Chapter 08

"Thank you, Mr. Arora, we will see you this afternoon"

Arnav concluded the phone conversation with their family lawyer and then he called Akash to his cabin.

"Arnav, what happened?"

"Bhai, I am going to call Di now and we'll talk"

Saying that he called Anjali and put her on speaker.

"Di, Mr. Arora wants three of us and Khushi at his office this afternoon"

"Did you tell Akash about this Arnav?"

"He is here with me Di"

"Ok, what time he wants us there, and what it is regarding?"

"It's about Advay's will. Di, Akash bhai will come and pick you up. I will pick Khushi up and will meet you two there"

"Otherwise, I can ask Shyam to drop me off. Why bother Akash"

Arnav signaled Akash to talk.

"No no Di, I have to come home anyway so I will pick you up"

"And Di, don't bother Jiju with all these yet. We can let him know when he is home tonight"

Saying that Arnav disconnected the call.

"Arnav, why did you stop Di from coming with Jiju and why didn't you want him to know about the will yet?"

"Bhai, I don't think Jiju is who is seems to be. There is something about him"

Then Arnav explained the whole conversation he had with Shyam about Khushi.

"It was so weird bhai. He seems to be a little too obsessed with making sure Khushi is out of the house"

"I found that too Arnav. Remember that day he was so keen on knowing how are we going to fund her and what happens if she remarry"

"I know, that's why I thought, for the time being, we should keep things from him"

Akash left the office a little early to pick up Anjali. Arnav finished all his pending work and left the office around 3. They do not need to be at the lawyer's office until 4.30. But he wanted to go and check up on Khushi to know who she is meeting after lectures today.

"Khushi, leave the bag with me, I'll wait here. You go and meet him. Take your time"

"Are you Lavanya? I mean, if you want to go, you can"

"No, no, that's fine. You go and meet him, I will wait here. All the best"

Khushi left her bag with Lavanya and headed towards the meeting room. She forgot that her phone was also inside the bag.

Arnav reached the campus, parked his car, and texted Khushi.

"I am here, we need to go somewhere so come out now"

Usually, she responds to his texts either by replying or running toward the car. But today, as he expected neither happened and it was been over 10 mins. Furious was an understatement to describe his mode. He jumped out of the car and walked towards the campus. This time instead of texting her, he called her.

Lavanya who had Khushi's bag ignored the message tone but when she heard to constant ringing she couldn't ignore it anymore. She took the phone out of the bag and saw who is calling.

"Hel...."

"Where the hell are you Khushi?"

"Hello"

"Hello, who is this?"

"Hi Mr. Arnav, this Lavanya here. Khushi's friend"

"Hello, can you pass the phone to her?"

"Umm, she is not here"

"What do you mean she is not there? Where is she then?"

Arnav's heart was beating harder than he could ever imagine. So she left her phone so that no one can disturb her.

"Actually, she..."

"Where the hell are you now?"

"I am at the campus but the Atrium entrance"

"Ok, wait I am coming there in a second"

Even before Lavanya disconnected the call, she saw Arnav rushing towards her.

"Hello, Mr. Arnav, nice to meet you. I am Lavanya"

"Nice to meet you too. Where is she?"

"She is in a meeting"

"A meeting, at this time?"

"Actually dean Singhania wanted to meet her to discuss some scholarship opportunities. She had lectured the whole day so that's why they are meeting now"

"So she is meeting with the dean?"

"Yes, who else"

Arnav felt the sudden relief inside his body. So she is not meeting any guy, but the dean to discuss the same scholarship opportunities he discussed with the dean a few days ago.

Ever since Arnav figured out Khushi is having financial difficulties he wanted to help her. But knowing Khushi, he knew she would never take money from them.

Anjali and Payal had paid for the first semester and offered to pay for the rest but Khushi only allowed them to pay for the first semester only. She was adamant that she will fund herself for the rest of the years.

Therefore, Arnav decided to offer three full scholarships to Delhi University under his dead mother's name. Since Khushi's marks were impressive and feedback from her lecturers was amazing dean didn't have any problems offering one of those to Khushi.

"Mr. Arnav, where are you lost? the earth is calling"

"Oh, sorry, do you know how long will this meeting take? We actually need to go somewhere by 4.30"

"A date?"

"A what?"

"I am sorry, I was trying to be funny. Please ignore. She'll be out soon. Dean has to attend the faculty meeting at 4.00 so shouldn't take long"

Lavanya decided not to open her mouth again. Aranv does not look like a person she can make fun of. He is an on-point and no-nonsense kind of man.

Khushi came out of the meeting room and her happiness was over the top. She was worried about how she can fund her left for the next year. Looks like god has not given up on her yet. She ran outside to share the good news with Lavanya but stopped in the middle when she saw Lavanya and Arnav talking to each other.

Something unexplainable ran through her mind. She felt angry and sad at the same time. She didn't know what the feeling was but one thing she knew was that she didn't like what she saw.

"Look, here she comes. Khushi, Mr. Arnav has been waiting for you, come here, don't just stand there like a statue"

"Khushi, hurry up, we need to go somewhere"

"Where?"

"We need to go to the lawyer. Di and Akash bhai are coming so we need to go now otherwise we'll be late"

"Lawyer? Why? Is everything ok?"

"I'll explain on the way, come on hush-hush"

Khushi grabbed her bag and phone from Lavanya.

"It was a pleasure meeting you, Miss Lavanya"

"Pleasure is all mine Mr. Arnav"

Khushi didn't like this new connection. In fact, she hated it. She said a quick bye to Lavanya and followed Arnav.

"They were fighting like tom and jerry in the morning and now they are behaving like jack and rose. God knows what's going on in these two minds"

Thinking that Lavanya was headed home.

"Khushi, our family lawyer is going to read Advay's will today. That's why we need to be there"

"I don't want to go nor do I want anything from that man"

"Khushi, I understand your anger but these are legal proceedings, we cannot just ignore them just because you didn't like the person"

"But I don't need a single penny from him. Please take me home"

"Khushi, try and understand. We'll go there, see what's in the will, and then we'll decide ok?"

"Can I do that?"

"Yes, you can"

Khushi turned her head to the side and looked outside the window. Arnav looked at Khushi and he realized one thing, the person sitting next to him is broken into tiny pieces. Mending those pieces will take a lot more time. One thing he needs to make sure of is not to break her anymore.

They reached the lawyer's office and saw Akash's car is already there.

"Come, let's go, Khushi"

"You'll be there too right?"

"Yes, I will be there. At any point, if you want him to stop or you need anything let me know ok?"

"I will"

Arnav took her inside the office where everyone else was waiting for them.

"Welcome Mr. Arnav and Mrs. Raiza...."

"Please call me Khushi"

Khushi corrected the lawyer before he completed his words.

"I am sorry, welcome Miss Khushi. Please have a seat"

As soon as they walked into the office where the seats were Khushi grabbed Arnav's arm and held it tight. Arnav looked at Khushi and assured her by touching the back of her palm with his other hand and then they both sat next to Anjali.

"Good evening everyone, you are all gathered here for the will reading of the late Mr. Advay Singh Raizada. He has clearly indicated that his will should be read after a month of his death"

I, Advay Singh Raizada, writing this will in front of my Lawyer Mr. Mahesh Arora as a witness. I hereby swear that no one by myself is responsible for any decision taken in this will and I have taken these decisions with a clear mind without any influence. I divide, my 25% share of the company as follows:

8% - To my sister Anjali Jha

8% - To my brother Akash Singh Raizada

9% - To my youngest brother Aranv Singh Raizada

My personal savings balance of 2.5 crores will go into the Raizada family trust and charity.

My saving of 30 lacks will be given to Samantha (Sam). In the event of her death before mine, this money will be divided among my sibling - 10 lacks each.

The savings account my wife used to have which has been transferred to my name by her father will be re-transferred back to her with a balance of 50 lacks.

All my personal belongings can be donated.

The lawyer completed the will reading.

"Any questions or concerns?"

Khushi looked at Arnav.

"Do you want to say something, Khushi?"

"Yes, I do"

"It's fine, you can say what you want to say"

"Mr. Arora, I would like you to donate the 50 lacks I received from this will to a charity"

"Are you sure Miss Khushi, I mean, 50 lacks is a generous amount of money"

"Please Mr. Arora, I do not want anything from this will. So I authorize you to donate this amount to a charity"

"But Miss Khushi"

"Mr. Arora, you heard her. If she does not want this money, then do as she says. Call my PA and he'll give you the details of the orphanage we work with so you can arrange to transfer this to that orphanage, would that be ok Khushi?"

Khushi looked at Arnav and node yes.

The lawyer took the papers with him leaving the family members to discuss this further.

"Khushi, I know you wanted nothing from Advay but technically this is your money coming back to you"

"Di, I survived without this so I can survive in the future too. I know this may sound harsh, but I don't want the money touched by him. He made me suffer every single day when he was alive and now when he is gone, I don't want his pity"

"But Khushi, it's 50 lacks, at least take some of it for your use"

"No Akash bhai, as I said, I don't want anything from him. I am trying to move on with my life and I don't need his baggage to come and bite me later"

"But..."

"Bhai, Di, please leave her alone. If she says she does not want this let's respect her decision. She knows what's best for her more than any of us"

Khushi was surprised. Arnav was the last person she thought would support her. He not only supported her but also made sure not to come in between her decisions. He respected her decision.

She mouthed a thank you only he can hear and walk outside the office.

"Arnav, you should tell her. Looks like she looks up to you"

"Di, as I said, it's her life, so she has the right to choose. I am not going to come between her and her choices. Neither of us should"

Saying that Arnav followed Khushi. Akash who lost the plot stood there trying to figure out what is going on while Anjali stood there with a smile on her face.
