Chapter 13: Fox Doing A Madness

Claire - "You got to be joking, right?"

Ryan - "No, I am telling the truth."

Claire - "Even if your dad has his own studio, you shouldn't lie like this."

Ryan - "I am not lying."

Claire - "You don't want me to really believe that you, a 13-year-old kid, not only wrote a movie Script but even managed to sell it to a big company like Fox."

Ryan - "But I am not lying."

Claire - "Alright, consider your somehow not lying. What genre did you write in?"

Ryan - "Horror"

Claire - "Okay, now I definitely know that you are lying. There is no way a 13-year-old kid can write a horror movie."

Ryan - "I really did."

Claire - "I have to give you one thing, though. You clearly researched us. Otherwise, you wouldn't mention a genre I like."

"Where did you get this private information from?"

"Maybe the person who told you your intel forgot to mention how much I hate liars."

Ryan - "I had no clue you liked horror movies. That's a complete coincidence. "

Claire - "Oh yeah, a coincidence, for sure."

Ryan - "I am sure I can prove that I wrote a script."

Claire - "Oh yeah, how are you going to prove that?"

Ryan - "I can call the director if you want."

Claire - "Oh yeah, fine, call him."

Ryan then took out his phone and searched for the contact info of Marcus Nispel. That right Ryan had explicitly asked for him, and Fox had delivered.

Ryan - "It's ringing."

Claire - "Yes, I am waiting."

Marcus - "Hi Ryan, how are you doing? What's up."

Ryan - "Oh, nothing much. I was just calling to ask how the casting has been going? It has been a week so."

Marcus - "The casting is going amazing. As a matter of fact, I was going to call you."

"Danielle Panabaker (aka Catlin Snow) liked the script so much that she decided to work for just 100,000 dollars."

"Her only request was to meet the writer of the movie. It took Fox by surprise to the point they decided to give her two percent of the box office as compensation."

"then an even bigger bombshell dropped Jared Padalecki wanted in and decided to do it for 250,000 plus another two percent of the box office."

"With two stars added, Fox decided to double the marketing budget from 3 to 6 million."

"You know, if they didn't increase the marketing budget, I would have thought Fox had little faith in the movie."

"You know, with my 3 percent of the box office and your 8 percent, Fox would be giving out 15 percent in total."

Ryan was left flabbergasted by these unexpected changes that happened. He really underestimated fox's generosity for this movie.

They generously gave up 15 percent of the box office like that to save money. Ryan could already see the regretful faces of fox executives.

He also understood that they gave up so much box office to show appreciation to the actor and directors.

Knowing that both actors had previously worked with fox, it made sense for Fox to value them, but still, so many things happened that it was completely unexpected.

Claire - "Alright, cut the crap. Whoever you called does sound professional, but I ain't buying it. How much did you pay him? 100 dollars?"

Ryan was brought back to reality by Claire. He had almost forgotten she was still sitting there listening.

Marcus - "Who was that?"

Ryan - "Well, I am trying to convince my friend's mom that I wrote a script. Any advice?"

Marcus - "Interesting I always thought you were the humble kind but then again, we just talked on the phone before."

At that moment, the inexperienced Ryan realized something that he might have by mistake shown off too much causing his current situation.

Claire got up from the sofa - "Okay, it's getting late. I think you should get going. Clearly, you couldn't prove anything."

Marcus - "Wait, I can easily prove it."

Claire stopped and asked, "Oh yeah, how is that?"

Marcus - "You can type Friday the 13th on Google and head to the IMDb website. It will clearly show Ryan's name in the credits for the writer."

Ryan in his mind - "Uh, IMDB exists? Why didn't I think of that."

Claire - "Alright, let's take a look."

Claire then searched for it and found the project under the development section.

She then found Ryan Williams's name on the writer credits.

She clicked and found Ryan's image and information.

Even Ryan was shocked to find that he had an entire professional page on IMDb.

Ryan - "Uh, found it, thanks. By the way, who created my IMDB page?"

Marcus - "Oh, your dad did it as fox wanted you to be represented properly."

Ryan - "Thanks, Marcus. I owe you one. If I have a new project, I will not forget to invite you."

Marcus - "Alright then, bye I have work to do."

Ryan - "Bye"

Claire stood there frozen and didn't know how to react. At that very moment, Alex came downstairs to find Ryan sitting on their couch.

Alex - "Ryan, when did you come over?"

Ryan - "Oh, just a few minutes ago, I wanted to invite you over to my place to study, but your mom suggested we study at your house."

Alex - "Alright, I will just go freshen up."

Ryan - "Yeah, no problem."

Alex then headed back upstairs. Ryan looked at Claire, and Claire looked at Ryan.

Ryan - "Look, I know that me writing a script can come as a shock, plus I might have come off cocky."

"So I hope there are no hard feelings among us, but I will say if it were anyone else in my position, he would have run away by now. "

"Fortunately, I am not just any other guy. I am Ryan."

Claire - "Look, Ryan, I am sorry I am just very protective of my children."

Ryan - "I get that. I would only request that you don't judge me before you get to know me. I will be doing the same as well."

Claire - "Alright, I will reintroduce myself. I am Alex's mom Claire."

Ryan - "I am just your friendly neighborhood, Ryan."
