Chapter 40

Colton's P.O.V- Before Chace met Katherine

            Our dark clothes helped us blend in to the night and the scent that our pack had made also helped. My dagger was held in my hand ready to be awakened and stabbed at any one who gets in my way. I felt like a knight in the fairy-tales who was going on a mission to save a beautiful princess. Fairy tales may not be true but doesn't mean fairy tale moments aren't.

"Liam, it's your go." I told Liam through the mind link and I knew that everybody could hear it.

          "Okay I'm going in." Liam responded. I watched from behind a tree as Liam went in. He knew the plan. Liam goes in to the basement where Katherine is most likely being held and get her while we fight on the surface, it was our diversion . We waited a few seconds and then a blonde guy came out of the house, he took a cigar into his hands and lit it, I watched as he put it to his mouth and smoked. However, a pair of footsteps coming from the distance where we were hidden made him stop and look around. Idiot I cursed to that person mentally.

        However the guy shrugged and looked away but another footstep came and he looked back into my direction. And then he yelled, "guys I think we have company." A couple more guys came outside and I couldn't stop the snarl that had left my mouth, dammit where the hell is Liam!

"Show yourself coward." The guy called, he dropped his cigarette and looked around blankly.

I chuckled darkly and came out from behind the tree, "The only coward here is your Alpha. Where the fuck is he?"

The guy growled at me for dissing his Alpha and I smirked, "Who the hell are you?"

I chuckled darkly again, "Your worst nightmare."

             The guy charged at me and I easily dodged him as I moved to the left however before I could turned around another guy charged at me making me fall back onto the floor and I snarled as I jumped up. The blonde guy again charged at me and we both fell to the floor he started punching my ribs and my face, as an Alpha my strength was far greater than his. His attacks made little impact but nothing great. I pushed him off me and threw him against the other three guys who all stumbled back and then he chuckled. "Four against one doesn't seem fair does it?" He teased.

            "Who said I'm alone?" I retorted. Then I heard footsteps behind me and at least twelve people stepped out and the look on their faces was priceless. We were ready to attack but the sound of a door closing and opening tore our attention towards Nicklaus stepping out with Kayla. I wasn't surprised I kind of saw it coming.

Liam's voice came into my head ,'Alpha Katherine's not here.'

I frowned and replied, 'What do you mean not here?'

             'She's gone. All the chains in the basement have been unlocked and there's some pieces of shredded clothes on the floor that smell like Katherine. I searched the whole house but she's not here. I just fought with someone and asked them where she was but they didn't know themselves.'

            'Get back here.We'll sort something out.' I looked around and my eyes stopped at Chace and then I communicated with him using the mind link and I said, 'Chace, Katherine is gone and nobody knows how but you have to find her quick look around but don't tell anyone.

'What-' He started but I interrupted him.

'Don't ask questions just go.' He nodded at me and silently left however Logan saw this and frowned at me.

"Well aren't you a bit late?" Nicklaus asked clearly amused.

I snarled at him, "Where's Katherine?"

He chuckled, "Are you that dumb? Where do you think she is?"

"I would say in the basement but she's clearly not."

He frowned, "What do you mean?"

                  "I mean that my little mate has gone AWOL right under your noses and you didn't realise." I chuckled and smirked, "Oh she's good. However the real question is why was there torn pieces of her clothes on the floor?"

Nicklaus frowned and then smirked, "I may have tortured her a bit."

       I scowled at him and then growled, "I would love to stay here and kick your fucked up coward little ass but I have my mate to find however I know that I will see you soon. Till next time Nicklaus." I lead the pack away from Nicklaus with a smirk on my face.

Katherine's P.O.V

"So what happened after I left?" I asked Chace, as I sat besides him on a log.

"Well Alice told everyone about the baby Aden took it quite well and a bit weird."

I chuckled, "That boy has always been weird. Anything else?"

"And Summer came back as well as Peyton."

"Really? That's great. Why all of a sudden?"

        "Turns out Peyton and Summer are friends so when Summer told Peyton about the werewolf thing she consulted Summer about it and it led to them coming over to the pack house. Skylar and I are getting our mates."

"That's so awesome! I'm so happy for you guys." I smiled at him and hugged him but winced at the contact slightly. Chace noticed this and pulled away.

He smiled, "Thanks."

       I looked at Natalia, who was picking up the flowers off the side she was so innocent and cute, and then I looked towards Connor who looked lost in his own world as he sat besides his tent. "Have any of you guys got mates?"

Natalia looked up and smiled, "No, not yet." She answered.

Connor didn't say anything and I looked at him with a frown, "What about you Connor?"

           He looked up at me, his blue eyes full of pain and hurt, "I don't want to talk about it." He answered through gritted teeth and went into his tent. I glanced at Natalia and she gave me a look that said 'Sorry about that' and I sighed. A couple of minutes later, after me, Natalia and Chace had finished arguing over which chocolate spread was better I of course won- Nutella always wins, I opened the zip of Connor's tent who looked up at me in surprise as I went in and sat besides him.

                We sat there in silence for a while before I sighed and said, "Wanna talk about it?" He didn't respond and I turned my body to face him fully. "I learnt that it's better to talk about stuff then to keep it hidden." Still nothing. "I used to get bullied believe it or not by my mate, my old pack and even by my brother so I ran. I ran away and that's when I met Chace and I'm so glad I did. Chace introduced me to Logan who gratefully took me in and they all accepted me. However, I hardly spoke to any one about my past I used to talk a bit about it to Chace, he's like my older brother, and then one day I just poured my heart out and you know what it felt so good! My old pack, the Midnight Pack, had to come stay with us because of Nicklaus. At first I was pissed off with all of them and gave them some verbal abuse and it felt good but then the past was forgotten. We moved on. Everything was going good until the baby thing and my parents and this." He looked down at the floor and I sighed, "My point is it's better to talk about the past and try to move on then to hold on to it forever. If you don't let go you'll be miserable forever." He still didn't say anything.

         I moved to leave but then he spoke, "She died. Annabelle died." He said his voice croaky. I froze and slowly turned to look at him, that's when I realised that he had been crying. I didn't say anything I just sat besides him. "We went on holiday to America together, it was our anniversary." I smiled slightly, "I rented a cabin besides a wood, it was a cute little family one. We decided to go on a run. She wanted to run some more but I was too exhausted to go on so I told her to run without me." He smiled at the memory and then he frowned and looked away. "I heard her scream after a couple of minutes. I ran off to search for her and found her dead on the floor with a silver bullet through her heart." A tear slid down his cheeks and I felt my eyes go watery, "A hunter was staying in a cabin not too far off. He shot her. I should have been there with her, it should have been me. God I was so stupid! I stood there watching her slowly transform from her wolf to her human form. I watched her die."

"Oh my god." I whispered.

      "She was pregnant but I didn't know until her funeral. She wanted it to be a surprise that night but I never found out that I was going to be a Dad. I loved her so damn much. I know that you watched your parents die but I'm still going to say this you will never understand the pain I felt watching her die with my child inside her. I had to set up her funeral and help bury her because her parents were too much in a shock to do anything. I watched as she got buried along with my baby."

         Tears fell from my eyes, "I am so sorry Connor. I know that I would never understand how you felt then. A child's love for their parents is different from their love to their mate in a way it's much stronger." He said nothing but stared down at the ground, "I know this is a stupid question but I have to ask did you ever try moving on?"

He nodded, "I did but it was too hard. I saw her face everywhere."

"I'm pretty sure Annabelle would have wanted you to move on and be happy." He shrugged.

         "Katherine?" A familiar voice called from outside the tent. It sent my heart in a flutter. I jumped out of the tent and leaped into Colton's arm. He stumbled back slightly and hugged me tightly. I hissed in pain and he quickly set me down. He clutched my face and examined my body. He let out a growl, "what did they do to you? I'm so sorry that we didn't get there sooner. I'm so sorry Katherine."

"I'm fine. Thanks to Natalia and Connor."

"Who?"

          I turned around and dragged Colton towards Natalia and Connor. Natalia hid behind her brother slightly, I could tell she was intimidated by Colton. He was tall and muscular and compared to her petite size he seemed like a giant, "This is Natalia and Connor they saved me. They helped me out of the basement."

"Thank you for saving my mate." Colton thanked them, "If there is a way that I can repay you then please let me know."

I smiled, then frowned and turned to face him, "How did you know where to find me?"

"Chace told me." He replied casually.

"How? He has no mobile phone on him and we aren't in the same pack so how?"

"Well, we are in the same pack now."

"What?"

"Logan and I fought over the Alpha position so it would be easier to contact every one, it was nothing brutal, and I won."

"So we're like the Midnight Shadow Pack now?"

He chuckled and his blue eyes lit up. Oh how I missed those eyes and his familiar scent, "Yes. I guess we are."

       "Where is everyone else?" As if on cue Skylar and Liam appeared out of nowhere, Damen, Aden and Mason followed and then Logan and a couple of other guys from the pack followed. Skylar, Liam, Mason and Logan all ran up and enveloped me into a bear hug. "Okay guys I can't breathe." I told them in a croaky voice as I was being chocked.They all chuckled and moved away.

"Oh we missed you Kit- Kat." Skylar told me.

"I missed you calling me Kit- Kat!" I told him honestly and hugged him lightly.

"We're so glad that you're okay." Liam told me.

          Mason looked over at my bruised and bandaged body, "those pricks!" He said but then quickly enveloped me in a hug, "I can't imagine how hard it was for you to see Mum and Dad die and how hard it must have been for you to be with Nicklaus. But we're here now and we're never leaving you okay?" I pulled away and smiled. I introduced Natalia and Connor to the boys who all greeted them warmly and thanked them.

        Logan then came out from the shadows and into the open space that we stood in. He looked at me, smiled and then hugged me. "Thank god you're okay," He said and I pulled away. He frowned and then sniffed the air.

"Is everything okay Logan?" His eyes fell onto Natalia who was looking back at him wide eyed. I was going to ask what was going on when Logan spoke up.

"Mate!"

Liam: What is this place?

Interviewer: Shut up you two hotties! Off to the questions.... So Katherine, how do you feel about getting rescued?

Katherine: *Confused face* Um, happy at least I'm away from Nick, the psycho, and his bitch Kayla.

Kayla: Excuse me? Who are you calling a bitch?

Katherine: You, of course.

Nick: Now, now, ladies lets be a bit civil and Katherine how the hell did you get out?

Interviewer: Hush Kitty, well kitties! I ask the questions here. Not you.

Nick: But-

Interviewer: Shut up Nick. No one likes you and you too Kayla.

Kayla: Wh-

Interviewer: MOVING ON! Hey Colton *drools* Did anybody tell you that you look like Matt Lanter?

Colton: Um...

Interviwer: *fanning herself* So Hot! Anyways.... did you know that Katherine likes Connor?

All: WHAT?

Connor: Huh...

Natalia: Um...

Logan: What is going on?

Katherine: Whoa, where did that come from?

Interviewer: I ASK THE QUESTIONS REMEMBER! You guys had a pretty intimate scene in the tent. I'm pretty sure the fans ship you and Connor.

Colton: An intimate scene? When was this?

Katherine: Colton, it was nothing.

Colton: Nothing?

Katherine: Oh for gods sake! We were talking about his dead mate. R.I.P Isabelle

Connor: It's Annabelle

Katherine: Oh Sorry.
