Act one, Part Eight: Survive or Die

Six Days later

Inside the medbay, Donnie was looking at a heart monitor with a stern expression. It had just been two weeks, and Prim wasn't showing signs of improvement in her coma. The best he can do right now is make sure her heart is strong and give her more oxygen to keep her breathing. Speaking of which, he pulled out the used tank and installed a new one.

Just then, Raph walked in. His face has a look of concern. "Is she okay?" He asked his brother.

"Still in her coma." Donnie answered him. "Just changing her tank."

Raph nodded off this right as he focused on Prim sleeping form. "How long will it take for her to stay like this?" He wondered.

Donnie just huffed. "In all honesty? It will take time for her to recover." That was all he could respond to.

"Okay..."Raph set his eyes cast down, almost having a guilty look. He did yell at and threaten her; it was almost like he did the same after being captured by the Krang. He places his hand close to his cracked plastron; the pain is still there inside. He just felt so helpless now.

Donnie noticed his distress and frowned. He gave him a small pat on his arm. "She's going to be okay." He said.

"I hope so...I was really harsh on her." Raph sighed.

"She was acting like a bully to Arianina and Ginny." He mentioned the incident back on the field trip. "Think of this as her time out, and she will wake up when she has learned her lesson." He added.

Raph just sighed. Then he grabbed a chair, placed it next to Prim, and sat down. He casts down with a sad expression; he feels really guilty for what he told her. And with her in a bad coma, he worried he might not apologize to her. The best he can do right now is hope she can wake up, and he wants to be the first she wakes up to apologize for his behavior.

Donnie just let out a sigh. After their recovery from their battle with the Krang, Raph was pushing himself too hard and almost lost sleep from watching everyone out of fear. He knew his brother meant well, and he was traumatized from the possession and losing Leo, but he almost looked like a ghost in a hollow shell. They had to get him to see a Yokai therapist who was good friends with Draxum and helped him recover. Yet the pain is still there.

He grabbed two rolls of bandage and an ointment from the medbay and left, heading to the last place he avoided. Arianina's room. It had been six days since they last talked, and it wasn't pleasant. But he needs to swallow his pride, be patient with her, and hope he doesn't end up yelling at her.

He knocked on her closed door. "Arianina? Are you awake?" He doesn't hear an answer or a slight sound. He grabbed the handle, but it was locked closed. He let out a sigh. Then he pulled out his small pocket knife and slid it through the frame, unlocking it. But when he opens the door, he spots Arianina scratching the bandage, almost like she is trying to remove it.

Donnie flinched and rushed in. "Hey! No, no! Don't do that!" He grabs her arm and holds it still. He checked her bandage; it got scratch marks. "Hold still."

Arianina just huffed and turned away, still mad about their last encounter.

Donnie unwrapped the bandages carefully and checked. The bruises are starting to fade, and the cuts disappear lightly. Once he got the old ones off, he put the ointment on her arms and added new bandages in, carefully tying them up.

Once that was finished, he faced her, still holding her arm. "Can you please tell me where you get those bruises?" He questioned her.

"This isn't your business." Arianina snarled.

Donnie sighed, trying to restrain himself from snapping at her. "Look, I want to help you." He exhaled. "whatever gave you those bruises, they could have hurt you."

"I don't need anyone's help." Arianina glared at him, with only half of her face staring at him. "Where I live, no one ever bothers to help and is out for themselves. It's what we call "The Survive or Die' rule. If you can't defend yourself, then you will be food for the rats." She added.

Donnie blinked, processing everything she told him. Survive or die? Who can live with this? It sounds unfortunate and hopeless. Wherever she was raised, it sounds like not the best place for kids like her to live. Sure, it's New York, but people only live once, and people live to their fullest.

"that's a dumb rule." Donnie scoffed at this.

"It is, but it has been this way since my Tatay died." Arianina answered.

Donnie blinked. "Tatay? What's that?"

Arianina looked away, feeling she said too much. Donnie doesn't understand her Filipino language.

Bello frowned at this; she was so close, yet she somewhat refused to tell him about her former human life. He can tell Donnie is a good fellow, and he can help his owner heal through the pain she has been through.

Donnie just inhaled in and out, trying to control his patient. "Nina." He insisted. "Can I call you Nina?" He asked her.

Nina just rolled her eyes at this suggestion. "whatever." She really doesn't care right now.

"I don't know what happened in your home, but it's unhealthy to spend the rest of your life locked up here." He added. He can't have her spend her days cooped up in her room.

Nina pulled her arms away from his grasp and grip on her biceps. "I can, and I will." She snarled. "I can die here if I had to."

"Now stop that." Donnie glared at her. "You are starting to be stubborn."

Nina growled. "I mean it. So unless you get wise and smart, stay clear from me." She warned him. "You don't want to end up in broken parts, don't you?"

Seeing how she won't be swayed, he grabbed the extra bandage and the ointment. He stood up and headed to her open door. But he stopped by the entrance and turned to face her. "Fine. Be that way." He told her. "But sooner or later, you can't survive in your way." Then he left.

When he is out of sight, Nina slams the door shut and locks it again. But she got a disappointed expression on Bello's face.

Nina groaned in annoyance. "Why can't you be on my side? I don't need their help." Bello chip at her. Nina understands him, even as a mutant turtle. "Oh, you agreed with big brow? I am not stubborn! I am defending myself!" She marched to her bed, plopping on the mattress with her arms crossed and a pout on her face.

While Donnie, on the other hand, grumbles to himself as he walks away from Nina's room. This girl is giving him a bad headache if she keeps being rude and nasty to him.

Then Leo came in and blocked his path with a grin that annoyed him. "So, how are things between you and Spitfire?" He asked him.

Donnie groaned instead. "If a headache was a living being, it is her." He replied. He growled. "She's unmovable like a rock. No matter what I do to get on her good side, she pushes me back like an angry puppy!!" He crossed his arms.

"You're not the only one with girl trouble." Leo sighed. "Ginny won't leave her room or come out for food. I am getting really worried about her." He formed, very worried about Ginny.

Donnie can sense his brother's distress; his arms uncrossed themselves. "I'm sorry to hear that, but give her some time." He told him. "She is pretty upset about her family, thinking she's dead and a bad case of homesickness." He added. "Just be there for her; she can use a friend."

Leo let out a sigh, then nodded. He smiled up at him. "Okay. Thank you, brother."

Donnie gave him a pat on the shell. "No prob." He smiled back.

Inside an empty, dark room, a figure stepped from the shadows and sat near a desk. It is Bishop. He looks down and stares at the pictures of the turtles, each from every sight he can find of them. In all his time in New York, he had never heard or seen a view of them until later. He doesn't know if they are considered friends or foes to him.

He took out his phone and watched a video of the turtles running in the abandoned subway. "Hmm. How interesting, and yet no one can tell." He mumbled. "I need to find out more about them." He added.

He swapped the video away, showing a picture of the turtles and April in the underground lab. His glasses reflated on April's face.
