Chapter Twenty-Five | Educated

Last Chapter:

"We want you to help our cause. Help keep the innocents safe from harm. What do you say?" Oliver asked. Vivienne put her index finger on her chin, showing them that she was contemplating it. Her inner conscience refused violently. This is ridiculous. You are loyal to the League, not these costumed freaks.

"Um, no." Vivienne responded, standing up and walking away.

"You're either with us or against us Vivienne," Bruce stated to her back. Everyone motioned for Bruce to shut the hell up. They didn't want anything to do with her if she wasn't on their side. Vivienne paused her stroll, turning her head slightly so they could see the profile of her face. She smirked,

"Perfect," she whispered, sending shivers down their spines.

Now:

"Bruce, I don't wanna die," Dick said anxiously after their rejection. Jason and Tim both nodded their heads in agreement.

"No one's going to die, boys. Even if she doesn't want to join us, she won't hurt anyone for no reason," Bruce responded.

"How can you be so sure?" Jason asked warily, an eyebrow arched.

"She's smart, not evil," he replied shortly. Everyone wondered if she could possibly have good in her. Damian didn't have a doubt,

"Vivienne's a good person. I know it. She's my sister," Damian said, almost arrogantly. Bruce rolled his eyes.

"So are we just going to let the press find out about a fifteen year old girl living in the manor?" Tim asked nervously.

"Of course," Bruce said, though there was obviously something more.

"What aren't you telling us?" Oliver said, his arm around Dinah's waist.

"To ease suspicion she has to act normal, like a teenager. She has to go to school with Damian and Tim." he explained, making everyone's eyes grow wide.

"You can't be serious Bruce! She'll rip them to shreds! Students, teachers, anyone and everyone! Vivienne's not gonna agree to go to school anyway. She doesn't need to and for the sake of her classmates, she shouldn't. Besides, she doesn't even have a cover story," Artemis reasoned desperately, crossing her arms.

"Tim and Damian are perfectly capable of keeping her in check. Aren't you, boys? As for the story, she's the daughter of a friend of mine, who is currently traveling, so she's staying with us." he mused, an amused smirk on his lips. Damian and Tim shook their heads fervently.

"Whatever Vivienne says, goes. No one can stop her. Not even me and Demon Spawn. She's not going to like the publicity," Tim chimed in. In actuality he just cringed inwardly at the thought of Vivienne admitting all of the school's idiots to the hospital.

"That's final, Tim. Now we just need to tell Vivienne," Bruce stated sternly. Bruce called out her name, his voice echoing off the walls of the manor. She slid down the steps silently.

"Mister Wayne?" she called out almost mockingly, but paused. She gazed intently into his eyes without a word, emotionless. Bruce would never admit it, but the great Batman almost shrunk back from the stare of the fifteen year old girl. Vivienne sighed and straightened.

"I'm perfectly educated as is. People are going to get hurt, you know." Vivienne stated calmly. The group was shocked she knew what he was going to say, though soon remembered her ability to read people like a book. She sighed, disappointed.

"I learned more than what most can in their lifetime by the age of two, went to college at fifteen, and now you're sending me to high school? Your curriculum is questionable, Mister Wayne," Vivienne commented dryly, her face impassive as always.

"Is that a yes?" Bruce asked, quirking an eyebrow. Vivienne shook her head.

"I would never willingly agree to this. Mother has told me to stay here to get to know my brother and father-in-law, not those morons," Vivienne replied.

"What are you going to do while we're gone, then?" Dick asked.

"I'll manage," Vivienne said, promptly walking back the way she came.

"Wait just a second, Vivienne," Bruce called out to her departing figure, confusing the group. Vivienne stopped in her tracks, but didn't turn to face him.

"How do you expect people to react when they find out a mysterious girl living with a billionaire's family. Not to mention, she's never been spotted at school with her brothers. Nameless." he explained, desperate. She sat next to Damian silently, her face in a stone expression.

"Fine. I will attend your poor excuse of a school. On one condition," Vivienne said, surprising everyone with her agreement.

"I'll be put into only the most advanced classes. I don't want to spend my time doing the work of a first grader. I also would like to be in most of Damian's classes. I assume he is already in those courses, correct?" she asked. Bruce nodded

"Okay. That can be arranged. You're starting once winter vacation ends, which just so happens to be tomorrow," Bruce said. Vivienne sighed angrily.

"Can I at least dye my hair back to brown? It draws less attention," she pleaded. Damian instantly stood up, turning to face her.

"No! You are not changing your hair color! I don't care if it's odd, or that you're my sister, you're my Snow Rabbit! You're keeping it!" he shouted, shocking everyone but Vivienne, She reached up and pulled Damian back to the couch by his shoulders, rubbing his back.

"Damian, I'm no longer Katherine. I'm sorry....Lucy. However, if it bothers you that much, I won't do anything. Okay?" Vivienne consoled softly. Tears pricked at Damian's eyes at the sound of his old nickname, knowing he wouldn't hear it again. Everyone stared at the siblings, marveling at how different they acted towards one another in comparison to themselves.

"Okay. Please don't change, Vivienne," Damian replied, his eyed begging.

"I'd never change, Damian. I promise." she swore.

None of them knew how short that promise would last.
