I'm your star, I shine as if there's nothing wrong

//

She steps out of the shower quietly, careful not to wake him.

From where she's getting dressed, she can see the rise and fall of his chest consistently, his blonde hair splayed out messily on one side of the pillow and the tiny frown on his lips he always gets when he's deep in sleep.

But then one hand reaches out onto the empty space on the bed beside him, feeling through the sheets and she's moving her feet quickly, crawling into her side of the bed as careful and gentle as she can before grabbing onto his hand.

Yoongi releases a soft grunt but stays in the same position even after a few seconds and she sighs in relief. She snuggles closer to his warmth, closes her eyes and slowly, intertwines their fingers together.

When she wakes up the next morning, it's to a too loud alarm and Yoongi missing from bed and she panics because it's 830am and she's definitely going to be late for work, rushing to pull away the sheets as she stumbles out of bed, leaving the question of why he didn't wake her up to the back of her head for the time being so she can focus completely on getting ready fast enough.

She's out the shower in five minutes and has one side of her blazer hanging off her shoulder when she sneaks a glance into the kitchen and promptly drops her bag at the sight of Yoongi in an apron.

"What the hell-"

He cuts her off before she can finish. "Where are you going?"

She blinks, then realizes she has no time to chit chat with him as she breezes past the kitchen without sparing him another glance. "Work! I'm already late!"

"What? Chaeyoung! Wait-"

But none of it goes into her ears, at least not until he's tugging her by the arm and the kitten heels she's trying to wear goes flying out of her hands.

"Chaeyoung! It's Saturday!"

She freezes, brain still trying to process the situation. "What?"

"Today's the start of the weekend, you don't have to go to work."

"Oh."

Yoongi frowns promptly at her. "Sweetheart, are you sure you're alright? You seem so out of it recently."

"Yeah, I-I've just been...busy with work, that's all," she mumbles, and hopes he doesn't notice her stutter.

But Yoongi's more sharp than she expects, and he raises a brow as he drops the question she didn't think she would ever hear.

"So busy it makes you come home late every night?"

Her eyes widen at having been caught. "I thought you were asleep."

"I was, but you're not so quiet like you think you are when you slip into bed beside me."

It's her turn to frown this time. "Are you saying I'm clumsy?"

He laughs a little, and the mood in the room shifts slightly away from being too tense.

"I never said that."

She crosses her arms over her chest. "You were implying that."

"Think whatever you want," he smiles, and just when she thinks they're over the topic he goes ahead to add, "but call in sick on Monday. You need to rest."

She feels a sigh escaping her lips. "Stop making a big deal out of this Yoongi, I'm fine."

"No, you're not," he argues, switching to his firm I'm-not-joking tone. She nearly rolls her eyes. "You're overworking yourself and you don't even know it."

"This amount of work is nothing if it gets me my transfer."

"Transfer? What's wrong with your current department?"

Chaeyoung swallows. "Nothing, I just wanted a change of an environment."

He narrows his eyes at her, but if he's suspicious he doesn't say a word.

"Just promise me, no more overtime okay?"

She hates lying to him, but she has no choice, for now at least, so she ignores the uncomfortable churning of her stomach and forces out a smile. "Okay."

Her first mistake is thinking that she would be able to finish all her work by the end of today.

So she skips lunch, drowns in three cups of black coffee to fill out her excel sheets that just don't seem to end, not taking her eyes off the screen and barely even catching the concerned look Lisa throws her as she bids her goodbye until the front row lights automatically turn off due to the fixed timing and she jumps in her seat.

Blinking, she glances around at the empty office when she realizes everyone's left and she'd stayed back after office hours without even knowing again.

Her stomach growls suddenly and she realizes that she's actually starving. She releases a tired sigh, standing up to stretch briefly before heading for the staff's lounge.

Her second mistake is assuming everyone had left the office.

Because the last person she wishes to see and the one person she's been trying to avoid all week is refilling his coffee with his back towards her, and she realizes a little too late because he's turning around, smiling when he catches her trying to backtrack out of there as fast as she can.

Chaeyoung tries not to shiver in discomfort when he steps towards her and smiles disconcertingly.

"I didn't know you were still around, Chaeyoung," Seokjin starts, and she hates the way he tries to sound friendly and close by using her first name.

"I didn't know you were still here too, Mr Kim," she replies, distancing herself quickly.

"Please, call me Seokjin."

She presses her lips into a thin line, "I don't think that's appropriate Mr Kim."

He waves her off with a laugh and touches her shoulder briefly. "It's after office hours, plus no one's around."

She shrugs and tries to step back discreetly. He smiles even more when he catches it from the corner of his eye.

"Still, you are my supervisor. I think the need for respect is necessary," she argues and hopes he doesn't step any closer to her.

But he ignores her hint, pushing forward determinedly and the layout of the lounge works to his advantage, because Chaeyoung finds her back pressed flat against the wall sooner or later, with nowhere to run this time.

Her third mistake is forgetting to take her phone along with her and she realizes it as soon as he leans closer and eats into her space.

"We can always be more than that," he whispers, dropping his voice and she wants to cringe at the implication.

It's no shock now after two months of working here, and one month of Seokjin being transferred as the new head of the department she's working under that he's displayed his interest obviously for her and has been trying to hit on her every time he gets the chance despite her reminding him repeatedly that she's already attached.

"I have a boyfriend, Mr Kim," she says firmly, hoping he gets it through his thick head because she doesn't know how much longer she can be patient with him.

"I just want to get to know you better. I mean your boyfriend can come if you feel uncomfortable," he suggests, but that loose lipped smile still doesn't drop from his face and it only makes her throat grow tighter.

"I'm sorry, but I think I have to decline."

Seokjin drops the smile he's wearing and clicks his tongue. "Why do you have to play so hard to get?"

"I'm not. I'm just not interested," she corrects firmly, keeping eye contact.

He stares at her in silence and she stares back, trying to hold her ground and she nearly sighs in relief when he finally makes to back away.

"Well, I guess I have no choice, right?"

"Thanks for unders-"

Her final mistake is letting her guard down too quickly.

Seokjin's hand comes slamming down against the wall behind her, just barely missing the skin of her face and she jumps, eyes widening as he presses in way too close for comfort.

"I wasn't done," he whispers, and her breath hitches as he dares to graze his lips against her earlobe.

"I guess I have no choice but to do things my way," he informs, and she feels the shiver slide down her back because it sounds a fearful lot like a promise for a punishment that's about to come after testing too much of his patience, and she's right because she doesn't get to move fast enough before he's attaching his lips to her neck and biting down hard enough to cause a bruise.

She screams and fights to get out of his arms, but her voice gets muffled by his hand slapping over her mouth quickly.

"Shut up," he warns, eyes blazing as he tightens his hold and for the first time after encountering him, she actually feels afraid of his overpowering strength.

"We don't want to cause a ruckus, don't we?" he breathes, trailing a hand down her thigh and she whimpers helplessly as he tries to stick a hand under her skirt.

She nearly breaks down after realizing she obviously can't fight him with his arms locked around her, so she does the next alternative that comes to mind, remembering Yoongi's crash course on self-defence and lifts her knee before crashing it into his body.

And she thinks she gets a direct hit in one try, because Seokjin's doubling over immediately and cursing in pain, reaching out to grab onto her in anger before she's dodging him quickly and running out of the room.

She doesn't even wait for the lift, speeding down the stairs without trying to trip over her feet and she knows she's out of breath and slowing down but at least the lack of footsteps behind her makes her less worried that he's catching up with her.

Her thighs are shaking by the time she reaches the ground floor and pushes the door open with all her strength, rushing out without looking back once because she can't afford to slow down right now, not when he might be just behind her. Yoongi's face comes to her mind suddenly and the tears stream down her face when she realizes she hasn't even told him she loves him today yet, and God, she doesn't want to leave him so early, not when they deserve forever together and-

"Chaeyoung!"

She slams right into a solid body and nearly collapses to the floor from the impact.

"Let go!" she screams, scrambling to pick herself up as arms wound around her shoulders and she's pushing the person away by her hands to his chest until-

"Hey, hey! Chae it's me! Baby, it's me!"

She stops struggling instantly and warm, brown eyes meet her teary ones.

"What-" she pants, crying and feeling so confused all at the same time because she can't seem to process the fact that Yoongi's actually here, in the flesh, looking at her with worried eyes as he tries to calm her down.

"Yoongi?" she calls, puzzled but also kind of relieved when he nods and pulls her closer by the shoulder.

"Yeah, it's me. You weren't picking up and I got worried. What happened?" he breathes, sounding equally as shaken as her despite not knowing anything yet.

She shakes her head, not wanting to recount the experience she wants to forget, but Yoongi pushes on, determined to get her to speak.

"What's wrong? Why did you look like you were running for your life?" he prompts again.

Chaeyoung feels herself shake, but she tries to get herself together to piece a proper sentence that doesn't just sound like a jumble of crying and disconnected words.

She takes a large breath and fails miserably.

"I-I...my supervisor- he tried to...he-"

But it's enough for Yoongi to understand and he doesn't wait a second longer to pull her back into his chest, arms gripping around her tighter than ever as though he'd lose her completely if he let go.

"Did he do anything to you?" he asks softly, voice on the verge of cracking.

She stiffens. He'd probably see the bruise sooner or later but for now, she thinks half the truth would suffice because she knows it's what both of them need.

"No, I'm fine. I kicked him before running out."

Yoongi doesn't say anything else but hugs her even tighter.

"I'm sorry," he whispers against her hair after a long minute, loosening his hold slightly as he strokes down the length of her back.

His fingers carry the weight of guilt and frustration that he doesn't utter, but Chaeyoung feels and hears it all as they imprint themselves through the fabric of her clothes and she tries not to cry as she lets herself sink into his chest.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm sorry I was late.

Yoongi makes a report first thing in the morning the next day while she's asleep- actually pretending to be asleep, because she'd woken up the minute he left the bed to retrieve his phone, listening with her eyes closed the entire time he's on the phone, until she can no longer pretend any more, crawling into his lap as he swiftly dials up her office without even batting an eye at her awake state to let them know she'll be taking the day off.

When he finally hangs up, he looks down at her figure pressed against his chest silently but doesn't curl an arm around her waist like he's used to.

Chaeyoung stiffens, but doesn't look up to meet his eyes because she knows what's coming and she's not prepared to face his questions just yet.

Yoongi waits a little more, until his patience runs out and he's starting off softly but firmly, so she doesn't have a chance to back out anymore.

"Was he the reason why you wanted to switch departments?"

It takes a while for her to respond, but he waits and waits until she can no longer act like she didn't hear the question and her acknowledgment finally presents itself in the form of a small nod.

"How long has he been pestering you?" he demands, and she feels herself flinch at the poorly concealed anger in his voice.

"Ever since he transferred over," she replies softly.

She hears him sigh, long and loud.

"Has this happened before?" he asks.

She shakes her head quickly. "No, he always said...things, but this is the first time he's ever acted on it."

"Why didn't you tell me anything?" he asks, and her heart breaks a little at the disappointment in his tone.

"I didn't want you to worry, I thought I could handle it on my own," she tries her best to explain, but the damage is already done.

Yoongi stays silent after that and her lips curve down because he's probably mad at her, which she totally deserves by the way, especially after she'd told him over again how he shouldn't try to solve everything by himself because he has her now.

The irony is strong and she feels it bite her harder in the ass the longer he doesn't speak, but then one of his hands slides up and curls around her waist and she nearly calls his name in surprise but he cuts her off with a press of his lips against her forehead.

"I want you to know that you can rely on me anytime for anything, and I want to be there for you whenever you need me, because you'll do exactly the same for me, right?" he tells her as he pulls away, smiling, and Chaeyoung swears she'll cry one more time.

But she holds back her tears and collapses right into his arms, which Yoongi only hugs her tighter, firmer to make sure she knows he's absolutely serious and swears by the words he'd just said.

"I know, I'm sorry," she finally says. "It was selfish of me not to tell you anything."

And Yoongi feels like the roles have changed for once, because it's not Chaeyoung that's comforting him this time, but the other way around and he decides he's okay with it, because he's learned to realize as perfect as she is, she can't be the strong one all the time.

Sometimes, they have to take turns.

"We all make mistakes sweetheart, but it's alright as long as we learn from them," he tells her, hoping it's comforting enough as he brushes his lips briefly against her temple.

But Chaeyoung always surprises him when he least expects it, suddenly fisting his shirt tighter in her hands as she pulls away to stare into his eyes and-

"You were never a mistake though," she says quietly, but the confirming tone she uses makes his heart skip a beat.

He feels his breath catch in his throat as he stares back. "Neither were you."
