Believe Me

I head down the stairs and as I descend I hear someone yell outside. The front door is open and I see no one in the halls so my guess is that everyone is out getting ready for practice like Mia had said.

I open the door and look out into the distance. Everyone is out in the field doing whatever and Margaret is sitting at one of the tables talking to John. So much for being late to practice.

I close the door but leave it open just the slightest before heading down the stairs. Chirstian is sitting at the bottom of the stairs on the phone as I walk past.

"Yes babe" he chuckles. He must be talking to his girlfriend. I remember him saying something about how he was taken when we first came to the camp. Seem like it was so long ago.

He lowers his voice as I get closer. I look at him and his blues meet mine. He nods at me so I wave and continue to walk over to everyone else. I walk past everyone and I look over to Mia, she smiles and I smile back. I wonder if she thinks I feel some type of way since she told me about her crush to Xander.

I continue walking until I hit the table. Margaret and John both stop talking and look up at me.

"I really need to tell you something Marg" I tell her. I take a seat across from her and John gets up off the table.

She looks at me, "is everything okay Zoe?" She has worry written all over her face.

"No. I mean yes, everything is fine but it's really important" I look at John and he looks toward Marg.

"Do you want him to leave?" She points to John. He smiles my way.

"No, he can hear but I really need you to listen-"

"This sounds like one of those girl talks, I'm going to start practice or at least try too" John unfolds his arms and leaves the table making his way toward the crowd of students waiting.

"So what is it?" Marg says.

"Okay, so-" I pause for a moment and think about what I'm about to tell her. What if she doesn't believe me? Just like she didn't believe I could see my Mom that time I fainted.

"Whatever I say, you have to promise to believe me. I swear to you, I am telling the truth okay?"

"Depends on what it is" she responds and I really don't want to tell her now. But it's too late.

I let out a breath before I continue, "so on the night of the full moon, I went out with everyone else and....something happened" I look up to make sure she's still listening and she nods for me to continue.

"I know I told you nothing happened but I lied. I went out and I was by myself and something weird happened. The ground was shaking and my ears were ringing and I fell to the ground. My skin started to turn black and my eyes were all black and I didn't know what was happening till now"

I stop for a minute before continuing, "I know this may be hard to believe but I looked at some stuff in the media room and I came up with the idea of having some sort of blood called midnight blood"

"Woah Zoe, what are you saying?" She sits up straight and looks at me like I have three heads.

"I don't know what I'm saying, actually I do but I really need you to believe me. You don't think it's weird that Susan or her daughter couldn't examine me or read my future? You don't think it's weird that I can heal myself just like that?" I tell her.

"Yes Zoe, but your hybrid and hybrids can come out to be or do anything. You can heal and Stacey said she was still getting the hang of it all"

"Okay so what about Susan? Why couldn't she see anything in my body? She said something about it being blank or all black" I try to think of what she said.

Margaret let's out a breath, "she has trouble sometimes too I'm sure. Maybe she just wasn't doing something right"

I look at her and nod, "okay" I scan the courtyard and my eyes land on the trees.

"It happened again. When I was out in the woods by myself that night you saw me going upstairs. I was coming from outside and I was out in the woods, the power came too me like nothing"

"What power Zoe? I have no idea what you mean? What the hell is midnight blood?" She looks around to see if anyone heard her.

"I don't know for sure. But I had a dream about my Mom. And she told me that I had it and I saw in a book! She told me in the dream that I had midnight blood in my veins and I was more powerful than anything on this earth"

"Zoe just stop! Please, I don't get all this" she says before reaching up to run her fingers over her temples.

"Margaret I swear I'm not lieing. Please believe me" I grab her hand. She looks me in the eyes and her mouth opens like shes going to say something but she doesn't as it closes back.

"Mia!!" I let go of her hand and yell.

Mia looks over at the table and comes running toward us.

"Hey, what's wrong?" She says.

"Please tell Margaret how you were outside that night I was and you saw something. You saw me but I just wasn't like anything you've seen before" I look at her.

She swallows and I can see Margaret wait for her answer.

"Its true Marg, Zoe was out in the woods and something did happen" she explains in the most simple way.

I look at Marg, "see I'm not making this up Margaret, I would never lie about something like this"

She bites her lip and her head falls in thought. She runs her hands together before folding her arms and looking at me.

"I don't know Zoe"

"Fine, look at this" I grab the dagger out of my back pocket and it's still wrapped in the cloth. I unwrap it but leave it on the table so Margaret can see every detail.

"How could you possibly explain this?" I point to it and she looks more closely, "how can this just change? I did it, with those powers"

She looks at me and hesitates to grab the dagger. She doesn't want it to burn her like last time. I wait for her to pick it up because I know it won't burn her. It's my weapon now. It fights and protects the good.

"You still have that?" Mia asks, her eyes thin to slits as she examines the dagger also.

"Yeah" I say. Marg finally picks it up and looks at it closely. She runs her fingers slowly up and down the blade and then over the body of it.

"Zoe, what did you do to it? You really did this?" She asks and I nod.

She shakes her head and places it back in the cloth grabbing the side folds to wrap it up again. Then she gets up out of her seat and I wait for her to say something.

"I just don't know what to say Zoe"

I really look at her. How her brown hair makes her deep blue eyes pop even more. I'm not even mad, nope. Not even close to mad. The only thing I need to throw my anger towards is those High Rollers for what pain they caused that will always hunt me even after they get what they have coming to them. I'm not mad, I'm anxious and furious. I want her to believe me. I want her to see that I'm telling the truth and she will. Oh she will Zoe, don't you worry.

"Okay, fine" I grab the dagger and put it back in my pocket, "that's okay, you don't have to believe me Marg. I knew you wouldn't, but you should believe when I say you'll see soon enough that everything won't always be easy and the way things used to be"

I get out of my seat and leave her and Mia there at the table as I make my way over to John and the others.

"Everything okay?" Jake asks.

I look at him and force a smile, "everything is perfect"
