Chapter Fifteen

"For this assignment, you will be paired up with a partner whom I haven't seen you work with before and you will be forced to work with them for the entire term, get excited people," I stare in boredom at the teacher, silently cussing her out. I hate group work, I'm better working individually.

I look around the room, everyone in this room I hate. There's the people that think they're so cool, the people that expect others to do all the work, people that want to work on the assignments everyday. Please don't put me with someone like that. Then there's Jake Collins, please do not put me with him.

"Faye Lacuna with Thomas Wales," eh he isn't too bad, he is just more reserved so no one really ever talks to him. I don't know him so I'm not one to judge, however other people obviously do.

"The two weirdos are together," people snicker making me roll my eyes. I look at Jake, his face is the same as it always is; moody, resting bitch face and scary. I'm glad I'm not partnered with him.

"Now, pairs... sit next to each other, get to know each other as you'll be working together for this partner based assignment," she says. It is just physical education, why can't we do the sport side only?

The bell goes so of course everyone picks up their stuff as fast as they can so they can leave the room quickly. Ruby appears out of no where and grins, "can I come over to your house this weekend?" She asks me out of the blue.

"Um sure?" I answer in suspicion.

"Great!" She chirps and skips away.

"The only way this is going to work is if you make her fall in love with me. You need to make her fall for me Ruby, when her father sees and hears about who I am he will be mortified," I chuckle.

Ruby rolls her eyes at me making me growl and glare at her, "why can't you get Tyler or someone to do it?" She whines.

"Because you're a girl and none of us guys know how to get a girl to fall for us," I state the obvious.

"Well here's a tip, make her fall in love with you yourself. Be kinder, flirt, tease, make her feel so important," she gives me tips.

I sigh and run a hand through my hair, "are they all really necessary?" When she nods I groan. "You girls really are hopeless romantics," she smirks.

"Well that's the best part. Who else would make the relationship work?" She questions, Max raises his eyebrows at her.

"Ugh, the guy?" He suggests. This makes her scoff, Max's mouth drops open and he shakes his head at his girlfriend.

"You guys hardly put the effort in," his mouth drops open further. It's my time to roll my eyes, they're forgetting about the plan. Do they not get that this is highly important?

"Enough!" I command, they grow silent. "Ruby you will ask Faye to go over to her house. You will talk about me. You will tell her how amazing I am. You will make her fall in love with me," I order.

"But Jake, this isn't right. She hasn't done anything to you, it was her dad and his friends. Why bring her into this?" Ruby painfully asks.

"All of the Lacuna family deserves to feel as much pain as I did, as I do," I angrily spit.

"Your dad wasn't a good person, he was the one that shot Nova. It was defence. Your dad beat you, Jake. Why are you trying so hard to defend him? He's dead," everything she says is true. I just don't like hearing it. I slam my fist against the wall.

"SHUT UP!" I roar, she goes silent and gulps.

"Jake, calm down," Max says.

"Both of you get out, I need to be alone."
Faye's POV
"Do you fancy anyone at school?"

"Do I fancy anyone? No way," I scoff. "All the guys are lunatics, all they want is sex and more sex," I laugh.

"Not all of them. Max isn't like that," Ruby smiles.

"A Max is rare to find," I softly answer.

"What about Jake. He's handsome, he's also really nice and when he loves someone; he means it and will love them with all his heart," I snort at what she says, this is so amusing. What game is she playing at? Jake is not kind whatsoever.

"I don't think so," I laugh.

"You haven't known him as long as I have. Why don't you give him a chance?" She persists. I frown, why is she being so eager and pushing it?

"Is there something you're not telling me?" I question, she stays silent and I lean forward. "Please tell me, I promise I won't tell anyone! Cross my heart and hope to die," I even do the actions.

"Well-"

"Oh god. He likes me, doesn't he?" I cut her off, that's obviously the reason. Why else would she be this persistent? Wait, he's hot im not. He's popular and I'm definitely not. "Wait, never mind. He definitely doesn't," I chuckle.

"He does," she responds instantly. "You can't tell him I told you though, promise?" I nod my head.

"I don't think I could ever like him like that," I honestly say. He hasn't really been nice to me, I haven't seen the good in him as of yet.

"You never know. Please, give him a chance," she pleads with me. I sigh and think for a couple of minutes, I don't want to be hurt again. I'm sick of being hurt. But I guess you only live once. So why not be hurt all over again?

"Fine."

"Hey," I lean against the wall next to him in a nervous manner. Hey? Why am I so embarrassing? Jake shuts his locker and looks me up and down.

"Hey," he responds. He's so tall, as well as handsome and those muscles.

"How are you?" I awkwardly ask.

"Yeah, good good. How about you?" He raises his eyebrows when I don't answer for a while. I snap out of my trance and clear my throat, this is so nerve wracking.

"Um, great."

"Is there anything I can help you with?" He questions. He seems confused, maybe he doesn't want to talk to me? Oh lord, why did I say hey? I should have waited for him to come to me. I mean, if he wanted to talk then he would start a conversation right? Maybe Ruby was lying. "What's going on in that pretty head of yours?" My heart just melted.

"Ughhh... nothing," I snap my mouth closed. He blinks for a moment, then in realisation- smirks.

"You just want to talk to me, don't you?" He gloats about this fact which makes me sigh. "You've changed," he takes note.

"So have you. You're usually closed off, you usually hate me," I laugh. He doesn't seem amused so I stop laughing and cough a few times as if I need to clear my throat when I really do not.

"I've never hated you. That would be ridiculous to assume," he scoffs. I smile slight, somewhere deep inside me knows that this is all a lie. The good soon turns to bad, nothing lasts forever. I want to believe this will last, that this is all so true; but I can't. He's lying, so is Ruby. Everyone's lying to me.
