12. CAMERAS
カメラ

CATHRYN GROANED LOUDLY, throwing her head forward and hitting the back of the driver's seat. "i should've known that ice cream was a bribe." she muttered angrily. "hey, watch the car! i'm the one who's going to have to pay if anything happens to darryl's baby." lia warned, looking back through the rearview mirror.

"fuck darryl." cathryn replied. "just tell him toni did it and he'll shut up." she grunted out. "oh yeah, he does have a thing for her." hodan nodded. "shut up, blackmailer." cathryn glared at her.

"dramatic." kash snorted, checking out her new hair colour in the vanity mirror in the sun visor. a smile lifted her lips, fingers tracing the honey blonde locks.

"blackmailer?" hodan gasped, leaning back. "yes! you're the one who's going to study photography, why do i always have to take pictures of you?" cathryn frowned. "because i need them for my blog and you're literally the only person who takes decent pictures."

"wow, do go on. it's not like the rest of us have feelings or anything like that." lia interjected drily, her blank expression visible in the mirror.

"mental reminder never to take pictures of hodan." kash mumbled, sliding the vanity mirror shut. "that's not what i meant." hodan replied with a roll of her eyes. "the boat's already sunk, ho." lia expertly made a turn that would lead to hodan's impromptu 'photoshoot' location.

"we're here." lia announced, stopping in front of the large building aesthetically painted in primary colours. it was right down hodan's alley and always closed on the weekends.

it was right across the street from a movie theatre, which was how she had discovered it and it soon became one of her prime locations for taking pictures of people, things or herself.

all four girls stepped out of the car, cathryn still complaining about hodan taking advantage of her. ignoring their banter, lia and kash looked towards the cinema.

"think we should go watch a movie while brandon woelfel and naomi campbell work?" kash glanced at her. shooting a glance behind her to see hodan pulling her camera out of its bag, lia shook her head. "we'll never hear the end of it if we did." she leaned against the car, hands in the pockets of her loose fit shorts.

kash sighed heavily, turning away from the street to look at her friends. hodan was setting up her camera while cathryn impatiently waited, mumbling about how the ice cream wasn't worth the stress. "true," she nodded. "i don't know who'd complain more."

"i can already hear them chastising us. 'it's the principle of it. you don't ditch friends to do something that you should do together. real friends who value friendship don't do that.'" lia's lips quirked up as she perfectly envisioned hodan's mouth forming those words.

kash laughed, joining in on the jibe. "'i can't believe you guys actually ditched us. and you even watched the incredibles two without me after we all promised to watch it together! does my friendship even mean anything to you?'"

lia snorted. "they're great. imagine our lives without them." she let her hand run through her dark locks. "yikes, i'd rather not. imagine the mediocrity." kash made a face. lia shot her a look. "why do you always have to use big ass words?"

"how is mediocrity a big ass word?" kash propped her hand on her hips. "you could've just said boring yanno." lia pointed out. "yeah but that's so boring." the recent blonde responded. "smart ass." lia scoffed, glancing back to see what their friends were now up to.

cathryn was crouched down, trying to take a shot of hodan from below. "wow, great behind the camera and in front of it. a multi talented queen." she remarked as she clicked the button.

kash and lia let out amused laughter. "weren't they just fighting a minute ago?" kash rested her chin on the roof of the car. "the push and pull between them, i swear to god." lia shook her head.

lia simply listened to her two friends make light conversation and laugh, hyping themselves up, as she watched people across the street. a small smile lifted her lips at the sounds.

she only turned when she felt a tap on her shoulder. kash gestured towards their friends. "ho," she whispered. lia twisted around to find the girl gesturing for them to come closer. "i want to take pictures of you guys!"

"for what?" lia asked sceptically. "for my blog. and also for memories. you know how important those are." hodan swiftly replied.

sighing softly, lia pushed herself off the side of the car and followed kash who was already approaching the building.
