Chapter 28

Unedited.

Min Yoongi's pov.

"I'll wake up soon. Stop acting like you're at my funeral." I groan, not liking all of the unwanted attention I was getting.

"For all we know this could very well be you're funeral."

"I've already died once before, don't worry." I got comfortable on the bed beside Taehyung, knowing I could be in this position for a while and possibly forever.

"Yeah but you know you can't come back-" Namjoon's words were cut off by Jin's hand laying upon his shoulder. I wasn't stupid. I understood that when I died before I was human and since I'm really just a soul and a physical embodiment of a Sin, once I'm dead there's no coming back.

I eyed Namjoon, wanting to assure him that I'd be fine but I didn't want to make a cheesy scene. Instead I shut my eyes and allowed myself to be consumed in Taehyung's mind.

It was an odd experience indeed, leaving your body and entering another. But I'd grown accustomed to the hollow feeling it left me but the newly found perspective on another's life and that buzz of electricity I felt when I would awaken in my body was exhilarating.

However, when entering Taehyung's body I instantly felt that this would be a different experience. I've never felt the need to project myself into another supernatural beings body but I had never expected my friends soul to be this cold. But also harboring a sin isn't exactly warmth and rainbows either.

Searching for his conscience, I suddenly appeared in a clearing surrounding by darkness. The grass was overgrown and unkempt. The only indication of life was the sound of heavy breathing just a few feet away from. Looking over, I caught sight of a body lying down in the blanket grass and weeds. His body had been covered in cuts and covered in blood. I'd be concerned If I hadn't known this was a figment of his conscience.

"Taehyung? Where are we?" Of course I knew we were in the darkest depths of Taehyung's mind but I was referring to the setting I was currently in.

"We're at the night where it all fell apart. I haven't been able to leave." Taehyung's chest rose and fell at a rapid pace.

"Why haven't you been able leave?" My eyebrows furrow in confusion.

"I can't move on. I'm scared." Taehyung continues to stare into the nights sky.

This was a lot more complicated than I thought. Seemingly, Taehyung's the one stopping himself from waking up. In the light of things this means we have a chance of waking up but I'm afraid Taehyung's a convoluted being and we don't have a lot of time.

"You know, you've never told me what happened that night." I started, hoping to get to the root of this issue right away.

Taehyung's eyes shifted over to me and just like that, night air surrounding me had morphed into a room. It was grand, marble covering the place from head to toe with specks of gold lining cracks. The finest of silks hung from the walls. But I my eyes weren't focusing on that, they were more focused on the figure standing in the middle of the room.

"Jungkook had killed the king of the western temples. He was my brother as you know. I expected him to care but he didn't even seem the least bit fazed." Taehyung's voice echoed throughout the room but only I could hear his narration.

His familiar features had never seemed so foreign. His usual honey colored eyes were a pitch black and the chubby cheeks that I had grown accustomed to were sunken. His skin was pale and lifeless. I'm no saint, and I've been known to mercilessly take a few lives myself but the look in Jungkook's eyes was something else. I was looking at a stranger, not someone I'd spent the last couple hundred years of my life with.

"Jungkook." Taehyung chokes out a sob.

I then turn my head to see Taehyung dressed in different clothing, a suit made for only royals, but not surprising given his background.

"Why?"

Jungkook's jaw ticked. "I had my reasons. You weren't supposed to be here. Just forget about me Taehyung."

"No. You know I can't. You're my brother Jungkook." The pain in Taehyung's voice was loud and clear. I couldn't help but be in awe at Taehyung's adamant love for Jungkook even when he'd just murdered his brother.

"I am not your brother! Is this a joke? After what I just did and you can honestly stand there and not see how fucked up this?! I felt bad for you! You're always sulking, it's a wonder how I even stuck around this long. I would've been better off dying." Jungkook said coldly. Even I had managed to flinch at his words.

"That's not true." Taehyung moves closer to Jungkook, carefully bypassing the crimson colored floors.

"Just stop Taehyung. Gather whatever little bit of self respect you have left and see this as a favor. A parting gift, now you can take his place." Jungkook went to move past him.

Taehyung called after the younger boy, grasping his shoulders. In a swift motion Jungkook harshly shoved Taehyung down and looked to him with such a hate filled look Taehyung had shrunk back onto the floor.

I had to turn my head and shut my eyes as Taehyung crawled to his knees, his cries echoing off of the marble walls.

When I opened my eyes the scene had shifted once again. I was in a dark room only lit by candles but by the look of the expensive decor I'd say we're still at the castle.

"This was a couple of days after Jungkook left. It was the lowest point of my life. I felt like I was dying. I felt like everything Jungkook had said about me, pitiful and useless." Taehyung's deep voice sounded from beside me.

"I became more aloof and every little thing made me jealous. Families having the life I never had. I was rotting away. And that's when she showed up. She said it was like my soul was calling out to her. She preyed on me and filled my head with lies. I knew she was the one who had gotten into Jungkook's head, I wasn't stupid, but I thought just maybe if I had let myself be thrown into her trap I could see him again." I watched the scene before me with a deep frown.

Taehyung sat on his bed, listening to every word that wicked woman had whispered into his ear. He looked so broken and destroyed. And even in Taehyung's memories I was able to see the darkness manifesting itself within Taehyung's soul.

Turning around, Taehyung's current self had walked behind me waiting for me to follow. Trailing behind him I was led into yet another memory.

"And I was right." Taehyung said solemnly. We were back at the wooded scenery in which I had arrived at earlier. "I did see him again, but he wasn't the same Jungkook I fell in love with." His voice was a lot quieter as he said this but I chose to ignore his last remark for the time being. "But at that point I wasn't the same person either."

The current Taehyung that stood beside me had disappeared and reprised his role as himself in his tragically repressed memory.

A tall figure with golden eyes stalked out of the woods, his stance screaming power and demanding submission but Taehyung was not going to give it.

"I thought handing you the thrown would stop help you grow up but I guess I was just as stupid as you. Was this all a ploy to get my attention, hm? Making hangings a weekly tradition and stripping innocent people of their free will isn't exactly something to brag about." Jungkook's judgmental eyes pierced Taehyung's hollow ones.

Even though Taehyung tried to convince me of Jungkook's dramatic change I could see in his eyes, the faint glimmer of hope. He'd hoped the various gold bands and gems adorning Taehyung's slender fingers were just for show.

Jungkook was searching for some indication of remorse that Taehyung felt for committing such horrid acts. But he found none.

"They were all born with nothing, I figured it's only fair for them to die with nothing. And don't flatter yourself Jungkookie, everything I've done thus far was all for my own benefit." Taehyung's voice resonated no emotion. His eyes however lit ablaze in a green flame.

Jungkook's fists clinched tightly at his sides.

Seeing this story play out from and outside perspective was much more different than hearing it from one side. Jungkook wrongfully killed Taehyung's brother with his intention of crowning Taehyung king but Taehyung had ruled his kingdom to the ground.

"This wasn't for your benefit, it's for hers." Jungkook directed his words to the shadow looming over Taehyung's shoulders.

"What's with that tone Jungkook? Did you forget about all of the fun times we had together?" My body naturally stiffened at the voice I'd become well versed to.

"I wasn't myself then. It wasn't until I had made a friend that I realized it. Maybe he could help you out too?" Jungkook asked genuinely but it was clearly an act. Her sultry malevolent laugh echoed from the blackness of the night.

"You won't have to worry about turning him too, Jin's quite a sinful man." In a flash, just barely something my eyes could catch, Chaos had launched herself at Jungkook pining him to the ground.

"What did you just say boy?" She hissed, squeezing Jungkook's jaw in her hand tightly as she hovered over him. Her dark brown hair cascaded in waves down her back and spilling over Jungkook's body.

"Seokjin wants to have a chat about all of the fun you've been having without him." A speckle Of mirth shown in Jungkook's golden eyes.

"Looks like someone's been going around sharing secrets. I can't have that now, can I?" Chaos leaned down and crashed her lips against Jungkook's.

Jungkook froze for a moment before shoving her off of him. I watched as he opened his mouth to yell only to be met with silence. So this was how he had lost his voice. I had known it was because of Chaos but I didn't know the details, I guess this would be pretty difficult to explain.

"I'm sorry what was that?" Chaos teased with a devious smile. Jungkook sat up, his eyes glowing brighter than ever. He was seething at this point.

"I think he meant to say something along the lines of paybacks a bitch." Jin's frightening tone had Chaos jumping like a scared kitten.

His raven colored hair was much longer than it was now. Jin's black cloak and vibrant red red eyes had him looking like a demon straight from hell. Chaos was no better than Jungkook in this situation with her words caught in her throat. But in the millisecond that it took Jin to lift his foot Chaos had fled.

"I've got her, take care of your friend." Jin said quickly before he vanished himself.

There was a moment of pure and absolute silence between the two of them.

"So we're friends now?" Taehyung broke the unbearable silence.

"Taehyung, it doesn't have to be like this." Jungkook's voice echoed throughout the crevice of Taehyung's mind, eyeing Taehyung's right hand as it traveled to the belt around his waist.

"And what am I supposed to do? Suddenly change my mind and become the good guy again? I can't go back after everything I've done." Taehyung's demeanor was just as calm and impassive as it had been when they first saw each other again.

"Yes you can-"

"No I can't. And I can't help feeling envious towards you. These feelings won't ever change Jungkook. It's who I am now." Taehyung's green eyes narrowed and in a swift motion he'd pulled out a long sharpened dagger from his belt.

Jungkook's eyes shut briefly at the notion and when they opened again they're were much sharper than before. Reaching behind his back, he pulled out a dagger of his own. "If this is what is has to come to, then so be it."
