After I got done with my most recent mission, I walked into my loft and almost immediately saw a note on the kitchen counter. Picking up the note, I carefully read and examine it.

New Mission
New clan rising in New York.
Revealed to be Hamato Clan.
Has evaded Shredder's grasp so far.
Do not let your guard down.
The clan is some kind of lab experiment turtles, so keep that in mind.

Report information back to Karai or Shredder.
Just let Saki and his foot clan deal with everything else.

Any information I missed, you will be informed by Karai or Shredder.
You have your task.
Now complete it.
- A.A.

After I read it, I hastily sent a text to Andrew for the location, who surprisingly responded immediately. I got the equipment needed for my mission and went to meet up with Karai.

Which was why I was here at this moment. Stalking some teenage mutant ninja turtle. Oh and did I mention they were supposedly turtles? Yeah, weird day this is becoming.

Standing outside, propped up against a brick wall, I observing the blue-masked ninja turtle motion, who was currently leaping from building to building.

Karai walked forward, a half-dozen foot soldiers slowly following her. Karai held her hand up to keep the soldiers from approaching any further.

Once he decided to stop, Karai motioned for the Foot to attack as we watched in the background.

"Foot clan? Huh, you guys just made my night," The leader said as the foot lunged at him. He easily beat them and it was 4 to 1, "Ah, I feel so much better."

"Well," I declared, observing him fight, "I believe it's time for me to make my entrance," Karai gave a nod as we exchanged roguish smirks.

"Not bad," The lightness of my tone, given the circumstance, rendered him speechless as I stepped out of my shadowy spot in the corner, which prompted me to add even more gaily: "You might actually be a challenge."

The blue masked turtle looked as if he had just gotten punched in the face, his helpless expression dazed and muscular body swaying a little bit from where he stood.

Honestly, it was sort of adorable.

Eyes narrowing, he straightened up, seeming ready to defend himself if needed as he said, "Uh, thanks?"

"I'm Maddix," I introduced myself, and he let out a confused, "Huh?"

"Hey, Karai?" I called out to her, "why don't you greet him as well."

Flipping down off the billboard, She landed gracefully into ninja's line of sight, Karai smirked at him as she slowly drew out her sword, releasing blinding powder at him and he immediately started coughing and eyes became red.

I lunged at him, pinning him to the roof with my boot and held my dagger against his neck as I teased, "Guess not."

Staring at my dagger, the ninja's eyes widened nervously as he swallowed hard.

As I withdrew my dagger a crooked grin formed on my lip as he continued stared at me in shock.

He stuttered another quick 'Huh' as I stated, "See you around," and in a blink of an eye, Karai and I were gone, no doubt leaving that Ninja even more confused.

******************🐢⚔️*******************

A heavy sigh escaped my exasperated lips as my impatience for Karai grew, so I pulled my phone out to call only to pause as a familiar voice was heard from the alleyway just below me.

Scanning the alleyway, I saw the blue masked turtle immediately, who could be heard mumbling to himself about his brothers and something about a burden.

He started grumbling to himself: "where are those guys? Donnie said something about Forty-seventh and, uh..."

Interest peaked, I straightened up and couldn't help myself from moving closer.

Jumping off the building, I interrupted his thoughts, "Do you always talk to yourself?"

His back straightened up in surprise and he turned to face me with a slight grin, "sometimes I'm the only one who'll listen."

My lips quirked, "I'll listen..." after casually pulling out my sword, I continued, "when you beg for your life."

He unsheathed one of his katana and held it in his right hand, "let's see how well you do against someone without your partner here to blind them."

Raising my brow, I inspected his smug face rather impressed as I retorted, "let's see how well you do against someone who's better than you."

"Let's see how well you do against...Let's just go!" He began to retort back before stammering towards the end.

We prepared ourselves to strike. Only we never moved to attack.

We just stared at each other. Me, listening to his elevated pulse rising, but it wasn't fear I sensed, or apprehension.

It was different, and the longer I stared into those piercing eyes, the more I came to realize that we were both trying to figure each other out.

Breaking out of the concentrated stare, I lunged towards him, while scolding myself for becoming easily distracted by the enemy.

We exchanged slashes and blocked each other's attack, even exchanged banter between us. Making this duel seem more like a training session than an actual life or death fight.

Pausing, I ran a hair through my long locks and quirked my lips, "you're good. No wonder they haven't wiped you out yet."

He glanced up, gaze heavily mixed with confusion, interest, and suspicion as he replied, "It's not like shredder hasn't been trying."

"I know," I said, offering up a grimace, "Shredder has been going on and on about revenge and vendettas like a broken record."

"Really?" He inquired lightly, "I take it you don't approve."

"Do you really want my opinion on that?" I replied, half-joking and half-serious.

"Yes," he persisted, looking at me intently.

"Not in the least, he really need a hobby," I stated mater-of-factly, "It's not healthy to have such an obsession," causally shrugging, "but really it's not hurting me none, so whatever. To each their own."

My spine straightened as I moved forward automatically. Weapons clashing with each other's.

I dodged two strikes and booted his chest, sending him flying to the end of the alleyway. He immediately got up and continued to attack.

Dodging and self-defense was instinct, one I practiced every day for years of my life. Fighting had always been necessary for survival, especially being a werewolf. Never a dull moment when you have to constantly watch your back.

I followed Leonardo's momentum and dodged backwards into backflipped before charging again.

My strikes were quick and precise. But so we're his. He blocked any oncoming attacks or strikes of mine and returned his own with the same momentum and strength.

"Not bad, but I've seen better," I replied with a shrug.

Leo scoffed, "with one blade, maybe, not two."

And our swords clashed against each other's again. Our fight went on until we eventually ended up on a fire escape.

"You know what? I don't think you're as bad as you pretend to be," The Hamato ninja suddenly stated.

Furrowing my brows, I gave the ninja a thoroughly perplexed look before remarking, "Me? You don't even know me."

Before he could reply a female voice could be heard. A voice I was all too familiar with.

"I don't think you're as good as you pretend to be," karai said, her sword pressed against his throat, "Don't tell me the goody three toes thing doesn't wear thin after awhile?"

"Better than the alternate," he spat back.

"Which is what? To have fun, to cut loose, to live your own life?" She mocked.

He got out of her grasp and pointed his katana at her.

"Guess I struck a nerve?" She slyly said.

"Huh, because I beat you," he replied back and they continued to fight.

Deciding to end the fighting, I stated, "You see that high rise?" pointing to the Biarly Building when he nodded and said, "yeah" I continued, "meet us there at midnight."

"Why?" He asked, his tone exposing his confusion.

"I want to show you something," Karai interjected before we disappeared.

***********🐢⚔️🥷***********

As we paced along the edge of the building, my thoughts wondered back to my strange experience with Leonardo. I mean, 'I don't think you're as bad as you pretend to be?' He barely even knew me and already made that assumption. It made no sense to me. If he knew I wasn't part of Shredder's clan, than yeah that comment would make sense, but he doesn't as far as I knew, so how could he make that assumption without proof. But I guess I'll have to ponder that thought another time.

My next thoughts also went to Andrew, who, unfortunately, did not answer my call, but I made sure the message I left would warrant a call back. It's not like him to not call and check on me though, but I wanted to make sure he did.

My pacing came to a halt the second I heard quiet footsteps and gentle breathing.

"Well, look who finally decided to show up," I muttered, slowly turning to face none other than Leonardo as I added, "I was beginning to think you blew us off."

"So, what's this about?" Leo inquired slowly, while shuffling towards us, gaze intently focused on me.

Karai tossed a pair of binoculars to him as she responded with, "that," as she pointed at someone's apartment that had a sword on display.

Leo looked through the binoculars and said in awe, "That's the sword of
Miyamoto Musashi."

"The greatest swordsman in the history of Japan. It's ancient, it's priceless and it's yours...if you help us?" Karai said with the usual amount of detail.

Twitching a bit nervously, he looked away and stared at the apartment, as he hesitantly asked, " Do what?"

Rolling my eyes, I spoke up, "you know what. It's exactly as she said, we're stealing a sword." Apparently.

Staring straight at us with a dead-serious expression, he replied sternly, "no, we're not.

Oh c'mon!" Karai complained, standing up and pointing at the sword as she did so, "That sword is just sitting there collecting dust. You know you deserve that katana, certainly more than some lazy rich guy." Crossing her arms, she continued, "stop being responsible, Leonardo. Stop waiting for people to give you the life you want. Go out and take it."

"No," he said with finality, "we're not stealing it."

I raised a brow as a smirk tugged at the corner of my mouth as I state, "Um, yeah, we are. Wether you like it or not. With or without you, we're getting that sword."

Plus, I don't like being told what to do.

"I won't help the two of you steal it. It's wrong," he said firmly.

Karai signed like it was the most strenuous thing she'd done all day, "You're starting to bore me."

I was reaching for my dagger when Leo grabbed my hand. " Maddix, you don't have to do this," his wide, cobalt blue eyes gazing pleadingly down into mine as he pulled me in closer to him.

Why did he care so much about wether I stole the sword or not?

No one ever cared about me. Not even Andrew.

So, why does this young boy, who barely knows me, care? It made no sense to me.

Mind snapping back to the fact that he was still holding my hand, I yanked his hand away rather gruffly and said, "I can do what I want and what I want is that sword."

I don't really care wether or not I get the sword. It was really more Karai who wanted it. Actually, she wanted Leonardo to steal it to get some 'enjoyment out of this boring city' and 'prove even the goody-two-shoes are draw to darkness' as she phrased it.

Karai smirked as she came up behind Leo, who was currently distracted and put him into a submission hold, saying, "Well, this was fun and all, but now we got a sword to steal."

Guess we're still stealing it. Probably just wants to cause some mischief since she's been bored. Whenever she's bored trouble is soon to follow it seems.

I had only started walking away when I heard a voice yell out, "Leo!"

I turned around just as the red masked turtle approached us, expression just as shocked as Leo's as he demanded, "what? What are you doing? Who are they?"

"Um, Raph, this is Maddix and Karai. Maddix, karai, this is Raph," Leo stammered a pointless introduction as karai let him go.

"What are you, friends with them?" We're out there risking our necks and you're up here holding hands with the foot!" The one known as Raph ranted, arms crossed and accusing eyes drifting between the three of us.

"I can explain," Leo said quickly.

"This should be interesting," I muttered under my breath, arms folded.

Shooting me a look, Leo started stammering again, "You see, uh....The three of us share an appreciation for the fine craftsmanship of..." only for him to be cutoff as a growl echoed off the wall as a giant plant mutant appeared. It's Snarling, foaming mouth opened as he shouted something about revenge.

Oh, damn. What is that?

The killer plant sends one of his vines at us and in that split second with weapons drawn, all four of us dodged the attack.

As the monster attacked us, Raph could be heard in the background apologizing and reinstating Leo as their leader.

Karai and I watched the scene for a minute before we decided to leave.

"Maddix!" Someone called out as soon as I went to follow after karai, " Maddix! please! Help!"

Turning around, I ran in the direction of the voice as quickly as I could. I got to the scene and saw Leo struggling against the vines. As soon as he saw me, his voice got frantic as he pleaded, "please, help me!"

I gritted my teeth before throwing my dagger straight at the vine wrapped around Leo. I watched it gracefully soar through the air and slice the vine straight through releasing Leo in the process. Without another word I left the scene.

"I have no information at the moment to give you," I informed master shredder, feeling his cold stare on me immediately but not looking up at him.

Shredder exhaled loudly and stood from his throne. "Your failure to collect information will not tolerated!" His voice was progressively getting louder as he spoke. "You will get the requested information or face the consequences of failing me! Is that understood?!"

"I understand."
