Jeongin • The King and Queen of Trot

Another one that is just my own idea - hope it's okay!

"How do I look?" You asked your friend Emily, modelling the dress for her.

She gave you a big thumbs up, "Hot!"

"Shush, don't say things like that." You felt yourself blush red, so much so that you turned away so she wouldn't see.

"I'm just stating the truth."

The last couple of months, you had spent inside of JYP practicing your dancing nonstop without going out too much. You couldn't help it, you were an introvert and going outside, truth be told, was incredibly scary for you.

Emily, your fellow band mate, hadn't been happy about your lack of a social life and you had begun to feel bad. Whenever she would invite you out, you always had some excuse for her. It made you feel like a bad friend.

Today was your eighteenth birthday and there was no possible way that you could say no when she invited you out, no matter how bad your social anxiety was. So, you were being dragged to your birthday party and there was nothing you could do to say no.

In one way, that was incredibly flattering. She, and others, had cared enough to organise an entire party just for you but, on the other hand, it was absolutely terrifying. All attention would be on you.

Have fun, Y/N, just try to have fun!

"Are we ready to go?" She asked you.

"Just one second, let me get my coat."

You rushed into your closet, rummaging around until you found your colourful, puffy jacket and threw it on. While in the closet, you heard Emily speak but it was muffled, so you couldn't really hear.

"What did you say?" You asked, zipping up the coat.

"I said that Jeongin will be there-"

"Excuse me?!" You exclaimed, suddenly feeling all the social anxiety bubble up inside you even worse now. "Why would you invite him?"

"Because you think he's cute. Plus, it's your birthday so he has to talk to you!"

You rolled your eyes at that. "I don't want to talk to him. I'm a complete chicken. I'll just...stutter and say stupid things. I'll totally embarrass myself."

"I know you will-"

"Hey!"

"But," She added, "It's cute when you do that. He'll love you and, if he doesn't, he's an idiot."

You felt a million different ways about this news. Of course, terrified and filled to the brim with anxiety but part of you was hopeful. For so long, you had been watching Jeongin and his band. You were such a big fan of them, they were so cool!

Going to the same company, you had talked to them before but never directly to Jeongin. From the moment you saw him, your crush on him had began to grow and grow until now it felt like you would never like anyone else this much.

Maybe it will go well...who knows.

•••

The drive to the place wasn't by any means a long one but it seemed to fly by faster than it should have. You spent the entire time fidgeting with your hands and trying to control your breathing as you pictured the night ahead.

You had been nervous enough at the idea of having to face a party full of people but Emily had thrown in the extra hurdle of inviting the boy you liked. Maybe we won't even talk, you thought to yourself, but then felt saddened. Of course, you wanted to talk to him but whether or not that would happen depended entirely on your social anxiety.

Who knows, you thought, maybe I'll get a sudden surge of confidence and be able to actually talk to him. That made you smile in a sad way, you knew that wouldn't happen.

You felt the car pull to a halt, looking back out the window to find you were already here. The journey felt like seconds. All your anxiety levels shot up, you felt yourself shake from it but you also felt Emily take your hand.

"I know this isn't easy for you. I'm really proud that you even agreed to this. If it gets to much, let me know and I'll get you out of there. Okay?"

Knowing you had her support and an out if you needed it helped a little. You wanted to be able to do this, so you'd try your hardest.

"Okay," you said back to her, squeezing her hand. "Thank you."

"No problemo, shall we go in or do you need a minute?"

"A quick minute."

"Quick minute it is."

She waited patiently for you to prepare yourself, seeming happy enough to. It helped: knowing you didn't need to rush yourself and that she would help you as much as possible.

If I'm ever to be an idol, I need to learn to face my fear, you thought to yourself. You let out a deep breath you didn't even notice you were holding.

"I'm ready."

You both got out of the car, heading up to the building where your party was. As much as you tried to hide it, the nerves were still there but you were doing a good job of hiding it.

You walked in the door and everyone suddenly cheered. The amount of people here was far more than you expected, so many trainees had shown up! Of course, the anxiety rose up at the sight of so many people but there was also a part of you that felt excited and happy. This many people showed up to celebrate your birthday.

I'm sure most are here for the free food but still.

You were greeted by so many people, all saying hello and happy birthday, hugs and kisses on the cheeks. It was exhausting but luckily it went by pretty fast. That is, until you reached the members of Stray Kids.

Everything seemed to slow down then, as you spotted Jeongin and you knew at least you would have to say hello to him and at most a hug. I might faint from nerves...
The first to hug you was Chan, followed by Changbin who both cheered happy birthday at the same time.

Chan knew of your anxiety, seeming to examine you to make sure you were okay. As you hugged Minho, you heard Chan ask how you were feeling.

"Okay," You lied, your voice sounding far more breathy than you had meant it to. "A bit out of breathe!"

You were then tightly hugged by Jisung, who swung you from side to side and cheered happy birthday so loud in your ear you thought you may go death.

"Nice to see you too, Jisung!" You said, laughing at his enthusiasm.

One by one, the other members hugged you and said happy birthday until you finally reached Jeongin. He gave you a goofy smile, the sight of your braces made you smile too - he just looked so cute!

It made you suddenly feel lost and helpless, like your mind had gone completely blank and all you could stutter out was a weak, "Hi."

"Y/N, happy birthday!" He cheered, pulling you into a hug but was far more gentle than Jisung had been.

"T-thanks, Jeongin." Stop stuttering, Y/N!

"You look really good," He told you as he pulled away from the hug.

What do I say? What do I say-

"That's what I said," Emily cut in, giving you a reassuring smile. She knew that you were nervous and had been nice enough to help you out. "I really like her hair. Don't you?"

Emily, the master of make up and hair, had been the one to get you ready for this party. She had done a good job, especially on the hair, you couldn't deny that.

"Yeah, it looks really..." He let out a nervous laugh and awkward scratched the back of his neck. "I like it, yeah."

He seems nervous...does he like me back? He couldn't possibly! You smiled to yourself at that thought but decided not to let yourself dwell on it too long. If you got your hopes up too high, there was a chance they'd fall back down.

"Why don't we all sit together?" Emily suggested with a big silly grin, giving you a not so hidden wink.

You all took a seat inside of the large booth, Emily sitting at one side of you and Jeongin at the other. This made you feel so incredibly trapped. You could hardly breathe and you started feeling so clausophobic.

God save me!

"Hey, Ems, is that and karaoke machine?" Changbin asked, pointing to the stage in the room where there was indeed a karaoke machine.

"Yeah, the guy who owns this place said we're free to use it-"

"Felix, lets go!" Changbin yelled, cutting Emily off before she could even finish. He and Felix ran up to the stage, sounding giddy as children on Christmas. It made you smile.

It didn't take long before they had set up the karaoke and were singing dance the night away while other idols and trainees cheered, sang along and had a good time.

Felix was good at dancing it, really good at dancing it and after a while Changbin stopped trying and just watched Felix with a big goofy smile on his face, cheering on with the rest of the audience. When it was done, there was a lot of chatter at the table over who should go up next.

They pointed at each other, suggesting songs that the other members could possibly sing and it was a mess until Emily pitched in.

"Why doesn't Jeongin and Y/N go up?" She said loudly, everyone at the table went silent for a moment.

They all got this smile, one that made you suddenly aware that they knew that you liked Jeongin. Am I that obvious?

"I don't know-"

"Come on, Y/N, it'll be fun!" Jeongin said, smiling cheerfully at you.

That smile...how can I say no?

"O-okay then."

To your surprise, he took your hand in his and led you up towards the stage. All this was happening far too quickly. Your anxiety had been doing good but now you were about to go on stage and sing in front of everyone.

You halted in your tracks, Jeongin stopping too and looking back at you with a look of confusion on his face.

"Y/N?"

"I don't...I-I don't think I can do this."

He came closer to you, squeezing your hand reassuringly. "If you don't want to, we can go back to the table but...wouldn't it be fun to sing karaoke with me?"

That made you feel so frustrated because you really wanted to sing with him but the anxiety was stopping it from happening. You hated that.

"Yes..."

"Why don't we try? If it gets too much, we can go off. How does that sound?"

"It sounds...good, yeah."

He led you up to the stage, heading over to the karaoke machine and began selecting a song. You were now on stage, everyone watching you - from up here, it looked so incredibly crowded. It was absolutely terrifying.

Luckily, Jeongin came back quickly, microphone held out for you to take. "You'll be okay," He mouthed to you.

You repeated his words over and over again in your head as you attempted to calm yourself.

"Just pretend they aren't there. It's just me and you, in a little living room just singing some karaoke by ourselves."

With that, you tried to forget that the audience was there and just focus on Jeongin. Surprisingly, it worked pretty well. The song began up and you laughed as you realised what it was: a trot song.

"I can't believe you picked this!" You yelled, it getting muffled over the sound of the audience cheering.

He began to sing, of course having a perfect trot singing voice. You waited for your turn, feeling the nerves spike up. It came to your part and you began to do your best trot voice, which wasn't actually too bad. Good enough that the audience cheered loudly.

You felt Jeongin take your hand, meeting your eyes. It helped melt away the audience, until it felt like it was just you two.

You were having so much fun you really did forget that the audience was even there, before you knew it the song was over and you were heading back to your seats. Jeongin was still holding your hand, he hadn't let go. Even when you sat down, his hand was still in yours.

"You did so good!"

"Y/N, you didn't say you could trot sing!"

"IN looked so cute-"

"-they both looked so cute together."

"The King and Queen of Trot!" Emily announced, the rest of the group cheering in agreement.

You and Jeongin blushed and looked away at that, him squeezing your hand slightly as if a way to communicate with you.

The King and Queen of Trot...I like that!

These one shots are all turning out pretty long. I thought this one would be short as hell like 500 words or something but before I knew it, 2000 words! Hopefully it didn't drag out ♡

Anyway, don't be a silent reader! Let me know what you're thinking in the comments or even just by voting. Either would mean the world ♡
