But I loved it to no end. I felt so much stronger physically, and I didn't need muscles to prove it. In the back of my consciousness, I felt Winter make himself at home. This will take some getting used to, but I am sure it won't take long.

"For you, my child", Selene said, turning to Lucas. "I'm giving yours, and everyone else's wolves in your pack a blessing. It will provide extra strength and it will ensure some magical resistance to both wolf and human forms."

Lucas and I bowed our heads before her.

"Thank you, Selene", we said together. She gave us a grin, and stepped back, allowing Aphrodite to step forward.

"Your love is unique, just like any other couple's love is unique in some way", she said. "That is why I'm blessing both you and your pack. No matter the outcome of the battle ahead, because there will be death, all of the members of your pack will never be truly separated from their mates and other loved ones."

"Thank you, Aphrodite", we said, bowing our heads to her. She bowed as well, then stepped back, and with Selene, watched as Demeter stepped towards us.

"I only have one gift, and it is for you Maxwell Lavellen", she said, her tone serious. "I'm giving you a very powerful magical object, that no witches, wizards, or other mages know about, but could only dream about. Some would kill to get this object and abuse the power that it gives its wielder. That is why you must swear to me that you will not abuse the power I'm giving you." I dropped to one knee and bared my neck to the Earth Goddess.

"I swear on my life, Great Mother, Demeter, that I will humbly receive your gift, and use it only for the forces of good, not darkness", I stated. She hummed, accepting my oath, and held out her hand. A staff of different, but better, design than my own materialized out of thin air in her hand.

"This staff will allow you to channel your magic through it more efficiently", Demeter explained. "The spells you do with this staff compared to your current one will be extremely more powerful and effective. This staff is unique, because while the spells you cast with it are extremely more powerful, it requires less energy from its wielder to cast them."

"But the most powerful, but deadly feature of this staff, is that it can strip the magic from any type of spellcaster", she continued. "But it's permanent, unlike some spells that were created to only temporarily take away one's powers. No matter the strength, rank, or skill of the spellcaster, their magic permanently leaves them, and it can't be reversed. The only beings immune to the staff's effects are any of the gods." She held it out for me to take. I reached out to take it, but I hesitated a little and moved my hand back a few inches.

"Why entrust me with such a powerful weapon, when there are so many other options out there?" I asked the goddess.

"You're the only one that I have found worthy enough to wield its power by using it only for good", Demeter revealed. "Your slight hesitation, and you're questioning why you were specifically picked to have this staff is proof." She held it out further, and I took it this time. I felt a nice warmth emit from the staff, and gold and silver sparks flew out of the top of it, signaling that it approved of its new owner.

"That staff will take some getting used to", Demeter warned. "I suggest you start training with it and your wolf tomorrow. Clara is assembling her army quickly, and she plans to attack two days after your birthday Maxwell."

"That only leaves us a week!" Lucas blurted. "We have to tell the pack! We need to prepare for battle!"

"I'll make sure that no humans interrupt you and your pack during preparations, or during the fighting", Selene chimed in.

"Thank you, Great Goddesses", I said, both me and Lucas bowing with respect. "We are forever grateful and in your debt." All three smiled at us.

"Pay us back by winning this fight", Aphrodite said. "Mine and Selene's blessings will be carried out tonight. Now go and alert your pack!" The goddesses looked like they were about to turn back into orbs, but I stopped them as a question popped into my head.

"Wait! What was the reason behind me and Lucas being mates?" I asked Selene. "Did you and Tunare have plans for us when you split the soul and gave a half to each of us?" She smiled then winked.

"That is for you to decide", she replied, vaguely. I just nodded my head, not quite understanding what she had told me.

Lucas and I bowed before them again. The goddesses did the same to us, then bright light began to shine from them. I looked away so the light didn't blind me, Lucas doing the same. I looked back to see the goddesses as orbs of light again. They floated to the center of the lake and disappeared below the surface. After a minute of silence, Lucas blurted out-

"I can't believe we've met three goddesses in one night!"

"I agree", I said simply. "Can we go back to the pack house Lucas? I'm extremely exhausted, and I'd rather speak about this tomorrow." Lucas nodded in understanding, and I smiled gratefully at him. Deciding to keep my old staff just in case, I picked it back up, having dropped it at the sight of the goddesses. New staff in my right hand, old one in my left, I used the new one to teleport us back to our room in the pack house. When the smoke cleared, I set the staves in a corner beside our bed. I was already dreading the days to come.

"What's on your mind?" Lucas chimed in. I turned around to face him.

"I'm terrified", I said, bluntly. "If my vision comes true, I don't know what I would do. Losing you-"

"Max", Lucas interrupted. "Come here." I walked over to him, and he pulled me close to him, and I responded by burying my face into his chest.

"You will not lose me", he said sternly. "There's no way in hell I would allow us to ever lose each other. And that stupid witch will learn the hard way of trying to take away what's mine." I don't know what had come over me, my new wolf, or because I was finally ready. I slammed my lips onto Lucas's, pushing him onto his back, and I was on his waist, straddling him.

"Mark me", I pleaded. Lucas's eyes widened in shock.

"Are you sure?" he asked. I nodded furiously.

"Yes, I'm ready!" I begged more. "Please." His eyes began glowing lilac purple, meaning his wolf had surfaced.

"As you wish, my beautiful mate", Lucas said, his voice a bit deeper and gruff because of his wolf. To me though, it only made him even more sexy. He allowed his canines to enlarge, then he plunged them into the sweet spot on my neck. I moaned loudly, not from pain, but from pure, raw pleasure. I gripped Lucas's shirt as I shivered with pleasure. I felt small jets of warmth spread from where his teeth were piercing my skin all throughout my body. His scent was mixing with mine, laying a warning to all Supernatural that I was his, and only his.

I too, let my new wolf take control for the first time, and I felt my canines grow. I dived for his neck and pierced his skin. I heard a grunt from Lucas, but neither of us pulled away. Around half a minute later we both extracted our teeth and licked the wounds closed. I was even more exhausted now, too tired to even look at the mark on Lucas's neck.

I snuggled into Lucas's chest. I gently tugged on his shirt, signaling to him that I wanted it off. He responded by immediately taking it off, allowing me to snuggle further into him. I love the feel of his warmth, so skin-to-skin contact with him was heavenly. Honestly, any physical contact with Lucas was heavenly, it was just better when he didn't have a shirt on. Using what little energy, I had left, I snapped my fingers, making the lights we had turned on earlier turn off. I laid down with Lucas, laying on top of him, his strong and muscular arms holding me close, making me feel warm, safe, and protected from all dangers in the world. As I drifted off to sleep, I heard Lucas faintly whisper-

"Your mark is so beautiful."

Max's new staff with Fire Magic

Max's new staff with Ice Magic

Max's staff with Lighting Magic

AN: What did you think of the goddesses? Should I have included Aphrodite or left her out? What did you think of the gifts they gave them? Should I change anything? Should I change what Max's new staff looks like, or keep it? And AWWWW! They've marked each other! No mating yet! That will come, but I'm not writing a scene like that! Too awkward to write. Anyways I'm rambling, and sorry I got this chapter up so late at night!
