Mission 30: Ferris Wheel

A/N: Fair warning I suck at writing romance. So don't expect much in this chapter.  Other than that, enjoy. =D

"You know we had that plan to go to Disneyland. There's a huge Ferris Wheel there. We should go there soon." Stiles mused. Steve perked up at that.

"When?" Steve asked.

"The day after tomorrow?" Stiles proposed, that would give them a day to have some rest and recuperate.

"Sure." Steve said, excitedly.

Stiles grinned and held up his tea. "For beating death three times today." Stiles toasted. Steve toasted with him and they drank their tea.

Phil arrived with Director Fury and Maria Hill. The man's relief upon seeing Stiles alive was evident. He run to Stiles and immediately hugged him. And Stiles just sank into his arms.

"You scared me half to death, kiddo." His uncle said, ruffling his hair. Stiles apologized but his uncle just waved it off. It was part of the job description. But it was harder because Stiles was family. "But you did good, Stiles. Good job with stopping Doom."

It was kind of weird seeing the Avengers sitting in this confetti covered temple and enjoying some refreshments with monks sorcerers. It was even weirder when Director Fury and Maria Hill joined them, sitting cross-legged and having tea. He decided to borrow Jackson's phone and take a selfie. He just had immortalized this moment. He was surprised that the SHIELD heads did not protest. Deputy Hill even asked him for a copy.

After that, they started discussing who will guard the Reality Stone. The Avengers had vetoed SHIELD from the start because of its history with the Tesseract. In the end, they couldn't decide who would be its permanent caretaker and settled with a temporary holding on the Sorcerer Supreme's hands. Stiles added a protection of his own in the box. It should keep any supernatural from taking it.

After some more deliberations between the SHIELD and Sorcerer Supreme, Stiles approached his uncle about Beacon Hills. His uncle agreed to send Parrish while Stiles couldn't. It might take a while before he could recover enough of his lifeforce to safely go back. Phil promised to get everything sorted out by tonight and send Parrish to Stiles the next morning for a briefing.

Stiles thank Doctor Strange and his sorcerers for the assists and apologized for dumping it on them without prior notice. Stephen gave him some papers and it was about recovering lifeforce. Stiles grinned and gave the man a big hug which was awkwardly received.

When they boarded the Avenjet, Stiles and Steve sat next to each other and not even a minute after, they had fallen asleep on each other.

When they arrived at the tower, Stiles pulled Steve into his room and Steve let himself be towed. Neither one of them wanted to be far from each other. Steve hesitantly joined Stiles in the younger man's bed.

"I need to call my dad." Stiles said. Steve held Stiles hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.

"Do you want me to stay?" Steve asked.

"Always." Stiles said with a smile.

It took a few rings but when the Sheriff answered, his voice made Stiles' chest heavy.

"Hey kid." The Sheriff greeted warmly.

"Hey dad." Stiles greeted

"Why'd you call?" The Sherriff asked a bit suspicious with the out of the blue call.

"I ... I just want to say I missed. And I'm sorry for making you angry and worried. And I know we're not in the best place right now but I want you to know that I love you-" His voice cracked at those 3 words. "-and I will try to make it up to you." Stiles said. He could feel the tear gathering in his eyes.

"Hey now kiddo. No matter what's happing between us, I will always love you. Remember that. Don't ever think for a second that I will stop loving you. Okay?"

"Okay, dad." Stiles was a little cloaked up.

"What brought this on? Is everything okay?" The sheriff asked worriedly.

"I'm fine, Dad. It's just things happen and I realized that I need to pay more attention to the people who are important to me."

"Okay. Are you sure that is all?"

"Yeah dad."

"Call me whenever you need to, okay?"

"Okay, Dad. I love you."

"I love you, too."

Steve pulled him into his arms when the call ended. The call had strung them out and neither one of them could fall asleep. So they decided to watch a movie from Steve's recommended list and went up to the communal area.

After a few minutes, Jackson's head poked in the room and asked if he could join in. Stiles patted the empty space on his right. The werewolf smiled and immediately jumped on to his side, curling his body around his packmate.

"Clint asked if he can join us?" Jackson asked after reading a text.

"If brings some popcorn." Stiles said.

After a few minutes, Clint barged in with a many bags of popcorn and perched on be headrest behind Jackson. Natasha came in to get some drink and decided to join them, bringing some soda from the kitchen. She took a seat beside Steve.

"I knew I smelled popcorn." Thor said and he settled himself on the floor in front of Stiles.

"Seriously you're having a movie night without me. First of all, rude. This my tower. Two, we need more food" Bruce settled on the floor in front of Natasha. Tony was off ordering more food and everyone was pitching in what they wanted.

Stiles turned to Steve. "This escalated quickly." Stiles said.

Tony sat between Thor and Bruce.

Stiles sank back to his seat and let himself relax on Steve. He sank further into Steve's warmth and enjoyed the peaceful moment of being this close to Steve and the people he loved.

The next morning, Parrish arrived early. Stiles explained his current situation and why he couldn't handle the situation himself. Then he briefed him about the situation in Beacon Hills and the dynamics in the supernatural society that he was aware of. He pointed out that Erica and Boyd might come in handy but forbade him in getting them mixed up with SHIELD. He cautioned him about Deaton, half of the time that man has an agenda of his own. He also opted out of sending Jackson back with Parrish. He didn't want to aggravate the situation. Whoever was causing harm to Beacon Hills might take it as a sign of war.

"I know this isn't much to go on but this is all the info I've got. The station hadn't digitalized the latest incidents. We'll be sending you as new deputy. The station is lacking a lot since the Kanima incident so dad might just put you on a case immediately."

Parrish nodded and took the files in front of him.

"One more thing. Actually two." From his pocket, Stiles took out two small amulets the size of dime and gave it to Parrish. "It has protection magic. It should keep you safe from evil spirits. And I've also added a masking spell to make you seem human. It's not at full strength. It might last a week or more. But that's enough time for me to recover. Give the other one to my dad."

Parrish nodded. "I'll do my best, sir."

Parrish got up and left. But before he got to the door, Stiles called him and he halted on his way. "This is not an order. Just a request. If you can, look out for my dad."

"If may say so myself, that's already given, sir." Parrish said. Stiles felt a tug at his heart. Parrish made a small nod and went on his way.

"I'll get Tony to get you something nice on Christmas!!!" Stiles shouted after the agent.

After that, Stiles called Harry Dresden and informed his about his situation. Harry promised to send someone as soon as he could find someone adept for case.

Phil had called the school earlier to excuse Stiles for the rest of the week. So Stiles spent most of his time baking while JARVIS reads an audio book on the background. Steve sat on the opposite side of the table and was sketching. He'd been benched for a few days as well.

After Stiles finished baking his last batch of brownie, Steve was still sketching.

"What are you sketching? You've been there for hours." Stiles asked.

Steve promptly looked up from his sketch book like a deer caught in the headlights. His cheeks flushed deeply.

"Captain McBlushie, what naughty sketches do you have there?" Stiles asked as he rounds the table and went to Steve's side. Steve pulled the sketched book to his chest.

"Oh no, it's not like that. It's... uh." Steve said.

Stiles raised an unbelieving eyebrow. Steve glared at him. "Well can I see then? I won't judge if it is. I know you do that in art school. Did you not?"

"I did. But this is...." Steve looked down at his sketch book. Stiles didn't need their bond to know the uncertainty and fear in Steve's eye. He had pushed him in a corner.

Stiles took a pity on him. Steve always drew with his heart. Something heavy must be in those sketches. "It's okay if you won't show me. I understand." Stiles gave Steve a reassuring smile and went back to baking.

Steve looked up at him. He surprised Stiles let it go that easily but at the same time he really was not. Because even if Stiles was nosy and a bit of an asshole, he was not much of a dick. He knew where scars that still stings because he had those scars. He knew that in spite of years passed, it could still be as overwhelming as the day he got wounded. And he never wanted to wish it on someone, especially not the people he cared about.

And Steve was one of those people. Stiles could hurt him. But he would never be cruel nor would he ever do it on purpose. He brought him back to life. Not even Tony Stark, the epitome of emotional constipation, could deny how much this boy care for him.

Steve could feel his last walls of hesitation crumbled.

"Stiles." Steve called. And the younger man looked back at him expectantly. He held up the sketch book. "You can take a look. I'm just a little embarrassed of what I drew in it."

Stiles scoffed. "Dude, you're a great artist. You got nothing to be embarrassed about."

Stiles abandoned his baking and excitedly went back to Steve. He took the sketchbook and opened it on the last page Steve was working on.

The sketch took him by surprise. It was him putting a baking pan inside the oven. Stiles look at Steve. The soldier was smiling shyly at him and his face was flushed again. Stiles flipped the page before that. It's a sketch of him beating eggs. The next few pages were of him baking earlier. Then there was one where he was looking at the confetti around him. Another one of him tracing a magic circle that he taught to Steve.

The last one was a bit older than the rest and it was in full color. It was that moment in the roof top when Stiles had just finished enchanting the vial of mountain ash glowing on Steve's hand and Stiles his face was gently illuminated.

"I guess that's the time when I realized I started feeling something for you." Steve spoke softly. Stiles turned back to Steve who was looking at the drawing with a gentle smile. Then he looked up at the younger man. "I didn't know what it was. I just know that I cared about you just as much as you cared about me. I'm sorry it took me so long to see it was more than just that."

Stiles touched Steve's shoulder and have it a soft squeeze of reassurance.

"Steve, it's okay because your worth it. Even if it was just that, it's okay too. You're the best guy there is. Being your friend is more than enough. I'm just grateful that I've found you in this life. Being with you is just the cherry on top."

Stiles winked at Steve and Steve chuckled. Stiles handed back the sketchbook to Steve and went back to his baking.

"I've already booked us tickets for tomorrow." Stiles said. "I think we should leave like 6 in the morning so we get there in like 7?"

Steve agreed. "Jarvis, please inform the team we're going out tomorrow."

"Will do so, Captain Rogers." The AI responded.

Stiles woke up early. He and Steve agreed to be on their way by 6 am to get to Disneyland by 7 am there in California. Even with the Avenjet's suborbital flight, it was still a long way.

When he got out of the showers, Jackson looked up from his phone and stared at Stiles. He kept on getting curious glances as he watched Stiles get dressed.

"What are you up to?" Jackson asked curious as Stiles put on a nice shirt that he forced the human to buy.

"Me and Steve are going to Disneyland today." Stiles answered honestly.

"Wait... What? When did you start planning? How come you didn't tell me?" Jackson asked.

"We've been talking about it for a long time. But we only got around it when we were at Katmandu. Almost dying got us thinking about doing the things we wanted to do. We might not have the chance to it with our line of work." Stiles said.

"Okay. Then I'm coming with you." Jackson as he got up their bed and then go to his room.

Oh no. Stiles couldn't let Jackson join them. That would ruin their plan.

"No you can't." Stiles squeaked. He cringed at how he sounded.

Jackson stopped on his tracks and looked at Stiles suspiciously. "Why not?"

"Because it's something me and Steve planned. Call it a post-traumatic, lived-to-see-another-day kind of bonding time."

Jackson frowned and worry creased between his brows. "You haven't told me what had happened. Is it that bad?"

"It's.... uhh..." Stiles thought of saying it someway else but everything else would feel like a lie. He couldn't lie to Jackson. Not even when he wanted to. "Yeah. It's pretty scary but I'll be okay."

"Maybe we should do it as a whole team- "

"No." Stiles cut in. That was just a recipe for disaster. "We really do not need for the whole team to cuddle me up. This is just something me and Steve agreed on to do. Besides you got school."

Stiles picked up his shoes and hurriedly put them on.

"You're deflecting." Jackson stated matter-of-factly and Stiles felt a little scared at how easy Jackson could read him now.

"I am not." Stiles finished tying his shoelace. He got up and swiftly taking everything he need so he could escape from Jackson's line of questioning. "And if you to go that badly, we'll go there some other time."

He gave Jackson a quick hug and he left the room. He didn't run like a scared deer but it was close to it. He only relaxed when he elevator door closed.

When he got to the communal room, Steve was already there.

"Hey." Stiles greeted. Steve looked up from his datapad and he smiled when he saw Stiles.

"Good morning." Steve said, offering Stiles a cup of coffee.

"Thanks. You always knew the way to my heart." Stiles said. He gave Steve a coy wink as his took a sip. Steve shook his head but fond smile was on his lips. "So... that's your disguise?"

Steve held up a finger and he took a baseball cap behind him and snuggly fit it on his head until his eyes is barely visible from view. Stiles had to agree that with his eyes obscured, Steve looked like every average joe. A very muscly average joe that is.

"Captain Rogers, system check is done. Everything is running on 100 percent capacity." JARVIS announced.

"Shall we?" Steve asked.

Stiles took one last big gulp of coffee before he sent it floating towards the sink.

"Let's go." Stiles answered excitedly.

They boarded the quinjet and they were off to Disneyland. During the flight Steve begun to teach Stiles about the basics of Quinjet flying. Stiles did a minor reading on piloting it. He was familiar with the controls and the mechanics behind it. He easily picked up on it with Steve's advices.

Satisfied with getting a grip with the basics, Stiles put the jet in autopilot. The Avenjet climbed higher altitude and voyaged on suborbital flight.

While on flight, Stiles and Steve discussed where they wanted to go. The whole day won't be enough to cover the entire place so they had to make do of their limited time.

They landed on discrete spot several hundred meters away from the park and walk the rest of the way.

Stiles could feel his excitement ready to burst as they castle came in to view. He was jumping on his toes as they waited for their tickets to get cleared.

"Welcome to Disney land!" Stiles exclaimed with jazz hands when they finally entered. Stiles grabbed Steve's hand and excitedly towed him around. Steve was amazed by the place. Even at the entrance, he could tell the detail put into this park was generous.

First they go to the nearest section that Steve wanted to visit and took some pictures. Stiles could tell Steve was itching to sketch everything. If Steve had his way, he would prop Stiles somewhere and sketch all day. Stiles had different ideas because he sucked at art. He eyed the rides with keen interest. He gleefully tugged at Steve towards the rides and Steve followed with mild amusement.

"Falling to our almost death ruined me for any ride forever." Stiles groused when then roller coaster finally stopped. Steve chuckled. The man didn't even get phased by the dives and 360 degree rolls. Stiles for his part got a mildly unsettled stomach but the fear was not there anymore which was the point of the whole ride.

The haunted house was even worse. His magic, even if it was weak, knew he wasn't in any danger and that just took out the fun of being in a haunted house. He didn't get surprised at all.

"Is it okay if I fake being afraid to cling in your arms?" Stiles asked.

"That'll be rude for the scarers, Stiles."

"What if I-" Stiles begun but Steve cut him off before he could finish his sentence.

"No." Steve said sternly.

"But you didn't even let me finish."

"I know you want to use your magic to make everything scarier. And no, you can't use your magic to make everything scarier." Steve said patiently.

"Bummer." Stiles mumbled. But he felt Steve took his hand and he did not let go until they reached the end of the tunnel. Stiles couldn't really complain now.

"They do know I can sense them right?" Stiles asked and took a sip on his chocolate shake. They've been zipping around park for several hours. With Stiles' almost constant sugar rush due to the unending supplies of sweets and Steve's super soldier stamina, they have covered half of Steve's go to list.

Steve didn't even look around. He must have seen them earlier. "They've never been known to keep out of other people's business."

Stiles squinted at couple who looked vaguely familiar and recognized who they were. He sputtered wordlessly. He can't even.

"Even my uncle's here." Stiles complained when he saw his uncle strolling causally with Agent May. He noted how they were holding hands. Some of the Bus teams had been milling around too. Steve sat straight up at the mention of Stiles' uncle. Stiles noticed the sudden uncertainty in Steve's eyes. "Dude, relax. My uncle already loves you. I'd probably get the worse end with him, not you."

Steve became silent and he looked like he was thinking hard about something serious. Stiles got concerned and offered his cotton candy. "Some sugar sweetness for your thoughts?"

Steve smiled and took a big bite. He then moved closer to Stiles. "I know we haven't had talked about this seriously but I want to do this right."

Stiles patted Steve's shoulder to shake off his nerves.

"I know, Steve. That is just who you are and I respect that. We won't do anything we are not comfortable with, I promise. But I'm not sure how we are going to talk about this with Dad."

Both of them cringed.

"But we have to tell him sooner than later." Steve said like he bit something bitter and just swallowed it.

"Agreed. But not that soon." Stiles pleaded.

"Agreed." Steve said.

Stiles saw Jackson and Clint moved closer to them, close enough for Jackson to hear them clearly over the crowd. He realized the others had closed in too.

"Oh come on! They're not even hiding anymore." Stiles pouted and Steve laughed at him. Then Stiles had a brilliant idea and whispered it to Steve. Steve agreed and they turned off their phones.

Steve looked at him worriedly. "Are you sure you can do it safely"

"I got enough for two trips." Stiles said, standing up and offering his hand. "Let's get some privacy."

Steve took his hand and Stiles pulled him up and started running away from everyone. Stiles snapped his fingers and a tornado of confetti surrounded them, obscuring them effectively from everyone. Stiles whispered the teleportation spell and the world shifted around them. And the next second they were running through the streets of Brooklyn. This should buy them a good hour before SHIELD and Tony finished running their facial recognizing system.

They bought hotdogs and strolled across Brooklyn bridge. They stopped by the middle and watched the scenery. It was a good thing Stiles brought a camera. They could snap some pictures without worrying about Tony pinging them.

There was something that kept nudging at Stiles' attention since they started this date. Stiles felt like this wasn't the first time they came here nor the first time they have done this before. Like he woke up from a dream but he couldn't remember what he dreamed about.

"Do you feel like we've done this before?" Stiles asked.

Steve sharply looked at Stiles and nodded. "A little." Steve admitted.

"Does it bother you?" Stiles asked.

Steve thought of it for a second but it didn't really bother him. In fact, it calmed him down and silenced the thoughts that this might be a mistake. "No." Steve took his hand. "It feels just right."

Stiles smiled at that and decided to forget about this strange feeling. They started strolling again and Steve did not let go of his hands even with all the people looking at them.

They went to a nearby carnival. Steve had once told Stiles about his cringe worthy double date with Bucky. Maybe Stiles could overwrite that with something better. They went through the games like crazy and won every one of them. They only stopped when Steve accidentally hit the High Striker game too hard. The mallet snapped in half and the puck got stuck on the bell. Steve profusely apologized to the angry owner while Stiles pulled Steve away, not caring about their price anymore. Stiles used his magic to repair the damage when they were out of sight. No more games for Mr. Steve Too Strong Rogers.

"The sun's getting low." Stiles said. Steve looked at the sky. "We better get in line if we want catch that sunset."

They lined up for the Ferris wheel. Stiles took some more pictures of them while they waited for their turn.

When it was their turn and they get in the cart, Stiles snatched his baseball cap and tousled his hair a lot. Steve glared at him and Stiles snickered.

"At ease, soldier." Stiles said as he readied the camera. Steve was fixing his hair with one hand and he looked damn good. Steve took a candid shot. Steve heard the shutter and looked at Stiles.

"Hey. I wasn't ready." Steve said, brushing the fallen locks on his forehead.

"It looks good. Say cheese." Stiles said. Steve left his hair as it was and posed with that small smile only meant for Stiles. Every time Stiles took a picture, his heart beat erratically.

"Let me take yours." Stiles gave the camera to Steve. Steve was about to take the picture but he paused. The glasses were obscuring Stiles eye and they didn't shine as brightly as they normally did. "Can you remove your glasses?" Steve asked.

"Oh okay." Stiles removed his beanie then he removed his glasses. Stiles looked up from under his lashes, his whiskey brown eyes looked honey gold. Steve was mesmerized. It took his breath away. He was almost in a daze when he took Stiles pictures.

"Hey look, I can see the Tower from here!" Stiles pointed.

Steve mentally shook himself. He never knew that it was possible to be pulled in this sort of gravity. It was like the very stars themselves were pulling at him and he fell effortlessly. It almost left him breathless.

"That ugly ass tower can still be seen here?" Steve asked, incredulously. Stiles laughed. "Don't tell Tony I said that."

"I make no promises." Stiles said shaking his head.

They were almost at the top and the sunlight flittered in their cart in a perfect angle. The space they were in seemed to glowed magically. Stiles couldn't help but stare at Steve. The warm embers of the setting sunlight made his features softer and his clear azure eyes seemed to lit up brighter like the first star in the night sky.

Stiles felt drawn to the older man. His heart thundered in his chest as he slowly leaned forward, giving the man time to stop him but he didn't. Instead, Steve met Stiles half way and they kissed while the sun is setting down the horizon. Something in him clicked, like for the first time in his whole life, things just started falling in the right places. Yet his heart feels like it would beat right out of chest. And their bond woke up and sang with raw emotions. Stiles magic came alive and he could feel it enveloping both of them.

Stiles touched Steve's jaw and tilted his head to kiss the man deeper. Steve made a guttural sound that made heat pooled in Stiles' belly and made Stiles moan a little. It was almost too much but all too little at the same time.

Steve pulled back slowly. His face was flushed and he was breathing a little deeper and a little faster. His lips tingled with the memory of Stiles lips. Stiles was affected just as much.

"Wow." It was all Stiles could say. Steve smiled at him and a breathless laugh escaped him.

"Are you okay this?" Steve asked wanting to knowing if he was pushing too much.

"I am more than okay with this." Stiles said and Stiles gave Steve a quick peck on the lips. They couldn't stop smiling at each other. Stiles might be a little besotted.

They took some more pictures before pulling back their disguise. When they got off the Ferris Wheel, Steve took his hand and they started strolling around the carnival. The lights around them were coming alive and the place almost looked like magical picturesque out of a romantic movie flick.

There was only one thing missing and Stiles made sure it happened. He pointed a finger to the ground and shot a spell.

"Look up." Stiles said. And when Steve did look up, a fireworks show lit up the early night sky. The carnival got quite as people watch the fiery spectacle.

Steve wrapped an arm around Stiles and pulled him close. And Stiles felt himself melt on his side and Stiles could not find a perfect place than by his side. "I guess this is a pretty good ending for a date." Stiles surmised.

"I guess it is." Steve smiled softly at him and gave him a tender kiss on the forehead.
