Chapter Eleven

When I had finally opened my eyes, I was in a pitch dark place. It took a little while before my stomach stopped spinning and I could stand up. The place looked endless and there were lights dotting the whole area. It looked as if I were standing at the edge of the universe.

"Hello?" I ventured. I expected an echo, but nothing came back which proved that this place was either a really large room, outside, or endless.

An evil sounding laugh suddenly filled the place crescendoing as a I felt a swift wind rustle my skirt and blow my hair into my face.

"Hello Lydia," the presence cackled.

"Who's Lydia?" I asked strongly as I stood my ground.

"Isn't that you?" the presence shot back. The thing started laughing again and unexpectedly the apparition of a dragon appeared in front of me.

"Hello Lydia," the dragon repeated.

"Who is Lydia?" I asked emphasizing my words. I thought back through all of the books I had read, but nowhere did the name "Lydia" come up.

"You are Lydia, aren't you?"

"No, my name is Lyra Reynolds. Who are you?" I retorted.

"I am the Dragon of Life and Death. I am the light and the dark of one's sight. The birth and decay of one's life." Stupefied, I stood there staring in amazement at the dragon and trying to comprehend his words.

"My, my Lyra. You do not know do you?" he asked playfully.

"Know what?"

"You are a splitting image of Lydia. Maybe you're a reincarnation of her," he mused. Seeing that I was not going to respond, he continued, "How are Tristan and Lysander?"

"Who?"

"Aren't they here?" the dragon asked showing an image through a portal hole of Talcum and Keagan walking a horse that I did not recognize. I looked closer and realized that it wasn't them. The people in the image were not Talcum and Keagan. They were wearing clothes that did not come from our period of time.

"And what of Casper? Have you seen him lately?" the dragon inquired as the image shifted. The person in the picture was a boy who looked exactly like the green-eyed prince, except he had a ponytail.

"Who are these people? Why are you showing me this?" I pressed.

"Aren't they your friends?" the dragon asked taken aback. He showed more images of the three boys. I didn't understand what was going on.

"Lydia. Do you not remember?" the dragon asked concerned. "I pulled you here for a reason. You need to remember the life you had before."

"I told you already! My name is not Lydia! I am Lyra Reynolds!" I screamed.

"You are Lyra, yes. Have you not realized? You are the reincarnation of Lydia Davisson. See?" he asked showing me an image of a girl who looked exactly like me.

"You were my best friend. The only human who would befriend a dragon." The dark place started to look distorted and the dragon suddenly looked distressed. "I have told you too much. You must go. Get ready!"

The dragon made a movement and I was warped back to the kitchen. When I came back there were tears on my face. I was crying, but for what reason? The last look the dragon gave me was a look of love, care, and concern.
