"So, what do you think is in there?"

Rosemary looked at the fog covered island in front of them, the green light shining through in places and making her feel a bit queasy. She would be lying if she said the island didn't freak her out, but she knew she would have to stay strong for the crew.

"Our worst nightmares," Edmund muttered making Rosemary sigh and shake her head for she knew that wasn't helping the situation at all. The boy glanced at her and shrugged helplessly. The corners of Rosemary's lips turned up slightly and she wrapped her arms around Edmund's arm before leaning into his side, her face nuzzled against his shoulder.

"Our darkest wishes," Caspian suggested, his voice grave and his eyes holding a haunted look within.

"Pure evil," Drinian said, his tone making Rosemary shiver a bit as she wondered what exactly they would have to face. It could be anything for all they knew. What if she was unable to protect everyone?

"Tavros, unlock the armory," Drinian spoke to the Minotaur who nodded before walking off. "Archers, prepare yourselves."

"Aye, Captain."

"Light the lanterns!"

The crew began to yell shouts of command as they moved around the deck and Rosemary got lost in watching them before Caspian turned to her, Edmund, and Lucy. "Let's get ready," he said and the three nodded before Rosemary and Edmund followed after Caspian and Lucy went off with Gael.

It didn't take long for Rosemary to suit up, years and years of strapping on armor meaning it only took a matter of minutes to have everything on and ready. Since they were on a boat and not on land the armor was a lot lighter and easier to move in which Rosemary was grateful for. Her sword hung by her side, her father's initials flashing by her hip when she moved, while her hair had been pulled back into a ponytail that she knew was bound to fall out sooner or later.

Now she stood staring at the shield in her hands. The one she had received from Santa all of those years ago had been lost long ago, so now she stood with Peter's shield in her hands. Rosemary suddenly felt worse than she had only moments before, her thoughts being consumed by the realization that she was about to fight without Peter and she had no idea how she was going to be able to do it.

She couldn't stop thinking of her nightmares—the sea serpent, the fighting, how she had gotten so many people killed because she was leading the army without Peter. What if that all came true? What if everyone fell because she was unfit to lead by herself?

She couldn't do this without her best friend. There was just no way.

"Rosemary, love, are you okay? Or is that shield really that interesting?" Edmund questioned as he came up from behind, gently placing a hand on her shoulder as he looked to her with concern.

Rosemary was silent, her grip tightening on the shield while she let out a shaky breath. "I don't know if I can do it," she admitted, her voice making both Edmund and Caspian freeze before sharing a look.

"What do you mean, Rosemary?" Caspian asked, strapping on the last of his armor before hurrying over to his friend's side. Both Edmund and Caspian were standing beside her now and she could practically feel the concern radiating off of both of them.

"Ever since I came to Narnia, I always had Peter. He. . .he rode into battle with me. He fought by my side. He was my partner on the battle field and now. . .he's not here," she whispered, her face contorting in a bit of pain. "How am I supposed to do this without him?"

"Peter may have fought by your side, but he's not the reason you were named the protector. You're the protector because of your own ability, because you were born with that destiny. Peter not being here doesn't make that any less true," Caspian told her.

"Caspian's right. Besides, you know that Peter will always be with you and you're definitely not alone. You've got us. You've got Lucy and Eustace and Reepicheep. You have a whole crew out there who will fight with you until the end," Edmund said, lightly nudging the girl with his elbow as he offered her a small smile.

Rosemary was silent for a second as she stared at the shield in front of her. For a moment, she swore it was like she could feel Peter standing by her side, the blonde giving her a small nod and a pep talk like he always used to do before a battle. She wasn't okay with fighting without Peter and she had a feeling she never would be, but Edmund and Caspian were right. She wasn't alone. She was going to be okay.

Nodding slightly, Rosemary moved the shield around her body in order to strap it on her back. She glanced between Caspian and Edmund, giving the two a smile which they quickly returned.

"In case we don't get through whatever this is. . . I want you to know I think of you as my siblings. Ed as my brother and Rosemary as the little annoying sister," Caspian said, his words making Rosemary playfully roll her eyes and whack the boy who grinned.

"Glad to know I'm the brother. But in all honesty, me too," Edmund spoke up. "About you of course. It would be weird if I saw Rosemary as a sister." Rosemary nodded agreement and Caspian smiled at the two before pointing to Edmund's empty sword sheath.

"You gave up your sword," Caspian pointed out and Edmund shrugged as if it were no big deal. "It wasn't mine to keep," he said as he looked down to fix a lose strap on his armor. It was that moment of distraction that gave Caspian and Rosemary the perfect time to exchange a small look. The brunette nodded softly and Caspian smiled before walking away to grab something.

"Use this," Caspian announced, the young boy turning around to see that he was standing there with Peter's sword in hand. Edmund froze, his eyes flickering to Rosemary before he glanced back at Caspian. "But it's. . ." he trailed off, still a bit shocked at the fact Caspian was offering to let him use it.

"Peter would want you to have it," Caspian insisted and Rosemary was quick to nod in agreement. "No one better fitting that you, Eddie," Rosemary said, the two's words making Edmund smile wide as he hesitantly reached out to take the sword.

Caspian clapped the boy on the shoulder before giving him and Rosemary a short nod. "I'll give you two a moment alone before we head off into battle. Although, if you take too long I will be forcing the two of you apart for the rest of the journey," he warned, a teasing grin on his face.

Rosemary and Edmund chuckled softly as the boy disappeared out the door leaving the two to talk. It was silent for a moment as Rosemary turned to face her boyfriend who was currently strapping Peter's sword to his side. Once he was done, his eyes flickered up to lock with her own, a shy grin on his face as he stared at her lovingly.

Edmund opened his mouth to speak, but Rosemary was quick to grab his arms and pull him forward, her lips instantly connecting with his own in a searing kiss that had both of them melting into each other's embrace.

When Rosemary pulled away, Edmund was still standing there with his eyes closed and a dazed look on his face. It took a minute for his eyes to flutter open and when he did, Rosemary was met with those beautiful brown eyes of his that managed to always give her butterflies.

"I love you," Rosemary whispered, absolutely entranced by the boy in front of her. It was funny to think about how she had no idea that when she was swinging down from the branch of that tree by her house that she was swinging towards the face of the boy who she could wholeheartedly say was the love of her life.

Edmund blushed at her words, a smile creeping onto his face as he shyly looked down and then back up. He gently pressed his hand to the side of her neck before pulling her forward once more so that he could kiss her again, his lips lingering as he whispered against her lips, "I love you."

Rosemary smiled at that and pressed one more chaste kiss to the boy's lips before reluctantly pulling away. She knew she would be stuck in his arms forever if she didn't pull away now. Although she wouldn't exactly be complaining if she did get stuck in his hold.

Edmund smiled fondly at that girl before reaching out to gently take her hand in his own, lacing their fingers together so that their hands same together like two puzzle pieces. "We should probably go before Caspian yells at us," he chuckled. "And you've got a lot you have to do before we head in there."

Rosemary gave the boy a confused look to which Edmund's smile only widened before he pressed a loving kiss to her forehead. When he pulled away, Rosemary was still looking at him and he flashed her that smile of his that made her weak at the knees.

"I think it's time for one of your speeches, love, don't you?"

The Dawn Treader was silent as everyone stared up at the High Queen who was letting her eyes flicker over each of the crew members as the smallest of smiles began to appear on her faces. Everyone had gathered to hear her speak and even Eustace was flying as quietly as he could beside the ship so that they could all listen. After all, it wasn't every day that a Narnian got to listen to one of the infamous Protector of Narnia's speeches.

"This is it," Rosemary announced, her hand tightening on the hilt of her sword while she gave the crew a confident look. "This is the moment where everything we've worked for will be tested. All the hunger, sickness, and days of hard work. All of the fighting, the mishaps on different islands, and the countless nights at sea have led us to this very moment."

"I will not lie and tell you it will be easy because it won't," Rosemary admitted. "Nothing worth while ever is. But I can promise you that you will not be alone. Look around at those who surround you. These are the faces of our crew, the faces of the very Narnians who were able to get us this far. We wouldn't have been able to get here if we hadn't worked together and we won't be able to leave here if we don't do the same."

"But no matter what happens here, I want everyone to realize what they have done over the last couple of months. You all should be proud because I know I am. I am proud of this journey. I am proud of this crew. And I am proud to say that I was a member of the crew of the Dawn Treader along with each of you," the brunette said, her eyes filled with adoration and pride as she gave the crew a stern nod.

"Everyone has earned their place on this ship and in this family. No one will forget what has happened here today and I say we make this a story worth telling!" Rosemary exclaimed before a chorus of yells filled the air.

"Together we have traveled far!" Rosemary yelled while everyone continued to cheer. "Together we have faced adversity! And together we can do it again! We will not fall to the temptations of our own fears! We will be strong! We will never give in! We will fight for our world and all Narnian lives!"

"Think of those whose lives you are here to save and the lives of those you wish to protect. Think of Aslan! Think of Narnia!" Rosemary finished, the crew all cheering and pumping their fists in the air.

The young girl drew her sword from her side and thrust it up in the air, yelling proudly, "For Narnia!"

The sound of weapons being unsheathed could be heard as everyone drew their own weapons and held them up in the air. Even Eustace was blowing fire up in the air in excitement.

"For Narnia!"

Rosemary felt a surge of pride wash over her as she listened to everyone cheer and for a moment she was brought back to the eve of the fight against the White Witch when she had given her first speech to their army.

The brunette turned her head to the side, her eyes falling upon Caspian who she smirked at and muttered, "I've still got it." Caspian rolled his eyes at the girl while Edmund chuckled and walked over to wrap an arm around the girl's waist.

"You ready?" Edmund whispered, his eyes scanning her face. Rosemary smiled and leaned up to press a chaste kiss to the boy's lips. "Ready," she replied and Edmund smiled softly down at her before they heard a hush fall over the crowd.

Rosemary didn't even have to turn to know what was happening. She could already feel the hair on the back of her neck beginning to stand on end and she closed her eyes for a moment to push back any fear she may have had. When her eyes flashed back open, it was as if a switch had been flipped and Rosemary looked like the confident Protector from the Narnian stories. Like she had told Edmund, she was ready.

The dark fog surrounded them slowly, creeping around the ship until the Dawn Treader was consumed by darkness and brought to the very center while green whisps of smoke swirled around them. Rosemary's whole body had gone cold and the silence that had fallen upon the ship wasn't helping her much either.

Edmund had let go of her long ago, so Rosemary stood prepared with her hand resting atop the hilt of her sword. Her jaw was clenched, but she tried to keep her face as emotionless as possible. The crew needed a good example and she had to show them they had nothing to fear.

"Rosemary," a voice seemed to whisper in her ear, the sound making the brunette jump in surprise before turning to her left. Her eyes widened slightly and she breathlessly whispered out, "Peter."

She knew it wasn't the blonde, but something about the green smoke version forced her to believe it was almost real and that Peter was standing before her. His face was emotionless and his eyes narrowed before he shook his head and said, "You are way over your head, you know. Do you honestly believe you could rule by yourself? You're going to get everyone killed. You should just leave ruling to Caspian and Edmund like you did me. You aren't fit to lead and you never will be."

Rosemary's hand tightened on the hilt of her sword and she swallowed thickly. "N-No," she whispered, but her weakness only seemed to make the smoke Peter laugh. His figure begin to float away and just as he disappeared, his voice whispered into her ear one last time, "You will be Narnia's downfall."

The brunette couldn't help but be shaken by those words, her deepest insecurities making her feel almost powerless in the moment. She wouldn't have snapped out of it if it weren't for Edmund crying out, "No!"

Rosemary turned around in an instant, her eyes locking on Edmund who had grown pale and was seething with anger. She didn't know what he had to have seen, but she knew it was bad.

"Edmund?" she whispered as she hesitantly walked over to the boy. His eyes instantly flickered over to her and he seemed to relax at the sight of her. "Are you all right?"

He glanced back in the direction he had been looking at a moment before and hesitantly nodded as he walked over to stand by Rosemary's side once again. "Yeah," he muttered as he gently reached out and took hold her hand. His grip was tight, almost desperate, and Rosemary was quick to hold his hand just as tightly. "Y-Yeah."

The sound of someone yelling suddenly drew everyone out of their thoughts, distracting them long enough to forget about the green wisps around them and the whispering of their insecurities in their ears.

"Keep away! Keep away!" the voice yelled, low and shaky but still firm enough to make a point. Rosemary furrowed her eyebrows and glanced at Edmund who was making the same face as her. Together, the two walked over to the edge of the ship and looked out into the darkness, their eyes scanning the little scenery around them in hopes of finding who the voice belonged to.

"Who's there?" Edmund questioned, his hand tightly holding onto Rosemary's while their free hands hovered above the hilts of their swords. "We do not fear you!" Caspian declared and the voice that responded almost sounded a bit amused.

"Nor I you!" the voice yelled back. "Keep away!" Edmund had reached for his torch and he was quick to flip on the light before shinning it in the direction of the voice. To their surprise, an old man standing on top of a rock came into view. His body was scrawny and bony as if he had been stuck there for a while, but he obviously still had strength for he was able to hold a sword up in the air warningly, his eyes narrowed at the ship.

Rosemary's hand grabbed ahold of the hilt of her sword and she kept a steady look on her face as she announced, "We will not leave." "You will not defeat me!" the man insisted.

"Caspian," Edmund suddenly said, his eyes widening a bit. "Caspian, his sword." Rosemary was quick to look and see what the boy was talking about. At the sight of the sword the man was holding, the brunette couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief and feel a bit of the pressure leave her. That was one of the Lord's swords. This man was the final Lord they had been looking for.

"Lord Rhoop!" Caspian exclaimed in surprise and relief. "You do not own me!" the Lord cried. Caspian watched him in amazement before glancing at the crew who were all holding onto their weapons warily. "Stand down," he insisted and everyone reluctantly put their weapons away. "Let's get him on board, quickly."

A few of the crew members went to throw an anchor at the rock, but before they could even blink Eustace was picking the Lord up and flying him over to the ship. He dropped him down onto the deck and glanced at Rosemary who gave him a thankful nod before he flew back up into the air.

"Help him up," Caspian said as a few of the men went to help the Lord onto his feet. "Be calm, my lord." "Off me, demon!" Lord Rhoop yelled, struggling against everyone's hold while Caspian gently grabbed onto his arm.

"No, my lord. We are not here to hurt you. I am your king, Caspian," he said, his words causing the Lord to freeze and take a good long look at the boy in front of him. "Caspian?" Lord Rhoop whispered, a look of disbelief on his face. "My lord?"

Lord Rhoop was silent for a moment as he stared at Caspian before he took a step towards the boy. "You should not have come. There's no way out of here. Quickly. . .turn this ship about, before it's too late!" Lord Rhoop exclaimed.

"Lord Rhoop is right. We have the sword. Let's go!" Rosemary announced, taking note of the way the Lord glanced at her and then her sword before a look of surprise broke out on his face. "The Protector?" Lord Rhoop whispered, but Rosemary merely had time to give him a kind smile before she was being thrown back into what was happening.

"Let's turn her about, Drinian," Caspian agreed. "Aye-aye, your Majesty," Drinian said as he began to turn the steering wheel in an attempt to turn the ship around. "Do not think," Lord Rhoop warned. "Do not let it know your fears. . .or it will become them."

Rosemary wasn't able to help herself after the Lord said those words. After all, telling her not to do something didn't exactly make it easy to obey. "Oh no," Rosemary whispered, her face growing pale as a look of utter dread washed over her.

"Rosemary," Lucy muttered, her and Edmund hesitantly looking at the girl who had turned her gaze to the water. "What did you just think of?" The brunette turned her gaze back to her friends and she winced before whispering, "I'm so sorry. I couldn't help it."

"Love?" Edmund questioned, squeezing her hand and watching as Rosemary let go in order to pull out her sword. "The nightmares were getting to me. I couldn't—" Rosemary began to say, her sword flashing as she gripped onto the hilt with both hands.

She never got a chance to finish because the boat suddenly jerked to a side as something hit it from underneath. "Look!" a voice cried out. Rosemary paled even more and Edmund looked to Lucy in worry, both of them knowing what Rosemary must've thought of if it was connected to her nightmares. "What is that?"

"It's too late. It's too late!" Lord Rhoop cried out. "It's gone under the boat!" Rosemary was shaking by now, her fear consuming her as she realized she had just doomed the Dawn Treader. Peter had been right, even if it had been only the mist version of himself.

Rosemary was going to be Narnia's downfall.

"Gael!" Lucy yelled, drawing Rosemary out of her thoughts. The brunette quickly turned her head and her eyes widened at the sight of the young girl cowering on the other side of the ship where a sea serpent like the ones from her nightmares was now rising out of the waters.

She felt a tingling in her body and it was like all of her fears washed away. Rosemary knew what she had to do and that was do the job she had been doing for years now. It was time for her to be the Protector.

With a new found strength coursing through her veins, Rosemary bolted across the ship, jumping over obstacles and weaving in between the crew until she managed to reach Gael who now had tears in her eyes. "Come here!" Rosemary exclaimed as she held her hand out. The little girl quickly took hold of her hand and Rosemary helped her up onto her feet before pushing her in the direction of the others right as the serpent began diving towards her.

Rosemary lifted her sword up high, the metal shining as it sailed through the air. But just when the serpent was about to reach her, a blur of orange flew by in order to protect Rosemary before fire was surrounding the serpent's face.

"Eustace!" Rosemary yelled, her eyes wide as she watched Eustace launch his dragon body at the serpent's face while Reepicheep climbed off and began stabbing wherever he could. He didn't get much of a chance before Reepicheep was suddenly thrown off and Rosemary's eyes widened at the sight.

She didn't hesitate to begin climbing one of the nets on the side of the boat and she managed to reach an arm out in time for Reepicheep to wrap his tail around her arm and save himself from falling into the water below.

"Thank you, your Majesty," Reepicheep gasped, breathing heavily. Rosemary just gave him a short nod and helped him up onto her shoulder before the two looked out to watch Eustace fight the serpent. The serpent almost seemed to have the upper hand as it tossed Eustace against a rock, but the dragon was quick to breath fire right at the serpent's face.

The serpent instantly caught on fire and let out a scream of pain before falling back into the water. Rosemary began to smile once she realized Eustace was winning, but it quickly fell from her face at what happened next.

"Out, creature!" Lord Rhoop yelled as he grabbed his sword and threw it through the air. "No! The sword! The sword!" Caspian exclaimed, but Rosemary didn't even care about the sword at that point. She could only watch in horror as the sword plunged into Eustace's body, a scream escaping her lips before she cried out, "Eustace!"

The dragon let out a cry of agony before promptly pushing himself back up into the air and flying off. It was obviously a struggle and he managed to get up into the air right as the serpent's tail raised into the air once again. "Eustace! No! Come back!" Rosemary yelled, but the dragon was gone before they even knew what was happening.

"We're all doomed! Doomed!"

"Turn this ship about!"

The ship suddenly tilted heavily to one side and Rosemary lost her footing and began to plummet through the air with Reepicheep desperately holding onto her shoulder. She distantly heard Lucy and Edmund cry out for her, but she was too busy trying to grab onto the rope to notice.

Somehow she was able to grab the rope which quickly pulled taut and caught her. The rope swung around the ship and Rosemary let out a small sigh of relief before glancing to her shoulder where Reepicheep was still gripping onto her shoulder.

"Never again," the mouse muttered earning a small breathy chuckle from the girl before she looked away. Her eyes locked on Lord Rhoop and narrowed before she swung the rope in that direction and landed on her feet next to the Lord. She had her sword out in a flash and she held it up to the Lord's neck before saying, "I truly am sorry for this, but step away from the steering wheel."

"Now."

Lord Rhoop opened his mouth to object, but Drinian came up from behind and pulled the man back before punching him in the face. The Lord fell to the ground and Drinian and Rosemary exchanged a look before the girl stepped away to allow Drinian to take control for he ship once again.

"Now, crew. . .to your rowing positions. Oars at double speed!" Drinian announced while Rosemary let Reepicheep back onto the ground so that he could go direct the rowers while the girl went off to be by Edmund, Lucy, and Caspian's side.

Rosemary managed to find Edmund with ease and the two began to run to each other but were stopped as the sea serpent suddenly jumped into the air and began to fall towards them. "Edmund!" Rosemary yelled as she tried to run faster. "Rosemary!" Edmund cried out, but her name had barely left his lips before the serpent landed in between them, effectively cutting them off from one another as it began to crush the boat with its body.

Rosemary let out a groan of frustration before turning back around and seeing Caspian at the wheel. She didn't hesitate to run over to him, grabbing ahold of the wheel and helping the man control the ship while the serpent continued to rock it.

The brunette was soaked by now, the water that the serpent kept flinging into the air having drenched her in sea water to the point where her hair was matted to her skin. The boat kept crunching under the weight of the serpent and she could hear the screams of the crew as they attempted to avoid the serpent's destruction while also fighting.

Biting her lip, Rosemary began to look around, her thoughts running through her head so quickly she was barely able to comprehend the plan she was trying to come up with until she caught sight of the rocks ahead.

"Caspian! The rocks!" Rosemary yelled, pointing towards where they were heading. Caspian seemed to get what she was saying and together the two began to turn the steering wheel in that direction.

Once they were on track, Rosemary looked down at the deck, a feeling of relief washing over her at the sight of Edmund down below. "Ed!" Rosemary called out, her voice instantly drawing the attention of the boy who spun around to look at her. An equally relieved look flashed across his face before he stared at her expectantly. "We'll ram the serpent against the rocks!"

Edmund glanced in the direction Rosemary was referring to and nodded before yelling back, "Steer her to port. I'll keep it on the prow." The couple shared one last look to which Rosemary gave the boy a short nod before he disappeared amongst the crew.

"You heard him!" Rosemary yelled before her and Caspian worked on steering the ship in the right direction. As they did this, a light suddenly began to shine from the front of the boat and Rosemary knew it had to be Edmund using his torch to distract the serpent.

The distraction seemed to be working quite well for the serpent turned its attention towards the light. However, the serpent then lunged at the front of the boat and took a big bite out of the wooden dragon where Rosemary knew Edmund had been hiding.

"No!" Lucy yelled while Caspian cried out, "Edmund!" Rosemary knew she had to be optimistic in that moment for if she even thought for a second that Edmund could be dead then she wouldn't be able to go on. "He's got this!" Rosemary exclaimed, looking between Caspian and Lucy who looked back at her unsure. She gave them a stern look, her eyes flashing with an unreadable emotion as she yelled again, "Edmund's got this!"

As if having sensed her belief, Edmund suddenly appeared at the front of the ship as he climbed onto the very top of the dragon head. Rosemary had never felt more relieved or prouder than in that moment. She let out a victorious laugh and exclaimed, "See!"

But then the serpent rose in the air behind him and Rosemary felt her whole body go into over drive as her protector instincts took over. She left Caspian in an instant, running past Lucy who was shooting arrows at the serpent and hitting him so dead on that Rosemary could've mistaken her skill for that of Susan's in another time.

The serpent began to cry out and it was like everything was in slow motion as Rosemary caught sight of the serpent taking one final lunge at Edmund as they hit the rocks. The boy tried to dodge the creature, but ended up slipping before plummeting towards the deck.

Rosemary lunged into the air, grabbing ahold of the rope she had used earlier before swinging through the air and towards Edmund. She barely managed to reach him in time and her body collided with his before she wrapped an arm around him, Edmund quickly grabbing onto her as well before the two found themselves face to face.

"I got you," Rosemary whispered, her eyes flickering over Edmund's face while the boy stared at her with so much love that it made her heart skip a beat. The brunette didn't have time to focus on Edmund for long as the rope swung down to the deck and the two jumped off before rolling onto the ground, each of them letting out a groan as they came to a stop before glancing at each other and chuckling softly.

"You okay?" Rosemary whispered as she reached a hand out and pressed it against Edmund's cheek. The boy smiled softly and pressed a chaste kiss to her wrist before whispering, "I'm okay. Thank you."

Rosemary smiled back and Edmund pulled himself up onto his feet before pulling the girl up as well. The two instantly fell into a hug, deciding that stealing a moment during the fight was worth it. But knowing that they were fighting was what kept the hug short and to the point before the two pulled away in order to look at the serpent which had moved away from the ship.

No one knew how or why it was happening, but the serpent suddenly began to glow before the center of its body opened up to reveal legs like insects. Rosemary's mouth dropped open and she looked to Edmund before saying, "I did not think of that."

"Move!" Caspian suddenly exclaimed before Edmund and Rosemary found themselves falling against the ground once again. Caspian had somehow managed to push the couple out of the way of the serpent whose teeth were sunk into the very spot they had been standing moments before.

Caspian quickly sat up and used his sword to cut off of the tentacle like things on the creature. The serpent pulled away with a scream and the three watched as the fallen tentacle suddenly disappeared into the very green mist that had been surrounding them earlier.

Rosemary's eyes widened in surprise and she grabbed onto Edmund's hand and Caspian's shoulder before whispering, "We can beat this." The three looked up to the serpent that was now attempting to bite the sail off and Edmund pulled himself up onto his feet before helping Rosemary as well and saying, "We have to get it closer."

"All hands to the main deck. Ready the harpoons! I want everybody up here!" Caspian yelled while Rosemary picked up her fallen sword and spun it in her grip once. "This will be fun," she smirked earning a small chuckle from Edmund before the couple took off running towards the serpent.

The serpent pulled the sail so that the ship fell more on its side and Rosemary tumbled and fell away from Edmund. "Rosemary!" Edmund yelled as he stopped and went to run back to get her, but the girl was quick to wave him off.

"Go!" Rosemary exclaimed and the boy gave a short nod before grabbing ahold of a rope and spinning himself up onto the net which he began to climb. Knowing she would be too far behind him to be of any help, Rosemary began to run back to Caspian who now had all of the crew standing beside him with harpoons in hand.

"Now!" Caspian exclaimed before they all launched the harpoons at the serpent, the weapons digging into the creature's skin. "Pull its head down!" Rosemary yelled before returning her sword to its sheath and helping the crew pull on the harpoons so that the serpent was forced to fall closer towards Edmund who was almost in reach of the serpent's head.

"Heave!" Caspian exclaimed as everyone began to pull on the ropes holding the serpent in place. Rosemary and Caspian stood side by side, the two leaning against each other for support while water from the serpent dropped down on them and made everything slippery.

Rosemary looked up in time to see Edmund standing ready to attack the serpent, but then he froze. The brunette stilled, her eyes widening before she whispered, "Come on, Edmund. You got this. I believe in you."

Up above Edmund was staring into the face of the White Witch, the woman who had plagued his nightmares since the day he first met her. She was smiling that evil smile of hers at him, her eyes staring deep into his soul as she said, "Edmund. What are you trying to prove, Edmund? That you're a man? That you can protect Rosemary the way she protects everyone else? I can make you that. I can make you my king. Just take my hand. Just give in."

Edmund let out a shaky breath, his eyes beginning to fill with tears as he thought back to all the horrors he had witnessed because of Jadis. How she had almost messed up his entire life.

"Edmund!" a voice cried out from down below and Edmund managed to steal a glance down to see Rosemary looking up at him from where she was struggling to hold the serpent in place. "Do it!"

Edmund blinked and looked back up at Jadis, a look of anger appearing on his face as he glared at the White Witch. Jadis may have almost ruined his life, but Rosemary had always been the one to save him. She had been the one to remind him of who he was, prove to him that he could be a good man after his foolish actions as a boy. He was the man today because of Rosemary and her undying love. He would never give into anyone like Jadis ever again. Not when he had Rosemary by his side and believing in him like no one else ever had or ever would.

Before Edmund could do or say anything, his sword suddenly began to glow blue. He jumped back a bit in surprise, staring at the glowing sword before looking back up at the White Witch who had a look of horror on her face. She locked eyes with Edmund once more and held her hand out but the boy merely shook his head and yelled, "No!"

He turned to the serpent who seemed to be staring right at his sword and as the serpent lunged at him, Edmund dug the sword deep into the mouth of the serpent which let out a cry as it was electrified. The serpent fell back into the water and the mist version of Jadis cried out as she too disappeared.

Edmund let out a shaky breath as he stared at the dead sea serpent before looking back down at the deck where Rosemary stood looking back up at him with a smile. She was drenched head to toe in water, a cut here and there from all that had happened but Edmund had never been more in love with her than in that moment.

"The spell. . .it's lifting. Edmund, Caspian, Rosemary, look!" Lucy exclaimed, but Edmund barely even spared his surroundings a glance. He was too focused on Rosemary who was looking at the more clearing skies with the biggest grin on her face.

Edmund found himself climbing down the net instantly and it wasn't long before his feet hit the wooden deck. Rosemary was looking around with a smile when she caught sight of Edmund, the sight of the boy only making her smile bigger.

"Edmund!" Rosemary called out while the boy just continued to walk towards her. "You did it! I knew you could. I'm so—" She was cut off by the boy promptly closing the distance between them on the deck before he took her face in his hands and pressed his lips to hers in a searing kiss.

Rosemary's eyes fluttered closed and her mind instantly went fuzzy. She felt like her heart was bursting inside her chest as she gently brought her arms up to wrap around Edmund's neck while the boy moved his arms to her waist before picking her up and spinning her around.

Rosemary couldn't help but smile into the kiss, her hands beginning to tug on Edmund's hair while the boy just smiled and began to pull away. He left a few more lingering kisses before finally pulling away to look at the girl, their foreheads coming to rest against one another as they opened their eyes and smiled.

"I love you, Rosemary," Edmund whispered as his hand flew up to Rosemary's cheek where his thumb lovingly caressed the skin there. The brunette's smile only grew and she looked at Edmund with so much love that one would've been surprised the stories of old weren't told about the feelings she had for Edmund and not the other way around.

"And I love you, Edmund," Rosemary whispered before she was pulling the boy in for another kiss which Edmund happily obliged to before they pulled away and fell into a hug where Rosemary's chin was tucked against Edmund's shoulder while his head nestled into the crook of her neck.

The King and Queens of Old had saved the day yet again. And Edmund and Rosemary? Well, they were just as in love with each other as they had been the first time they saved Narnia.

Some things just never changed.
