Chapter 7: On the Hunt

Ox's POV

"Ughhhhhh I'm so bored. Are they ever going to show?" Neon whined for the third time.

I grunted and poked around the grilled peppers on my plate. I'd hoped their food would taste better than the cleaning fluid they called beer but was sadly disappointed.

Neon made another sound of impatience, and I raised my head to look at her.

In her Leone Sand disguise, she'd ditched her sky-blue tank top, colorful pins, and much to her displeasure, her roller blades. Instead, she wore a black tube top and tan shorts held up by a brown belt, which held two sheathed daggers on her hips.

My Damon Blackbird disguise was closer to my normal style. Large black jacket over a blood red shirt, black cargo pants, black gloves, and a pair of black boots that had to be altered to fit over my hooves and let me be able to walk and run. I left Umbra and my knife with the twins, only keeping Retaliation to further separate Damon from Ox.

I checked my scroll. "They're only fifteen minutes late Leone. Be patient."

Leone/Neon crossed her arms and pouted.

I sighed. I understood where she was coming from. We'd been in Mantle for six days, looking for any way to get in with Peridots. The White Fang rally had been a bust, though we did learn that the Peridots had been excommunicated from the White Fang for being too zealous.

From there, we spent five days hunting down leads until the right words hit the right ears and got us a meeting with the Peridots at a bar called The Rundown, which was perhaps the most fitting name I could imagine.

"Heads up" I said as I saw two hooded figures walk in. One's head scanned the room before settling on us and both figures made their way towards us.

"Bout time"

The two figures sat down in the empty chairs at our table and lowered their hoods.

"Sorry we're late" Cinna Peridot said with a grin. "My husband takes forever to get ready."

Codiak just grunted, his scared face a mask of indifference.

"So, we've heard you two have been looking for us." Cinna said before producing a scroll from her pocket.

"Damon Blackbird and Leone Sand. From Mistral. Quite the record. Multiple counts of Assault, Destruction of Property, Robbery, and my personal favorite, the destruction of five business with ties to Anti-Faunus groups. There's a hundred thousand lien bounty on each of your heads." She said, closing the scroll.

"So, with all that being said, what brings the two of you to our fair kingdom?"

I shrugged. "Too much heat in Mistral. Besides everyone's consolidating near Haven because of increased amounts of Grimm. Hard for a couple of honest thieves like us to make a living."

Cinna laughed at that. "I like you. So why'd you seek us out?"

"Heard about you awhile back. Burnt down a hospital, took seventy-five people with it. Got to admire a thing like that. Anyone willing to do that sounds like our kind of people." I said, trying to choke down the repulsion I felt.

Cinna smiled liked she was recalling a fond memory. "Ah such fun. And so so pretty." She said with obvious zeal.

"Went to a White Fang rally to track you down, but they said you were excommunicated. Something about being too zealous."

Leone/Neon snorted. "Bunch of cowards."

Cinna smiled and turned to her husband. "I like them."

Codiak gave one short, stiff nod.

"Well they were right. They felt that we were too extreme in our methods. So we found some like minded individuals and formed our own organization."

She pushed back her cloak to reveal a uniform similar to the White Fangs, but in a dark red. "I never liked the name White Fang. It's too pristine. A white fang is a fang that hasn't been used yet. We call ourselves the Blood Fangs, for our fangs run red with human blood."

I forced myself to smile. "Sounds like fun."

Third Person POV

Vale

The first thing she did when arriving at her safe house was to check the security system to make sure it was untouched, which it was.

With that out of the way, she walked over to the computer terminal and pulled up the files she had hacked from the Beacon servers.

Her main target had disappeared, so she had to resort to her secondary targets. Her main target had a sister, two teammates, a dad, and an uncle.

She went down the list.

Target: Ruby Rose. Current Location: Unknown

Sister: Yang Xiao Long. Current Location: Patch Island.

Father: Taiyang Xaio Long. Current Location: Patch Island

Uncle: Qrow Branwen. Current Location: Unknown

Teammate: Weiss Schnee. Current Location: Atlas

Teammate: Blake Belladonna. Current Location: Unknown

She scowled. None of them seemed like good targets. Half of them were missing and of the ones she could locate, none were appealing. The Schnee girl would be in her family's mansion under lock and key and probably guard. Too many risk factors involved in trying to kill her.

As for the Xiao Longs, the last time she tried to kill the older sister, that Branwen witch had appeared out nowhere and about done her in. She didn't want to take the chance of invoking her wrath by going after her daughter and ex-husband.

She scrolled through Ozpin's private files and found something interesting. Ruby and Yang had an unofficial brother. Ox Cobalt.

She winced. She'd fought him before and would have killed him had he not gotten lucky and grabbed her. A rematch would help mend her wounded pride.

She looked through more of the files to see where he was. According to the files, he and his team had been transferred to Shade Academy in Vacuo. That was doable. She had a lot of contacts in Vacuo and a few bolt holes she could hide in.

She frowned as she noticed that the Shade transport didn't have Cobalt's name on the passenger list. But according to Ozpin's files, it did have his girlfriend, Velvet Scarlatina.

She finally had a lead to hunt down and get her revenge on the bitch who cost her the only other person she ever cared about. For the first time in months, Neopolitan smiled.
