Ch. 22

This is a soft chapter! It's also a little short. Sorry!

Billie's POV

"Alissa you have to eat something baby. Come on I made you some soup," I sit the bowl down on the nightstand and rub her arm gently.

All of this has been so hard on her and I can't stand it. Since she lost Harley she's always been really scared of one of us getting into an accident. The horrified look on her face when we got the call is stuck in my memory now. Seeing Mila's lifeless body all bruised and bloody in the hospital, Alissa screaming. I can't stop thinking about it.

It's been three months and I don't know how to fix my family. At this point we all need counseling.

I know it's driving Alissa crazy that we can't see Mya and comfort her, but I keep reminding her it's for the best. We'll get a chance to see her soon.

"I'll take it from here," Bianca says as she quietly comes into the bedroom. "There is someone downstairs for you."

I kiss Alissa's head then go downstairs to see Blaze standing in my living room. I have no energy in me to be mad at her so I'll have to be civil today.

"Blaze. What's going on?" I motion for her to sit with me on the couch.

"First I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. I wanted to come back but my man-"

"It's fine Blaze," I cut her off hoping she'll get to the point.

"Right," she clears her throat. "Um I found out some disturbing news and I'm not sure if you were told. Mya was raped that night of the accident."

I sigh. "We know. The blood on her legs didn't make sense to the doctors so while she was sedated they did a rape kit. The idiots left so much semen on her that it was easy to find them."

"Oh. Wow I'm sorry," she looks down.

"Don't be. It wasn't your fault," I tell her. "Thank you for trying to do the right thing."

She nods. "Do you think I could visit her?"

"She hasn't been allowed to have visitors since we took her back. Alissa and I will get to see her for the first time next week. I'll put your name on the list then you should be able to visit."

She smiles. "Thank you so much Billie. I know you don't really like me but I do care about Mya."

"Blaze all this time I was trying to protect my daughter from you when I should have been protecting her from herself. For that I owe you an apology. Mya needed help long before she ever met you."

"Well I'll do whatever I can to help her get better. She deserves to live a good life," she says sincerely.

I let out a sigh of relief once Blaze is gone. The past few months have been torture and for some reason I feel like things may be turning around soon.

Mya's POV

"Good morning sunshine," Leah says cheerfully as she waltz in my room with food.

I like Leah. It's only been a few days, but she makes me feel better. She's always so positive and happy, and I want to be like that. I'm actually glad she's my nurse.

"I've been up since five this morning," I inform her.

"Do you need more sleeping pills?" she sits the tray down for me and I take a seat at the small table.

"No. I'm going to get passed this on my own."

"Mya you're not doing anything alone. There's a lot of people who care about you and want to see you thrive. You ask for help anytime you need it," she sits across from me.

I nod and start to eat my lukewarm pancakes. She watches me silently like I'm the most interesting person she's ever met. When I look up at her she just smiles.

"Why are you staring at me?"

"Because you're beautiful," she says boldly. "Does it bother you?"

"No," I blush. "I mean a little."

"I'll stop. I apologize," she says.

"No it's ok. It just makes me nervous," I place my fork down and look at her. "I look like shit and you're staring at me like I'm a fucking work of art."

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," she giggles. "I guess I like the sleep deprived look."

This makes me laugh, like a real belly laugh. I haven't done that in a while.

"Do I hear laughter?" My doctor says as he steps into the room. "Looks like your new nurse was a good choice after all."

I look down at my plate and stay silent.

"It's ok Mya. I just came in to say that your moms are coming to visit in a few days and your therapy session is getting pushed back to this afternoon."

With that he walks out, closing the door behind him. I can't believe I'll finally get to see my moms. I'm so nervous. What if they're angry with me because of what happened? What if they don't want me to come home anymore? My mood instantly changes and I lose my appetite.

"Hey," Leah says pulling me out of my thoughts. "Where did you just go?"

I just shake my head, not wanting to talk about it.

She sighs. "Well I got you something. I remembered you said you use to draw a lot as a kid so I asked for permission and got you this."

She pulls a sketchbook and some pencils out of her bag and slides it over to me. I pick up the book and open it. The first page says:

Life can be beautiful if you draw it that way. -Leah

I smile. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," she smiles too. "As your self proclaimed life coach, I am assigning you homework. Draw me a picture of the best day ever. Oh and finish your food."

She pats me on the head then leaves me alone. I take another bite of my pancakes then pick up a pencil and start to draw.
