Chapter 1 - Get To Know The Protectors

Chapter 1 - Get To Know The Protectors

Cassidy's P.O.V.

"Again!" I shouted. Keith roared in laughter as May shot me a 'drop-dead' look. May pulled out a dagger as I pressed go on the timer. In less than 10 seconds, May had shot all of her daggers in the middle of the target, perfect. I grinned as she looked at me with a look that said 'well, is that better for you?'.

"Better, but still needs improving," I added to the end of the sentence just to annoy her. I grinned when she groaned at me.

"Just kidding, it was perfect," I chuckled. May looked at me with another 'drop-dead' look, while Keith just chuckled.

"Keith, will ya' stop laughing? I swear imma kick you where the sun don't shine," she grunted. I roared in laughter as Keith paled a little.

"Um, sorry, I actually wanna have kids one day," said Keith whilst cupping his manhood.

Let me introduce you to the Protectors. Protectors is a union that protect werewolves. We're different from hunters. Hunters kill our fellow werewolves. Protectors are usually half werewolf and half human, so of course we know everything about werewolves. There are only about a total of 24 Protectors in the whole entire world. There are about nine in North America. All of us Protectors are connected in one way or another.

Let me introduce you to my left hand person, Keith Ryan. I found Keith one day in the woods, alone. Unlike May and me, he can actually shift. He's half human and half werewolf. His mum is human whilst his father is werewolf. His parents died by rogues, blood-thirsty rogues that is. Keith can be intimidating because of his muscular features, but you never want to mess around with Keith, he's got one tough exterior, but once you get to know him, he's a childish person. Keith uses his claws as a weapon. Since he can shift, I taught him how to fight in his wolf form. Also years ago, when I was a kid, my mum showed me this type of wolfs-bane that can be tipped off. I found a lot of it years ago, so when we find rogues or hunters harming packs, Keith tips off his claws with the wolfs-bane and slashes them, the wolfs-bane slowly mixes with the claw mark and burns the body, basically.

My right hand person, May Smith. One person you never want to mess around with no matter what. She hates rogues and hunters with passion. Her mum was the werewolf whilst her father was the human. Years ago, hunters and rogues teamed up to wipe out the packs in England, they killed May's parents along with other packs in England. Keith and I found her wondering around in North America, looking for help, so we took her in and I taught her how to use daggers, pocket knifes, knifes, anything that is knife related basically. May is drop-dead gorgeous, yes, but she's intimidating. She likes to show her tough side so she can basically warn people not to mess with her, but only Keith and I know that she's a big softy under the seriousness.

Last but not least, me. I'm Cassidy Ruth. I'm like May basically, I only show my tough side when it comes to fighting or interacting with people other than May and Keith. My mum was human, but she was also a Protector. My father was the strongest Alpha, but when my mum died by taking a bullet for him, he slowly died by the pain of the loss of his mate. When my father died, I was only eight. I was still a kid, one day I ran away from home. I'm also part vampire. My mum's family came from a long line of vampires, I inherited the ability of the speed of a vampire from my mum. It only took me two hours to put some distance in between me and my father's pack. I trained myself how to use my mum's silver bow and how to make arrows and use it, of course. The silver arrows I use are tipped off with something stronger than wolfs-bane, Blue Moon Dust. Don't be fooled by the name. It's not a dust, it's a liquid poison that can cut off a werewolf's mind link, abilities, healing, and the connection between your wolf, basically turning you into a human, just a very weak human, it lasts for at-lease two weeks. I also mix Blue Moon Dust with Red-blood flowers, the mix between them is very dangerous. When I use this mix, it turns any rogue or hunter into a pile of dust. Red-blood flowers have a liquid that is located in the stem that burns your body, literally, Red-blood liquid plus Blue Moon Dust plus a rogue or hunter equals a pile of dust.

Call me disgusting or something like that because I use something like this, but when you're family is killed and your fellow werewolves are threatened, you'll do anything to save them. You're probably wondering, why would you protect werewolves? They're dangerous. Well, I grew up loving werewolves, so you can imagine why. Keith says I'm invincible, because of my vampire speed, I can dodge any attack, with my bow and arrows, I can kill easily, but honestly, I don't see myself as invincible. I see myself as a fighter, a Protector. Since I'm half werewolf, I can heal and have abilities like normal werewolves, but my heightened senses are sharper than a werewolf, I can hear, smell, and see miles and miles away than an average werewolf. One more thing, I can hide my scent. That's how I've been able to stay in the shadows. I taught May and Keith how to hide their scent too. The pack that we're located around is Alpha Right's pack, the strongest pack. Other Protector's think we're the strongest union of Protectors, so we've been assigned to protect the strongest pack. I'm aware that every werewolf knows about us Protectors, but they don't know who we are, and I'll like to keep it like that. If people knew that we are the Protectors, everyone will try and too capture us, resulting chaos in the werewolf community.

"I'm going to cut your balls off and feed them to the rogues, Keith!" roared May, breaking me out of my thoughts. What did I tell you? She's intimidating. I looked up and saw May chasing a laughing Keith around the backyard, yes, we train the backyard. Our house is located in the middle of the forest, no one is able to find out where we live, since it's confusing to find where we live. Keith, May, and I don't go to school. We're all smart. We're not drop-outs or anything, it's just we are all smart, plus we don't want to risk the fact that werewolves can find out that we're Protectors.

"Cassidy! Are you just going to sit there and watch or are you gonna help me?" shouted Keith. He was currently pinned down by May. I grinned and stood up.

"Alright, alright, that's enough for today. We have patrolling to do," I said, yanking May off from Keith. Keith could've just pushed her off since he's stronger than her but he doesn't want to set May off, again. Never leave them two in the same room together, they'll end up killing each other.

I grabbed my quiver, that held my arrows, and my mum's bow off from the ground and slung them over my shoulder. May grabbed her pocket knife and daggers and stuffed them in her boots and pockets. Keith grabbed the claw wolfs-bane and put it in his pockets. We started to make our way into the forest, we usually just separate and meet back at the house when we finish, so that's what we did. I grabbed one arrow and locked it in my bow, ready to shoot. As I came closer to the pack house, I heard voices.

I stood in the shadows, watching the Alpha, Luna, Alpha's son, and his normal group, playing around, laughing, and joking around. My eyes focused on the Alpha's son, Saxon. I knew he was my mate, years ago when I was scouting for any hunters or rogues, I accidentally locked eyes with him for a brief moment. I made sure to stay away from the pack house or to just stay away from him ever since then. I couldn't get attached to him. I didn't want a repeat of what happened to my mum and father, ever. He was gorgeous though. His right arm is covered in tattoos, making him look intimidating, but, he has this cute boy face, so it makes him look strong but while childish and cute. He has short, dirty blond hair, styled, like always. He's a sight to see alright...wait, what the hell am I thinking?

The Luna's scream brought me out of my thoughts. I zoned in on the hunter, shit. I watched as the Alpha's body fall to the ground. I looked closely at the hunter's needle, the substance was blue. Damn. Blue Moon Dust. I quickly got into my stance and launched the arrow, hitting him straight in the heart, I watched as his body crumbled to dust. Everyone froze. Their heads snapped over to where the arrow came from, but I was quick, I quickly grabbed the Alpha's body and ran towards my house.

Once I entered in the house, Keith came running to my side.

"Keith, get the antidote for Blue Moon Dust," I ordered. He nodded and grabbed it, along with a needle. I quickly pumped the antidote into the Alpha's body. I listened quietly as his heart beat went back to normal, the next thing you know, he puked out the poison. Good. That's supposed to happen. I quickly wrote a note and stuck it onto the Alpha's shirt and rushed back to the pack house. I laid the Alpha's body on the front steps and knocked. I quickly ran over to the shadows, watching.

~~Saxon's P.O.V.~~

As soon as I heard my mum's scream, I snapped my head towards hers and saw my father's body fall to the ground, standing behind him was a hunter. Fuck. Everyone forgot to use their senses. Out of no where, an arrow hit the hunter in the heart, we watched as his body turn into dust. We snapped our heads towards from where the arrow came from, no one there. When we looked back to where my father was, his body was gone.

"Everyone, quickly go inside, now," said my mum. Everyone rushed inside. We all knew who came to our rescue. A Protector. I hate how they never show themselves, we want to be able to thank them for everything, especially from the past.

"It's the arrow Protector," said my friend, Nick. We only knew there was three of them. One of them used arrows, the second one used daggers, third one...well...the third one used something weird. We never found out what the third one does, we've seen the affect, but it's impossible. It's basically tipped off claws, wolfs-bane. No werewolf has been able to do that, so it's never been easy to find out what the third one does.

Everyone stopped talking when there was a knock at the door. I moved over to where the door is and slowly opened it. I peaked out of the door and saw my father laying there. I carried his body in the house and settled him down on the table.

"There's a note," said my mum. I grabbed the note from my father's chest and read it out loud.

"Dear fellow werewolves, next time, keep your senses on guard, you never know when I'll be watching or when I won't be," I said. Everyone now knew who was the savior. It was a Protector.

"Later on, we'll go out in the forest when your father wakes up and thank them," said my mother. I nodded in agreement. There was another knock at the door. Nick bolted towards the door, when he opened it, he frowned.

"Damn. I was hoping to see if I can catch our mystery Protector," he said. He grabbed the basket from front steps and put it next to my father.

"Make sure the Alpha takes these antidotes every night before he goes to sleep. It'll help subdue the Blue Moon Dust. Once he finishes all of the bottles, he'll be functioning properly. Oh, you don't owe me anything, I don't do this for a price, I do it because you are my fellow werewolves," said Nick, reading the note. My mum opened the basket and there was five tiny little bottles.

"You know what I wanna know?" asked Peter. Everyone looked at him

     "What?" I asked.

"Why don't they show themselves?" he asked whilst scrunching his face up in wonder. That question got everyone thinking.

Later on in the day, my father woke up, puking out the poison. That's a good sign, even though that's nasty. When I was staring out of the window, I saw a flash of movement. I knew it had to be one of the Protectors. Why don't they show themselves, Peter's question ran through my mind. Why don't they though? Are they scared? They can't be, if their willing to kill rogues or hunters than they arn't scared. Then what could be a possibility? In the background, I could hear my mum sobbing, and holding onto my father, tightly, telling him how scared she was of losing him whilst he just cooed her. I wonder what it'll be like when I find my mate. Will she be disgusted of how I sleep with many other girls? Or will she make me chase after her? My thoughts drifted off of how she'll probably look like.

That night I went to sleep with many questions running through my head. I thought about my mate and about the Protectors.
