Chapter 4

It was that time of year again. Valentine's Day was tomorrow, and he hated it. It had been almost 3 months and he still hadn't gotten over Taylor. He'd heard she'd been dumped by her precious John. After being steamrolled with the sudden breakup, he'd learned of her rumored one-night stand with the singer-songwriter. Taylor knew his (now ex-) girlfriend. She was a romantic at heart, and the thrill of the forbidden older man must have enticed her to cheat. The princess wasn't so innocent, now was she?  He dreaded seeing her that night at the premiere of the movie but most of alI, he dreaded seeing himself kissing her at the height of their happiness. It would break his already broken heart into even more fragmented pieces.

He wearily walked down the red carpet, already ready for this movie to be over and it hadn't even started yet. Reporters crowded around him, "Taylor!" "Won't this be awkward?!" "Did you hear Taylor moved on?!" The last question hit him hard and he turned stiffly to the paparazzi, "The relationship was shortlived, I would assume that she had moved on by now. I certainly have." With a stiff, close-lipped smile, he continued down to his seat. He knew this would be a long night.

*****************************************************************************************************That had been such an awkward night, Taylor thought. He snapped back to attention when he heard Taylor's name. She was a nominee for the award being presented, Choice Female Artist.  He leaned forward a little bit. "And the winner is........TAYLOR SWIFT!" He let a half smile slip at the announcement, she definitely deserved it.

She couldn't believe it! Not only had she won but Taylor had actually smiled at the fact. Sure, it wasn't his trademark grin, but it was a start.  Honestly, she never would've thought he would ever smile at her again after what she put him through. She hurried up the stage, hoping he didn't notice how she had been openly gawking at him.

Taylor was so excited! Her album Speak Now was about to be released and it was her most personal album yet. She had written every lyric of every song on the album. It was like revealing her diary to the world by releasing it. In fact, many of the songs were about Taylor and the various stages of their relationship. She'd written the catchy singles, Mine and Ours, about the love and happiness she had felt during the honeymoon stage of dating him. Though Last Kiss was actually written to her other ex, Joe Jonas, she still felt it applied to Taylor in some ways. The song she was most nervous about sharing was Back To December, an ode to the way things had ended. The apology song she had spent months working on. Scott had been mad that it had taken five months to write; he had been pushing for a May release for the album. It had taken almost a solid two years to write and produce the whole album, with memories preserved in song for her fans and haters alike to hear. They would hear the song of forgiveness to Kanye West, the song about John taking her innocence, the song about her lust for John during those few days when she thought so much of him, the song about her delight in meeting a nameless stranger who she hoped to one day marry, and the song about the haunted feeling she had when remembering the relationship she destroyed for a fantasy. They would hear the lighthearted title song, and a song to her critics. Taylor couldn't wait.

She sat in the back corner of the cafe, working out a melody. Even though she was basking in the success of Speak Now, the words were always flowing and it was always good to write it down for the next album. Hard at work, she didn't notice the shadow towering over her. "Hi." She jumped at the familiar voice. "Taylor! Um, hi." She was cautious, for though he seemed calm, she had no idea how to handle the situation. "I heard the song." His voice was flat and disinterested. "Really? I would've said it differently but I couldn't reach you and-" She said hopefully before he cut her off coldly, "I don't appreciate the airing of our dirty laundry to the public, Taylor. You may have meant well but it's been almost a year. Move on." He was controlling the anger, she could tell. "I'm sorry. I wrote the song to tell you I'm sorry and that I miss you, that I miss us." She looked up at him pleadingly.

"Maybe you should've thought about that when you cheated on me with a playboy who didn't care about you. But I guess you figured that out after he skipped out on you after getting in your pants. It's too late for your apologies. I've gotten over it, and over you." He stalked out after yelling the last bit at her. Tears formed as she sat there, shell shocked from his harsh, emotionless words.
