Chapter 3

Day 70

A Thirteen year old girl joined us. Her name is Iris. She seems like she's been taken care of during this shit show. Maybe I'll figure something out.

May The Sun Shine Again,

Clove

Iris glanced over at Clove, who sat with a red notebook in her lap, shining a little dim flashlight over the page. She had just been scribbling away at it and seemed like she was contemplating adding more. Finally the dirty blonde girl quickly wrote a few more words, no more than a line, and slipped the book and a black pen back into Glenn's bag

Glenn, taking that as a sign it was time to start moving again, stood up and tossed the yellow bag over his shoulders. Iris stood too, and helped Clove pack up the makeshift tent.

The trio set out across the cold damp sand, the misty air had gotten so much colder since the first eruption. As the months kept passing it was bound to get colder anyway, it was September now. By October it will be too cold for Clove and Glenn's matching hoodies and Iris's thin spring jacket.

Iris's green eyes looked over at the friends. She had only joined them on their way off the island yesterday but they seemed close, like they had known each other before the ash blocked the sky forever. If not then they must have robbed a couple or something. Glenn wore dirty dark blue jeans, a yellow hoodie with stripes across the chest. He also had his yellow backpack. The yellow contrasted against his dark skin nicely. Clove wore a red hoodie with stripes on the sleeves. If you took the sleeves off of her hoodie and put it on Glenn's then then the stripes would line up perfectly. She also wore a dirty pair of light wash jeans that were ripped in the knees slightly. Probably from the outdoors and elements because the rips didn't seem manufactured.

Aspen rolled over, watching his twin sister sleep. She had told him that she had heard a dog barking and that she thought there was another person sharing this forest with them. He had told her that it was probably a stray or even a different canine.

Ivy yawned, pushing herself up on herself up into a sitting position.

"I heard what I heard..." She glared at her brother.

"I didn't say that you didn't hear it, did I?"

"No..."

Aspen sat up too, poking the embers of the fire that they had lit with Ivy's lighter, Aspen's had finally died the day before. " How about we check it out tomorrow. If there is another person we can try and make friends, and...if it turns bad, we can always rob them and take off." Aspen said, trying to be reasonable.

Ivy's head snapped to the side at the sound of more faint barking. Aspen stood up.

"Sounds good." Ivy mumbled out.

Author's note: I am back!!! I went through a lot of depression. I was in a bad relationship and I was having a rough time with school work (still very much am) but I am determined to finish this book.

May The Sun Shine Again,

Amber <3
