chapter thirty nine

she was tortured. cut. hurt. thrown around. left in a dark, cold room all alone.

but she survived.

she dove to block the bullet directing at peter parker, hitting her directly in the stomach.

but she survived.

seven's arms were over my shoulders as we escaped the filthy place. she gripped onto her stomach tightly, wincing in pain every step of the way. she hadn't said anything since we left the room, which worried me. she would usually give the instructions on where to go, since she had the ability to map out whole places with her head and find dead ends. instead, she pointed the directions with her other hand.

but i finally knew what happened.

once we were out of their reach, she dropped onto the ground, leaning onto the wall as she tried to slow down her breathing. that was when i saw it.

she got shot.

"why didn't you say anything! are you okay?" i exclaimed, looking at her wound. there was no exit wound, which meant the bullet was stopping most of the bleeding. she was pale, cold sweat dripping from her forhead and her neck. i got to get help.

i picked her up slowly bridal style before webbing us our hideout.

"you're okay. you're gonna be okay."

that was all i heard as i slipped in and out of consciousness. the pain was excruciating. yes, i got shot before in the past. yes, i had dealt with worse pain than this. but this just felt different. i felt like i wouldn't survive this.

i could hear us landing onto the platform and forced my eyes open to see natasha. with every once of strength that i had, i walked towards her and embraced her tight. but it didn't last long as i felt myself losing consciousness.

they're going to worry so much.

seven is that you?! oh my gosh where are you??

it's bucky.

seven???

"i'm fine."

i think i said that out loud. but it's the same context so, whatever. we were running somewhere, but my eyelids were really heavy. i tried to get out of someone's grip but they were holding me tight, forcing me to back down. i felt myself breathing heavily, prying myelf out of theur arms. then i heard myself as i cried out loud in pain, but having no idea where the pain came from. because my whole body is in excruiciating pain

i'm fine.

do you know how worried natasha was? how we all were?

'm fine. at the tower.

oh thank the lords

"get her on the bed!" i could hear stephen's voice in the distance before thr person settled my body down onto something hard.

my eyes immediately shot open to see two people donning surgical gowns and gloves, face covered with a mask...

and she freaked out.

it was the first time i had seen her in so much pain and fear, both in one. i never knew such an expression like that even existed. she tried to climb her way out of dr helen cho and uncle stephen's grasp, all of which to no avail. she begged and begged, holding tightly to her wound as tears fell down her cheeks like beads.

but despite that, all of us had no idea what was going on: if it was the shock or the pain that caused such a large reaction. all of us, but natasha.

"strange!" natasha exclaimed over the intercom, "take off your mask, let her know it's just you. she's just freaked out because the last time she was on a surgical table seeing two people with surgical gowns, they cut out half of her brain."

uncle stephen immediately ripped off the mask from his face and told seven to look at him.

"seven- kid, hey!" i exclaimed as i took off my mask. she looked at me, face drained of colour and in tears. "it's me, stephen. you're gonna be okay. i'm not gonna take off the other half of your brain," i said, which made her flinch, "it'll be okay. you have a gun wound in your side. if i don't remove it, you'll die. it's going to be fine, okay?"

she nodded her head, gripping on to my hand tightly. "please..," she whispered before starting to fade in and out of consciousness, then she mouthed two words. i could feel my heart dropping instantly.

"okay, let's begin," i looked at the anesthesist who nodded his head. we took the bullet out successfully and she proceeded to rest in her bedroom. we set everything up for her: IV drips, a jug of water, heartrate monitors, dialled the brightness level down and ensured that her room was sound proof.

i turned to leave the room when i saw something glowing on the wall. but i'm just so glad she's finally home again.
