Chapter sixteen - Challenges and rambling

Being a mom at such a young age wasn't something I planned on doing. Don't get me wrong I love babies and more times than none I get broody for a baby but there was no way in hell I planned on having one at nineteen never mind with my idiot of a roommate

"Grayson" I mutter throwing one of the babies teddy's at him in attempt to wake him "it's your turn to get up"

He mutters profanities under his breath before shuffling out of bed. I smile and snuggle deeper into my bedsheets but it's short lived when instead of helping the baby, Grayson decides to pull open the curtains revealing the morning sunshine

Now you may be wondering what's happening? What baby? Me and Grayson? Is it months later?

Well here at Greenvale University California, you don't just attend your lectures they decide to take it a little bit further than high school and your typical college they like to prepare you for unexpected circumstances or later life and a prime example is what's happening right now....

It's what they call the baby challenge. A challenge where you and your roommate who in my case happens to be a boy, have to babysit a battery controlled baby which will be monitored by the university for 48 hours

Sounds fun? It's not

"I'm going to throw this little shit out the window in a minute" Grayson runs a hand throw his already messy hair

"And then you can pay the price of the little shit" I deadpan

Grayson picks up said baby, rubbing his back soothingly "Can't you just take the day off classes and take it"

"It's name is Kayla" I cross my arms. Yes we were forced to name the battery controlled toy "and no I took her to classes yesterday you can deal with her today"

"You took her for the two classes we had her"

"Because you wouldn't"

"Well I have somewhere I need to be tonight so you can take her then" he mutters taking s drink of his water

I stood beside him at the counter "I'm working"

"I'm busy"

"Doing what"

"Nothing you need to know"

"Grayson"

"Emma"

"I can't bring the baby to work, how would I be able to explain that"

"Well I can't either"

"I swear if it's a booty call"

"And you'd need to know that why?"

I break the eye contact and turn toward the sink "dumbass"

I got back to the dorm at four. I had a little under and hour to spare before I had to leave for work so I decided to have a quick shower to wash away all the stresses of the day

If happened to be a warm day so I decided to wear some cycling shorts and a cropped sweatshirt. I put my hair into a messy ponytail before walking out of the bathroom

The sound of a crying baby is first to hit my ears. I walk further into the room to see Grayson scrolling through his phone on his bed while the baby is thrown on mine

"I hate you" I say picking Kayla up

"That shit has been crying in every class" he throws his phone on his bed "so if you even think of getting me to bring it with me I'm leaving it here"

I roll my eyes "there's been babies crying in every class Grayson, it's all part of it"

"Still not taking it"

"I'm working"

"I don't care"

And he didn't. So I ended up having to bring the stupid toy to work. Having to explain to my boss and my clients for personal training sessions why I had a battery powered baby that wouldn't stop crying with me was less than pleasant

"I'm sorry about this again" I said to the woman I was currently training as the baby started making crying noises for the tenth time since I'd started to demonstrate a new workout

The brunette laughed "it's ok sweetie, I know what it's like to be in university" she smiles "and have kids" she breaths out the last part

"You've kids?" I say putting the baby down and getting back into a squat position

I can see her smile through the mirror. She nods "Two. My oldest girl is six and youngest is two"

I smile "you want anymore?"

She laughs "maybe but then I'll have to start all of this working out again"

I only had two pt sessions that I actually had to do and once they were finished my boss came up to me a sympathetic look on her face

"I know your shift doesn't end for another few hours but" she nods toward the baby in my arms "your 'baby daddy' wasn't exactly the nicest so I think we can manage the rest of the night without you"

I smile at her "you're a lifesaver"

I walk towards the locker rooms to grab my stuff. I was beyond sick of the strange looks I was getting so I left Kayla in the staff room for when I was leaving

I was walking past one of the boxing rooms but stopped when a sense of deja vù came over me

"Seriously Grayson what are you going to do?" A voice said from inside the room

I walked towards the large square window that was slightly opened. The white blinds were down and closed but a few were broken on the left side meaning I could just about see into the room

There was yet again a group of four maybe five boys standing in the room. Most of them surrounding the ring, Grayson was standing in the boxing ring, shirtless and a less muscular boy around our age was standing the opposite side

Grayson hit the red boxing gloves he was wearing together "I've no idea"

"You're going to have to do something about her man" another one piped up

Her?

"Unless you want to tell her?"

"I'm not getting her involved in this" Grayson snaps

I had three options..... just walk away like a normal person, continue to listen and see what's up with him or confront him for leaving me with the baby

.......I went for the latter

The room was a private boxing room but I an employee had the privilege of knowing the code to said private rooms

The door opening caused all eyes to turn to me. All eyes were wide expect for a certain brown pair belonging to my roommate

"What are you doing here Emma" he crosses his arms after taking off the boxing gloves, his face hard

"That's your roommate" one of them gasps causing another one to hit him

"What are you doing here Grayson" I mimic his actions

Grayson rolls his eyes before stepping out of the ring, making it look easier than anyone I've seen attempt it doing it

He grabs my wrist and pulls me out of the room. He pulls me into one of the empty changing rooms letting go of my wrist like he's just touched fire

"What the hell don't you understand about stay out of it" Grayson shouts

I cross my arms tilting my head to look at him

"Seriously, you can't do one thing"

"I can't do one thing?" I raise my brow at him my voice matching the same level as his "you cant tell me about what you're doing half the time and then you make me take that stupid baby to work because you have something to do....."

"And guess what?"

"What?" He answers my rhetorical question a smug grin on his face that's only making me angrier

"You can't tell me what your doing" he laughs only winding me up even more "Seriously Grayson, your at the gym for god knows what reason probably just messing around and you couldn't take the baby. I looked like an idiot with it while I was working"

"And then all you say is stay out of it like I know what I'm supposed to be staying out of" I ramble "well news flash, it's hard to stay out of whatever I'm supposed to be staying out of"

By the time I was finished rambling Grayson had a full fledged smirk plastered on his face "Are you done yet?"

I huff pacing around the small room before stopping again "I hate you"

I drop my arms loosening up "you're confusing"

"How?"

"A minute ago you were shouting at me for not staying out of it and now your laughing"

"Princess if I tell you to stay out of it, you're only going to do the opposite" he runs a hand through his hair "but that doesn't mean I'm going to tell you what I'm doing"

I cross my arms "just so you know your taking the baby for the rest of the night and until we give it back tomorrow"

Grayson gives me a mock salute before we go our separate ways

I got back to the university a little while later. Clare had text me to tell me that her and the girls would be waiting for me at the cafeteria for our weekly catchup

"Hey" I say sitting down beside Patricia and putting Kayla on the table

All four of us had our 'babies' with us

"I feel like I haven't seen you in ages" Maddie comments

"Tell me about it" I sigh "I feel like we're all so busy lately"

"We definitely need to fix that" Patricia adds

"So what have I missed?" Maddie asks

And just like that everything went back to normal, stresses were all forgotten about, the babies hardly made any noise and we spent our time gossiping and luckily I wouldn't have it any other way
