Prologue

"I've settled a place for you at Yu Qing Highschool,"

"What, really? When am I leaving for China?"

"Next week. You will be starting school as a new transfer student."

"But what about Pa and Ma--"

"Pa has told me that Ma is recovering well. He says you can go, he thinks it's better to return to China to continue your studies for now."

"Si Yang..."

"I'll pick you up from the airport next Sunday, see you there."

"Of course, can't wait to see you after so long. I'll hang up now, bye!"

"Bye,"

I tucked my phone into the pocket of my hoodie, chewing on a piece of mint gum, which I've heard helps to prevent your ears from popping when on a plane, and placed my earphones in my ears. This was not the first time I've travelled overseas alone, so I wasn't afraid.

My eyes travelled past the painted white lines that guided the plane's direction. The sky was a blinding hue of blue. The rumbling grew faster, louder. Then the noise ceased into a graceful silence as the plane ascended from the gravel below.

I shoved my hands in my pockets and closed my eyes. The flight to China was going to be a long one.
