A Realization

Erik convinced Raine to accompany him to go around the city to sell his inventions. Since Andrew was able to give Raine the haircut he wanted. Even if Raine got his haircut it didn’t mean that he wouldn’t be unrecognizable.
“Selling?” Raine raised a brow and turned to Erik.
“Yes, even though I mostly get kicked out of bars because of my *ahem* disruptive behavior… even though I didn’t do anything disruptive.” Erik pouted and crossed his arms, Raine chuckled and smiled “Just how do you sell your products?” Raine asked again, “It isn’t that bad, I may not be great at socializing, but my methods are exceptional”.
“Really?” Rain chuckled.
“You’re making fun of me. It’s not like you have experience in selling products, or…. do you?” Erik wondered. With Raine’s experience in the newspaper company, he’s had some experience in it. Aside from being a writer’s assistant, he’d often take a newspaper’s boy job at least once or twice a month.
“I wouldn’t say I have experience in selling self-made products….”
“So, you do have experience in selling! For how long?” Erik interrupted, a grin and an excited expression appeared on his face. He looked like an excited puppy getting ready to eat his food. “I didn’t say if I spent my whole life on selling…” Raine smiled awkwardly, “I don’t think I’m able to help you with selling either…”, Erik’s excited expression soon faded away within seconds. Raine always has a soft heart, which makes it easy for him to get swayed.
“Fine, I’ll help you I guess…” Raine sighed and Erik’s smile returned “I knew you’d come around” Erik grinned, talk about manipulative…
Erik stood up and walked into a room in the corner, Raine tried to take a peek at the room but it was off limits to him, but then again curiosity always kills the cat.
“Here” Erik placed about two heavy boxes on Raine’s hands which almost made him fall “Erik…why is it heavy…?” Raine gave a worried look at Erik, who was busy grinning. “These are all the things we’ll be selling today” Erik beamed and placed both his hands on his hips “All of…these…?” Raine looked at the boxes he held in front of him, just for inventions, it was rather heavy. Raine slowly kneeled and placed the boxes down, he noticed the top box was open and he caught a glimpse of what was inside. It was weapons, illegal weapons.
Raine didn’t mistake anything really, he saw something that made it obvious, it is illegal. The weapon glowed a certain color, even inside the box and under a dim light, it was light blue, the same color showed up when Erik placed his wall that day. ‘I merely thought it was some sort of hologram…I could be mistaken but could it really be magic…?’  Raine showed a suspicious look and Erik quickly noticed it.
“Are you alright?” Erik looked down to see if Raine was hurt or anything, Erik’s voice made Raine snap back into reality. He immediately stood up and cleared his throat. “I’m…fine.” Raine found himself looking at Erik, like he was somehow betrayed, but he kept his cool.
“So…uh what exactly do you invent?” Raine asked as Erik stood up with a confused expression.
“Hmm…” Erik mumbled as he stroked his chin, “How do I put this….” He muttered “Basically I build these uh…. weapons” Erik sounded nervous, he probably knew why Raine asked him such a question “Weapons?” Raine raised a brow.
“Weapons.”
“Made with…?”
“That’s a rather ridiculous question. Made with carbon steel, stainless and aluminum. Basically, just metal” Raine crossed his arms as Erik made another confused look, the two stared at each other for a while before Erik sighed and dropped both his arms down.
“Not only they contain metal but also a strong substance…inside the weapons…” Erik looked away and crossed his arms, avoiding Raine, who looked disappointed “And what exactly is that strong substance?”
“Why do I feel as if I’m interrogated right now?” Erik leaned against a table behind him, “I understand your loyalty for the law but it’s simply for business” Erik glanced at Raine who didn’t utter a single word.
“Judging by the sudden glow coming from the weapon…how did you….?”
“Blood.” Erik responded and pulled his sleeve up, to reveal a deep cut on his left arm. “Children that are born with magic are unique, they can heal, build or even fight. The glow you saw inside that box is merely my blood.” Raine couldn’t believe what he was hearing, not only was Erik selling weapons that aren’t even allowed in Arcelia, but he was selling his blood. That was filled with magic! Raine gulped as he looked at Erik, who wasn’t bothered by it “Why are you selling weapons that can be used for something terrible?” Raine asked again, slowly losing his smile “That’s how it is out here, Raine. I’m doing my job, and that is to make and sell. I don’t care about the purpose of how it’ll be used….” Erik sighed and proceeded to walk towards the two boxes “I hope you understand why I’m still going to sell and build more weapons. It’s how you survive in a world like this.” Erik smiled faintly but Raine felt like there was something more to this, he walked up and stood beside Erik, placing a hand on his shoulder “As long as you get enough rest then I’ll help you…. It’s still risky since I’ll have to be careful not to show my face.” Erik’s eyes widened but he quickly looked away, smiling.
“Yeah, I’ll have to look out for you then.” He chuckled.

Meanwhile…

Faint voices were heard as the prince’s eyes were completely shut, his hands trembled as he breathed heavily. ‘Damn it…. why can’t I move...?’ The prince thought, ‘I hope Regina is safe… somewhere…’
Echoes of the past came rushing, he clenched his waist tightly as forgotten memories crossed his mind yet again. Memories of Avery and Raine.

Back in the Atreus Mansion, Raine didn’t like being taken care of by maids nor butlers, in fact he’d often stay in his room until his brothers would be back home. Every day was the same for Raine, he’d wake up, get dressed, eat, play, eat, read, eat and sleep. But one day, as Raine was busy playing in the garden, he heard the soft voice of another young boy. Raine got up and walked slowly towards the garden wall. He looked up at the huge wall in front of him and shouted “W-Who’s there?” Raine was nervous, he’d never heard someone else’s voice on the other side of the wall, he didn’t expect to.
“My name’s Avery! I was hoping I could stay here…. even for a couple of days...?” Raine got closer to the wall and placed his hand on it, ‘Whoever that must be…. they must be lost…. should I help them?’ Raine thought as he looked around if anyone was watching, suddenly he noticed a hand was sticking out of a hole on the wall. The hole was small enough to fit a child.
“U-uhm…” Raine mumbled as the hand tried to grab something, he slowly approached the hand and poked it with a stick “A-Avery….? Is this your hand….?” Raine proceeded to poke it even more, “Yes, yes! Now can you please help me? I think I scratched my knee….”
Raine helped Avery get inside and he even aided to his knee, Raine made sure no maid nor butler would enter the room they were staying at. Raine sat down beside Avery, he had never seen a boy with freckles that Avery had.
“Quit staring at me” Avery mumbled “I-I didn’t mean to stare. My apologies….” Raine responded then looked somewhere else, Avery noticed this and was quite annoyed at how he didn’t tell him why he was staring. “Not a lot of people like my freckles. They call it dirty for someone like me.” Avery added and slowly tried to move his leg “S-Someone…like you? What do you mean?” Raine was intrigued although he didn’t know Avery that well, the way he spoke and from his choice of clothing, he must have been from a noble family. Raine lowered his gaze and stayed silent.
“It’s nothing really. Being friends with those kids is such a pain” Avery pouted and looked over to Raine, he noticed he was rather silent, not much to say or even do in this situation “How rude of you…” Avery pouted and turned away.
“Huh!?!” Raine cried and raised a brow.
“Not once have you bothered to even have a proper conversation with me! That isn’t how you treat your guests” Avery crossed his arms, Raine felt nervous and shy. He knew that he couldn’t talk much to Avery, he was awkward and didn’t know how to even hold a conversation. But for some reason, he felt comfortable even if they don’t talk.
“I’m sorry……I don’t really get visitors, I’m sorry if I offended you in any way…” Raine apologized and bowed his head, Avery’s expression softened, and he lowered his arms. Although Avery had been showered with attention his entire life, he was afraid that one day, someone won’t have the heart to even glance at Avery the same way, his mother did.

Avery felt someone carry his body, he wanted to jump out of the person’s arms and run away but, he was too frozen to even move…
‘This person…. why are they carrying me….?’ Avery grunted and panted, his vision was blurry, but the person hid their face using a hood.
And before he knew it, he closed his eyes again.
