It was on her third day of being at the Weasley's Burrow when Ron pulled Gwen aside after dinner.

ย  'Remember we were talking about getting Harry?'

ย  Gwen nodded. She and Ron had spent most of their time together these last couple days trying to come up with ways to contact Harry without him getting in trouble.

ย  'Dad's enchanted a Muggle car. Fred and George had an idea.'

ย  He brought Gwen up to Fred and George's room, who were playing exploding snaps. When they walked in, they wore matching grins.

ย  'She in?' Fred said.

ย  'In what?'

ย  Ron, Fred and George beckoned her to sit down. The three of them ran through a plan they had; they would fly Mr Weasley's enchanted car to Surrey to get Harry out of the Muggle house. They'd bring him back to the Burrow. The reason why: Mr Weasley had let it slip that Harry had received an official warning for using magic outside of school.

ย  Gwen was immediately on board.

ย  'Of course, when are we going?'

ย  George grinned. 'Tonight. We can be there and back before Mum and Dad find out.' That was true; Mr and Mrs Weasley were usually in bed at ten, and Fred explained that it would only take about six hours to get to Surrey and back.

ย  'Only?' Gwen said.

ย  George sighed. 'Well we can't use Floo, the Muggles won't have a fireplace connected to the system. And broomsticks would be way too cold.'

ย  Gwen nodded. Ron was looking at a spot on the wall, thinking deeply. 'We'll be back by seven latest. If we go a bit faster, we could make it by six.'

ย  That was a bit late - Mrs Weasley was often awake before six, and Mr Weasley was usually at work before then. She didn't like the idea of betraying the trust of teh two people who had graciously allowed her to stay in their home, but given the circumstances, she was sure they'd understand.

ย  'Alright,' she said. 'When are we leaving.'

ย  At nine thirty that evening, Gwen joined Ron and the twins downstairs. They were playing exploding snap in the living room, waiting for everyone to go upstairs. Mrs Weasley was in the kitchen, finishing up whatever it was that she was doing. Percy had gone to his room after dinner and Ginny was in hers. Mr Weasley appeared briefly to say goodnight to Gwen, Ron, Fred and George, and had retired upstairs.

ย  It wasn't long before Mrs Weasley said goodnight and told them not to stay up too late, and then, they were alone.

ย  Fred stood up. 'Let's go.'

ย  Gwen followed the three Weasleys to the garage outside, where, inside, was a turquoise Muggle car. She'd seen them before, of course, but she'd never stood next to, or even ever been inside them.

ย  'Wow,' she murmured, climbing inside. It was small inside, but cosy and she grew excited about her first journey in a car, even if it was an enchanted one.

ย  Fred took the wheel, Ron took the passenger seat, and Gwen and George settled themselves in the backseat.

ย  The engine spluttered as it started. Gwen felt the rumble in the seats and, as Fred accelerated out of the garage, the car seemed to struggle slightly. But then they were in the air, flying high over the dark hills of the English countryside, the stars above them glittering the sky like a sparkling blanket covering the sky.

ย  The journey to Surrey took just under three hours, and the four of them spent it chatting about school and deciding what the Muggles had done to keep Harry from sending letters.

ย  When they arrived on Harry's street, Privet Drive, they knew immediately which was the Dursleys' house; Gwen gasped when she saw bars on one of the windows.

ย  'Three guesses whose room that is,' said Ron.

ย  Fred pulled the car in so that it was hovering in front of the bars, and Ron rolled down his window, peering through them. Gwen and George leaned forward, trying to see too, and Fred was watching over Ron's shoulder. The window was open, and, through the metal bars, Gwen could see Harry's sleeping figure, shifting in his sleep.

ย  'Harry!' Ron hissed. 'Harry!'

ย  'Harry Potter!' Gwen said loudly, immediately being shushed by the other three. Her shout worked though, because Harry stirred and opened his eyes. He blinked furiously, looking at the bars, then reached for his glasses on the bedside table. The oddity of the situation seemed to dawn on him, and perhaps he thought he was still dreaming, until, finally, he sat upright, mouth wide.

ย  'Ron! Ron how did you-- what are you--?'

ย  He seemed to only just notice the car. His mouth dropped open once again, and his green eyes took in everyone else.

ย  'Alright Harry?' said George.

ย  Gwen put a finger to her lips, grinning at Harry and sending him a wink. 'What's been happening?' she whispered. 'You haven't answered any of our letters, and Mr Weasley said you got a warning for using magic in front of Muggles.'

ย  'It wasn't me,' said Harry. 'And how did he know?'

ย  'He works for the Ministry,' Ron explained. 'You know we're not allowed to use magic outside of school.'

ย  'It wasn't me,' he repeated, 'besides, you lot can talk.'

ย  'This is Dad's,' Fred said, patting the wheel. 'We didn't enchant it, we're just borrowing it. Besides, magic in front of Muggles--'

ย  Harry suddenly looked urgent. 'I told you, I didn't do it. It's too long to explain now, but can you please tell Hogwarts that the Dursleys are keeping me locked here and that I can't magic myself out because the Ministry will think that's the second spell I've done in three days--'

ย  Ron laughed. 'Stop gibbering, we're bringing you home with us.'

ย  'But you can't magic me out either--'

ย  'Have you not noticed who we're with?' Gwen asked.

ย  Harry still looked utterly bewildered. George passed a rope from the backseat to Ron. 'Tie that around the bars.' Ron fed it through to Harry, who obeyed.

ย  'If the Dursleys wake up, I'm dead.'

ย  Fred just winked, then turned the car, revved the engine, and drove straight up into the air. The bars creaked then came clean off the window, dangling in mid air, and Ron worked to pull them up. The house remained silent.

ย  Fred reversed as close as he could to the window, and Gwen opened her side door.

ย  'Get in,' she said.

ย  'But-- my Hogwarts stuff--'

ย  'Where is it?'

ย  'It's all locked downstairs.'

ย  Gwen looked back at the twins. Fred nodded and George shrugged. Followed by the twins, Gwen climbed through Harry's open window; as Fred and George went to Harry's locked door, she carefully pulled the bars from Ron and threw them into the backseat.

ย  She hugged Harry briefly, wishing him a quick happy birthday for a few days before.

ย  George was picking the lock with a hair pin.

ย  'It's an old Muggle trick,' Fred explained as she peered over his shoulder. 'Most people think they're useless, but we think they're worth learning.'

ย  As if on cue, the door clicked open, and George straightened up, grinning.

ย  'Get anything you need from your room and give it to Ron,' he whispered.

ย  'Watch out for the bottom stair,' Harry told them, 'it creaks.'

ย  Gwen and the twins crept onto the landing, feeling their way around the dark house. It was pitch black, and finding the stairs was difficult. That was, until Gwen's foot slipped on the top step.

ย  A small gasp escaped her lips; she prepared to go tumbling, waking the whole house and destroying their plan, when a pair of hands caught around her waist, steadying her.

ย  'Watch yourself,' George whispered, then carefully began descending the stairs. Gwen was suddenly glad for the darkness as she felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. She steeled herself, then followed him and Fred down the stairs.

ย  George had already started on his hair pin trick, and, within seconds, the cupboard door opened. It was filled with Harry's spell books and supplies and one by one, the three of them brought the books and equipment up the stairs. The trunk was the last thing, and Harry ran down to help Fred and George lug it up the stairs, skipping the bottom step as Harry had instructed. As Gwen helped the three of them load it into the boot of the car, a cough from the master bedroom made them all freeze. When no other movement was heard, they kept going.

ย  Gwen climbed back into the back seat, kicking the bars onto the floor, followed by Fred and George, and then finally, Harry.

ย  It was as Harry stepped onto the windowsill that a loud screech filled the room, followed by a thunderous shout from Harry's uncle.

ย  'THAT RUDDY OWL!'

ย  Gwen's heart almost stopped. She'd never seen Harry move so quickly, not even when he was playing Quidditch; he tore across the room, seized Hedwig's cage, and practically threw it at Ron in the front seat. The landing light went on-- Harry seized Gwen's hand--

ย  Vernon Dursley was still as fat and purple as when Gwen had seen him two months ago. He stared at the scene for half a second, then dived at Harry, howling like an angry bull, his small, fat hand gripping Harry's ankle.

ย  George and Gwen held onto Harry, pulling him as hard as they could into the car-- they grappled for a second-- Mr Dursley roared-- Gwen and George held tight as they could--

ย  'FRED, DRIVE!'

ย  The car belted forward; Harry fell backwards against Gwen and George; Mr Dursley yelled and toppled from the open window, landing on some perfectly pruned bushes. Harry reached forward, slammed the door shut, leaned out to see his uncle.

ย  'See you next summer!' he shouted, and the other four laughed loudly.
