Chapter Five

I don't know how many days have passed with little human interaction other than when a blond woman throws a chicken or two in. It's the best part of the day, ending the desire for flesh for a few minutes or so, at least when I can get some. I'm slowly forgetting my human life and the people in it. Soon I won't remember anything; I'll just be an empty shell that used to be a person. Today however our routine was changed up a little. We received the chickens like usual but today there were loads of people outside the barn. One banged on the doors which really wound up the others around here. I'm the only child in this place so it gets a little lonely. They all get excited over the littlest of things that could result in food whereas I hang back. The people were outside, no way they would come in and let us eat them.

The banging on the doors stopped and left us in silence once more. It didn't stop the others from congregating around the door though, the chicken wasn't really all that filling for me and I'm smaller than them so I guess they are really hungry and desperate for anything they can get their hands on. They weren't wrong though, the people came back this time shouting around. This time though the doors were opened causing the others to pile out of the barn one after the other, even as the gun shots sounded, they were desperate for food.

I didn't follow them out to begin with, the gun shots indicated that I would just be shot. I wasn't free to roam around and eat things at my leisure. But the thing was they were just going to come in here and kill me anyway so why did I hang back. I might as well brave it and go outside. I might as well feel the sunlight on my face one more time before I die. Before someone ends my miserable after life as a walker. I walked towards where the door had been opened and took a step into the light. It burnt to begin with but I soon adjusted and took another step out taking in the surroundings.

"SOPHIA!!!!!!"

I heard a scream from my right and looked to see my mother being held back by no other than the redneck that didn't seem all that friendly. He was stopping her from getting to me. I felt thankful to him, I loved my mother but my new self would rip into her flesh without hesitation. They were all alive and found refuge, I kept walking towards Rick who was holding a gun to my head. I wanted him to end my miserable life, I didn't want to be a flesh-eating monster anymore.

I didn't hear much of the gun shot before I felt the pain rush through my head and my vision going to black. I suppose some of us were just not meant for this world, but I sure hope that my mum and best friend were made for this new world and go on to live much longer than I have. I was never a survivor, but they are.
