Chapter 20

I watch in fear as I think my life is about to end. But somehow the bullet flies past my ear and hits my uncle right in the heart.

I look around to see surprise in everyone's eyes except for Christopher's. He's smiling sadly.

"I was right." He chokes out. "I knew something was between you two."

I glare at him understanding what he is saying. "Oh, Erica." He says with a smirk. "You are in for a lot of trouble. But I'll help you right now."

Right as he says that the roof starts to cave in. I try to run out safely, but the falling chunks of cement and glass are stopping me from following my friends.

I turn around to see Joshua, Ashley, Murray, and Dane fleeing the room on one end. On the other side, Ben, Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Mike, and Zoe are running out the door. Only Christopher and I remain in the crumbling room.

My uncle smiles at me. "Take care of each other. You have lost now, but you can defeat that backstabbing cockroach. But you guys are stronger as a team. I have a message for all of your friends. Please deliver it for me. First, to Ben. Stay strong. You might go into the hardest part of your life but keep trusting those you love. Your brain will know when something isn't right. For Dad, I left because I would never be enough for you. And looking at it now, no one will ever be enough for you. To truly become the best spy you can be, you must learn to trust others. To Alex, my ghost will come and murder you in your sleep. To Catherine, don't re-marry that stupid guy. He's not worth it. You are too good for him. And finally, to you, you are strong, but to beat Joshua you must face your feelings. You must face him head on. You are the only one who knows his weakness. Use it. Even if it could hurt you.

With that he smiles and lays down. I turn to run when I see Ben at the door. He's coming towards me, trying to protect me. I start to make my way over to him when the building explodes. Literally, like the giant skyscraper just fell. I tried to stay ok during the explosion, but I felt myself blacking out.

When I open my eyes again, I can't even believe I'm in the same place I was before. All around me are the ruins of the building. I throw a piece of concrete off of me and try to make sense of the situation I'm in. I try to look for the others, but I can't seem to find them.

After making a few laps around the rubble, I see my mom. I run up to her but see that she is distracted. I look at the phone that she is on and see Joshua, Murray, Dane, Ashley, and Warren surrounded by the leaders of every country in the world. And they are all bowing, giving up their power. And just like that, my old friends, boyfriend, and enemies have become the rulers of the world.

One more chapter after this. Thanks for reading! My next book will come out in a month or so. It will be a sequel to this. Hope you enjoyed!
