9: Secrecy

“Dude?! What the hell?!” I said. My voice was a mix between a whisper and yell.

“Girl! Why are you whisper-yelling at me? What did I do to you?” Steven said.

“Oh, you know exactly what you did, Martinez!” I snarled

“Uh, no. I don’t! And, don’t call me by my last name.” Steven said. “What did I do?!”

“You broke our truce!” I snapped.

“What? What ‘truce’ are you talking about?” Steven says.

“Remember?! I told you that I had a crush on Austin and you promised not to tell him! And here we are! Austin knows about my crush and now he probably hates me!” I snapped. I was honestly about to cry.

“Oh… That. I didn’t tell him anything!” Steven says.

“Really? I heard your conversation with Austin. You said that you’ll get her next time. Who was ‘her’ in that?” I asked.

“You.” Steven said

I blushed. How could they have been talking about me if Austin didn’t know how I felt? “Well, how would this conversation make any sense if you didn’t tell Austin our secret then?!” I snapped.

“I can’t tell you that. I swore to secrecy and I can’t break Austin’s trust!” Steven says.

“But I swore you to secrecy too!” I said. “And you chose him over me?! I can’t believe you!”

“Trust me when I say that this will all be worth it in the end.” Steven said.

“Oh, f*** off!” I said. I was done. I was about to grab the very little stuff I had left over from when I first got to Austin’s house, pack it all up and leave.

Austin was just minding his own business when I stormed into the room, crashed onto the bed and screamed into the pillow. I thought I had just been ratted out by someone who I was supposed to trust. Austin clearly noticed something was wrong. He turned around and lay down on the bed. He listened to me screaming and sobbing into the pillow for the next hour, rubbing my back and probably saying ‘hey, it’s okay, let it all out’ or something like that. He’s just a wholesome idiot who didn’t know what just happened so I’m just guessing that’s what was going on. I eventually stopped crying, turned around and saw Austin laying at my side.

“Eep!” I squeaked.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Did I scare you?” Austin said.

“No,” I sniffled. “I’m sorry I barged in like that, I was just so mad.”

“Mad at what?” Austin asked.

“Steven told you my secret.” I said, still occasionally sniffling.

“Oh, so that’s what you two were yelling about.” Austin said.

“Yeah.” I said. “Wait, you know my secret?”

“No. You were lucky enough that I wasn’t paying attention to that part.” Austin said.

“Phew,” I sighed. “Thank you god!” I exclaimed, throwing my hands up in the air which caused Austin and I to giggle.

We both then heard a knock at the door. “Amberly, are you in there?” I heard a voice call out. And, as was expected,  it was Mr. Steven Martinez.

I rolled my eyes. “Yes," I said, "are you coming to apologize?” I sort of shouted.

“Depends, will you apologize for telling me to f off?” Steven shouted back.

"You said what?" Austin said with surprise.

"You don't need to know." I said playfully.

"Hello?" Steven shouted from the other side of the door. "Are you gonna apologize or is this gonna be one of those things that goes on until god knows when? Your choice Amberly!" He continued.

“Ugh, I guess.” I said, I rolled my eyes.

Austin laughed. Which I thought meant that he was ticked. I knew he was Christian but I remembered that he wasn't that kind of Christian.

“So, which of you is gonna apologize first?” Austin asks.

“I guess I will.” I said. “Steven, I’m sorry that I overreacted and told you to f off.”

“I accept your apology and I’m sorry that I valued Austin’s secret over yours and made you think that I’d rat you out.” Steven says.

“I accept your apology.” I said holding my hand out for a handshake. Steven goes to shake my hand and I pull my hand back kinda doing the motion that Austin does when he pushes back his hair. You know what I mean.

“Wow!” Steven says sarcastically. “We’re really playing that way huh?”

“Yep!” I said. I sprung myself off the bed and started running after Steven. Austin just gave us a ‘typical them’ kind of look and chased after us.

(A/N: this is the first and probably only time that I'm going to write angst for this fic besides the breakups, if ever again. I hated writing this chapter the most but I thought that this story wouldn't make sense without at least a little bit of angst between Steven and Amberly. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and I'll see you guys soon.)
