Anyway onto the story:

3rd Person P.O.V.:

The sheets ruffled and sweat formed on the side of the boy's face. But no matter the case he's eyes would not open to escape the horrors he was undergoing. It got worse and as it did so did his shuffling. The screams and the cries he heard, knowing all he could do was watch and stare, he struggled to move but he was frozen in place. Tears were the only thing that were able to escape. His hand unconsciously moved to his throat, and with a gasp he awoke, breathing heavily to refill his lungs.

Hot tears streamed down Hugo's face, he ran his fingers through his already dishevelled hair. Shakily walking to the bathroom, he turned on the water and let the water rush, ice cold water splashed his face, running shivers across his face. He leaned on the counter top, staring back at his blank reflection. He couldn't fall back asleep, pacing around his room muttering instead. His head was spinning with his dream. And his heart aflame.

Before he had realised the sun had risen and he was walking into school. He could feel his heartbeat resonating throughout his entire being, one phrase of uncertainty on loop, 'she is alive.'

Walking through the gates he scanned all faces, panic rising when he couldn't find hers, he went back and forth until he felt a tap on his shoulder, startled he looked over, instantly serenity washing him . A smile graced his lips, greeting her ", morning Sofia."

"Are you excited for the flying derby championships? I'm so excited and I know you and James will make it, like you have done these past couple of races, like with that school, the School for Noble Boys, or St Nicks School for Princes."

"I'm sure with you there for support we'll be fine, plus me and James have been practicing for a while, those stuck up royal knights won't stand a chance." Hugo explained, smiling down at her energy.

"Of course they won't," Sofia cheered, her hands in fists pumped up near her chest. A large smile gracing her lips. Gasping she continued ", and today! Uh you guys are going to be just aweee-some."

Her hands spread in a wide circle going above her head, turning back around and grabbing his arm, she shook him ", you're gonna do greaaaaaaat."

No one could've contained a smile, and neither could Hugo, he shook his head jokingly, and ruffled her hair, saying ", come on we gotta get to class."

Classes flew by and before anyone had time to flip a page, everyone was lined in the school stands, excitement and nerves rattled throughout all of them. It was the semi-finals for the flying crown. Sofia was in the stands alongside her family and Hugo's family, as well as Vivian.

"Oh, what if they don't make it, or what if they get hurt, or, or..." Vivian trailed off, clutching her fan, looking around nervously. Sofia gave her friend a comforting shoulder pat and giggled ", oh, come on, we know them better than that, they'll definitely make it!"

Vivian gave a shaky smile, but stood closer to the rail nonetheless.

When the names were called out and the bell was rung, cheers erupted from every corner of the stands, Vivian, Sofia and Amber screamed on the top of their lungs. They kept their cheers going even though they were filled with nerves. Each obstacle course held different emotions from both cheering sides, each team coming first then losing it to the opponent. And when they were neck and neck just before the finish line, everyone held their breaths, no one daring to make a single peep.

It truly was a tight game, however, just in the last second, Royal Prep pulls in by just a bit. And everyone exploded in cheers.

The brightest smiles lined Hugo and James' faces. As they hoped off their horses, they turned to the crowd and bowed, then turned and faced their competition and bowed once more.

Their friends all rushed down to meet them at the gates, congratulating them as well as fretting over them, undeniably there were hues of pink and red adorning their faces. But in all the richness of their achievements it fell short, when disaster struck, and James tripped; getting overly excited.

Everyone panicked, some more than others; Vivian.

Finally Miss Flora came out, sighing. "There is good and bad news, James, fortunately didn't break any bones, however he did sprain his wrist which will take about 2-4 weeks to fully heal, meaning that he will not be able to partake in the coming flying crown."

"What?!" cried out those who were in the waiting room.

"Oh, no! Will I have to spoon feed you know, and bathe you as well?" Hugo laughed, earning a smile from James.

Going along with it he replied dramatically, placing his good hand above his heart, "oh by heavens, I've been blessed by an angel."

"But seriously, now what happens?" Hugo asked, turning towards Sir Gilliam. Everyone's heads, also turning.

"Well, James will have a temporary substitute, and that would be Sofia, since you are basically part of the top three," he answered and instantly all heads snapped towards Sofia.

"Well, I'd be honoured," she replied, a nervous smile, complementing her clumsy curtsey.

"Well I'm glad that if anyone is replacing me, it's you," James stated, patting Sofia on the shoulder.

The events of the day calmed down, and people went on with their day, obviously some had to make some more changes than others. Sofia was given her team jersey and James didn't want to give up, so he was deemed as assistant to help and maintain anything around the stables, only if Vivian was to stay by his side — orders of his teachers.

James and Vivian sat down in the stands, a light breeze flew through their hair. They sat there in a pleasant silence. James' hand sat on Vivian's lap, while she gently rubbed his hurt wrist.

"Sorry Vivian, now you have to wonder around because of me, doing something that you don't enjoy," James sighed, turning towards her.

She giggled, turning to look at him ", James, I really don't mind, plus if we are to be betrothed that means I need to give you time for what you enjoy, also it means getting to spend more time with you. I know you need me, just like I need you."

She squeezed his fingers ", and I would choose you over anything, anytime."

She slid closer to him giving him a hug, and he buried his face in her hair, she knew he was hurting, she knew that he was holding it all in, she knew he needed her, and he knew that she knew. The tears started coming out and she held him closer, rubbing his back, soothing him with her soft voice.

"Thank you," he whispered meekly, pulling back to stare at her beautiful face.

She smiled, before whispering back just as softly ", anytime."

In the stables, Hugo and Sofia sat down, drinking hibiscus tea. Letting the tranquillity wash over them. Hugo stared at Sofia, his mind rushing, at first he was ecstatic that he would be riding with Sofia, but the more he thought about it the more the idea didn't sit with him.

He still remembered what had happened last time. Has she recovered? Was she able to handle all that pressure? Was this really the best option for her?

"Hugo?" she broke the silence. Taking a silent sip, he hummed, not really paying her any mind,

"You alright? You've kinda been quiet which isn't that bad, but your face looks troubled," she said, putting her cup down, she turned her body giving him her full attention.

He sighed. He took a sip from his tea, as she waited patiently, he turned to her, before he spoke ", it's just, I, I, like."

He groaned, and leaned back. "It's just, like, I'm glad and all that, you know how you're my partner and all, but, I just, I'm scared? I guess, like that's the best I can put into words."

"Scared?" Sofia asked, shuffling over to him, climbing up and tucking her legs under her. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know, like scared for so many reasons, that all circle around you," he said, shifting his body towards her, one leg dangling down the side of the coach, as he sat atop the other. "Like, is it right for you to compete, like I don't want to stop you from doing something that you're happy about, but at the same time, I remember what happened last time and I don't want that to cause you any trouble."

"Hugo, I still technically ride a flying horse, it's just not competitively," Sofia answered, taking his hands in hers.

"I know, I know, but still, I just, I don't want to see you get hurt," Hugo muttered, looking down at her hands in his.

Sofia squeezed his hands, before speaking ", as long as you're beside me, I'll be fine."

He breathed in deeply and let it out, bringing her hands to his lips, he placed a chaste kiss to her knuckles, giving her a soft smile. Heat rose to her cheeks, but she smiled back regardless.

Night had come and gone, and the future rulers were making their way to the stables, Vivian had a similar attire to Sofia's, but she didn't wear a helmet, instead her hair was put into a bun.

Vivian and James went to report to Sir Gilliam, while Sofa and Hugo went to mount their horses. The day started out pretty okay, then just went downhill from there, for everyone.

James had been trying his best to help Sir Gilliam out, like setting up the polls, helping guide the horse, setting up cones, even with Vivian's help he was super clumsy. Eventually he changed jobs to horse groomer, along with Vivian, of course.

As they made their way to the stalls, and even while they started washing the horses, James did not stop sighing, that finally Vivian had enough and flicked water on him.

"Hey, what was that for?" He whined, turning to face her, wiping his neck, where she had hit him.

She put her arms on her waist before answering ",you need to stop sighing, you're only going to make yourself more upset, so stop."

She stared. He stared back. And then she flicked more water on him.

He stared at her, and then started some more.

"You did not just do that," he sputtered, still a little shocked at what had just happened.

"I think I just did, what ya gonna do about it huh?" she teased, her head cocking to the side, a loopy smile on her face.

That really riled him up ", oh yeah then fine."

He took a handful of water and then splashed it on her, she was and ducked he missed but when she got back up he was prepared and flicked another handful on her getting her right on her face, she gasped and looked over at him she smirked and he squirmed, she threw her entire bucket of water all over him and got him all over.

"Oh, it is so on." And he threw his entire portion of water on her as well, running to get more.

And for a while it went back and forth until Sir Gilliam walked in.

"Vivian, James what is this nonsense." he chided, looking at the two for an explanation.

"Sorry sir we didn't mean to it was well...," they uttered, a bit confused themselves.

"Look maybe this isn't the best job so why don't you clean up after yourselves and come find me and I'll find another job for you," and when he saw James' face fall all he added, "don't worry it isn't so bad, I have maybe the perfect job for you."

As they cleaned Vivian felt horrible this was all her fault. They went over to Sir Gilliam and he gave them James' new job, team mascot. And so once they were done, even though she mostly did the work - not that she minded that much - she sat him down and apologised.

"James, I'm so sorry, this was all my fault, dammit, maybe I-," she rumbled.

"Hey, hey, don't worry too much about it, it's really not that big of a deal." He told her, taking her hand in his, a soft smile. "Plus, the team mascot doesn't sound so bad, I got my whistle back."

She giggled at his childish charms.

While Vivian and James were heading back to an easy evening, Sofia and Hugo's evening was just starting to take a down fall.

They had ridden the course for a while now and were doing okay. Sofia was looking good and this eased Hugo, that was until they started practicing the flying slingshot. Sofia had brought it up and Sir Gillian had explained the move, where you circle each other on the winged horses and the bigger rider slings the smaller rider. They had just started practicing but due to Sofia's little bit of accident from before they decided that it would be best to sling Hugo instead of Sofia even though she had a smaller horse.

And that's when things started taking a downfall. Both Sofia and Hugo were losing hope, in all honesty Hugo didn't complain and Sofia kept losing hope. She didn't see how this could help them win.

"How about I fling you for one try and see what happens," Sofia stated, smiling warily at him.

"Um sure that's fine with me if that's okay with you Sof," he replied, giving her a smile in return. And so they did try it but Sofia's fear came all crashing back to her and Sofia didn't end up in an all to well position with her landing right in the pond.

"Sofia!" Hugo cried out, and in an instant he was at her side, hoping off his horse and helping her out. "You okay?"

"Uh, I uh," she paused, and scrunched her face, shifting ", I, uh, actually feel, alright."

"You-you, do?" he asked, a tad bit still uneasy.

"Yeah, I thought what happened last time would have added on to just now, but instead I feel like I accomplished something," she babbled, jumping on him for a hug.

A little confused he just nodded and hugged back ", so then, I can, fling you right?"

She nodded, and they both grinned.

As they walked back to the stables, their competitors for tomorrow had unexpectedly made an appearance.

As they hopped off their horse, Sofia being her made her way to greet them. Hugo followed unwillingly, glaring at the enemies.

"Hey, you guys must be the Royal Junior Knights representatives, right?"

"Yeah, and it looks like this year is going to be easier than ever," grunted one of the boys. Folding his arms over, looking them up and down.

Hugo scoffed before biting back. "As if you guys look like competition, you don't look so expeditious yourselves. Oh sorry did I use a big word for you?"

"If you want, we can go right now, no ones stopping us!" Bellowed the other, puffing out his chest, getting right in Hugo's face.

Sofia panicked and got in between the two before anything else could happen. "Heh why don't we just wait for tomorrow to roll around instead, okay?"

Nobody said anything still made, the two junior knights, stalked away. And Sofia calmed down, until, one of them idiotically bumped into Sofia on purpose knocking her down,

Hugo's eyes widened and instantly he was helping Sofia up, but the second he knew she was alright he was chasing after the knights, Sofia right on his heels, again panicked.

"What the hell?!"

"What?"

"Don't play coy you know what you did," Hugo yelled.

"Hugo calm down really I'm fine and I'm sure it was a simple mistake"

"Please don't Sofia, don't try and cover for someone like that no one would do such a thing."

"Hugo! please I'm fine," exasperated Sofia,

"Yeah listen to your little princess," mocked the taller of the two, a smirk prancing his lips.

And that's when he blew.

He grabbed his vest shaking him, about to say something, when he saw Sofia's eyes.

Her eyes said it all;

"If you end up doing something you could lose us our spot and chance of winning in a hundred years."

He almost listened but then he saw the smirk and instead his grip tightened his teeth grinding into each other turning to powder.

"Hugo! let go," he looked at her and, against his wishes, let go.

Hugo fumed he couldn't believe that no one hurt Sofia, especially not in front of him, but he knew she was right. Seething with rage he watched them stalk away victorious, and in an instant Hugo was marching back to the stables, a line of fury chasing him.

James and Vivian were in the stables, when Hugo marched in startling them.

"Hugo! Wait!"

He kicked a bucket close by making Vivian flinch.

Sofia came puffing in. "Look tomorrow you'll be able to prove them wrong alright so there's no need to stress tomorrow we'll win for sure Hugo seriously it's not that bad."

"Look Sofia just go, I'll be fine okay I swear I'll be fine just trust me and go home, take a bath, and get rest," Hugo ordered, crossing his arms and stalking away.

Sofia grimaced ",fine but you can talk to me you know."

He just nodded, a fake smile, James watched in silence and Vivian left following Sofia looking over at Hugo a bit concerned but she knew he'd be alright.

What an exasperated sigh Hugo sunk down onto the bench.

"So, you gonna tell me what happened or am I gonna have to guess?" James asked, turning towards his friend.

"Those dumb knights, they bumped into her shoulder I swear they did it on purpose those, ugh!" Hugo hollered, pacing back and forth his arms flailing everywhere

"They what!?"

"I know I know."

"What did you do?"

"well I kinda lost it and ran after him I almost calmed down until the dumbass opened his mouth and I grabbed him by the collar, if Sofia wasn't there god knows what would've happened seriously kinda glad but mad at the same time, you know what I mean?" Hugo rambled, squinting his face in disgust.

James nodded, "damn tough ain't it."

"Yeah tell me about it," sighed Hugo

"Well as annoying as it is I have to admit it but Sofia was right if you had done something, god knows what would've happened to our school, and to you and Sofia the students might... yeah let's not go there," James summarized, looking over to him and giving him a pat on the back.

"Yeah," Hugo seconded

"Hey if you want we can knock some steam off, you in?"

"How?"

James smirked, "I think I know a way."

"Seriously, why are we in front of your bathroom mirror?'

James smirked and then started making weird poses and faces in front of the mirror.

"Alright weirdo, what're you doing?"

"Shut up and join me, it's fun,"

By the end of it the two boys were on the floor laughing their heads off, they had made fun of each other, posed together and had a competition to see who could make a more embarrassing self pep talk.

"Better?"

Hugo nodded, "thanks."

James smiled, "anytime, but I think you need to go home and rest, for now."

Hugo nodded and gave him a side hug before leaving. As a joke James waved from his bedroom window, pretending to cry holding a handkerchief, Hugo played along, sending kisses and hearts his way.

Sofia had been watching from her own balcony, a soft grin gracing her face, glad he had calmed down.

The exciting day had rolled around and in the stands anxiety flowed through the everyone who had come to cheer. And in the stalls the riders there was an uncomfortable hate and angst within. The second the bell rang they were off, flying through the course but no matter what Royal Prep did they never seemed to be in the lead. And even when they did come close, the Junior Knights always pulled off a move that had them leaping into first place. This continued on for ages that was until the end with their secret weapon the boy flung the smaller horse, the girl and boom, boom they were in the lead at the last second. They had won coming in first place, the stands went wild in an explosion of cheers, led by the mascot.

As they came down to land the two players ran to each other embracing each other in an excited tight hold. They were then joined by the mascot jumping right into the hug, followed by the girl's best friend. And soon all of their classmates surrounded them congratulating them.
