Chapter 3

Hey!

Sorry this chapter is shorter than the past few ones I've written. :) Enjoy!

“Sam,” Josh shook me again, “wake up.”

I groaned. “What time is it?”

   “Seven in the morning.”

I groaned sleepily again. “Why do we have to wake up at seven in the morning?” I rubbed my eyes open.

“The maid came in here and informed me that your mom is slowly waking up and realizing where she’s at. I highly doubt she’ll like you cuddling in bed with your new step brother in only his shirt.”

I rolled my eyes as soon as I opened them. “Alright,” I sighed, “I’m up.”

He smiled. “Well, good morning beautiful.”

I smiled and hugged him. “Can I take a shower?”

“You know where it’s at.” He pointed to the door.

I kissed him on his forehead, and grabbed my pile of stuff before walking out of his room. I walked into his bathroom, and turned on the shower. I liked really hot showers, so I was hoping his water got super hot. I pulled off the t-shirt, and tossed it into a dirty clothes hamper. I removed my bra and panties, and stuck them on my pile of clothing. I didn’t like to re-wear panties, but I kind of had to this time. I hopped in the shower, and washed up. He had his shampoo and conditioner, but then had women’s shampoo and conditioner.

When I was done with my shower, I threw on my clothes, and went back into his room. He was wearing a pair of jeans with a black t-shirt. He smiled at me as he watched me close the door. I walked over to him, and wrapped my arms around his neck.

“What?” It seemed as if he was questioning me looking at him.

“You’re the best step brother ever.”

He smiled at that, and kissed me softly on the lips. I kissed back, reminding myself that my time with him was over. I had to go back home now, and I would probably never even see him anymore. I frowned, and I know he felt it in the kiss, because he let go and looked at me.

“It’s not over…” It’s like he read my mind.

“I highly doubt my dad will ever want me over here, and I don’t know how my mom would react.”

“We can text. I can drive. There are so many things that we could do together. We could call it our bonding time.” He smirked.

I stared at his diamond blue eyes. “You’re just amazing.”

He pulled me into another kiss, and then walked over to his dresser to grab his brush. He started brushing out his hair, and styling it.

“Are you hungry?” He held out his hand for me to take it.

“A bit…” I took his hand and he led me out of the room.

We walked into the kitchen, and sat at the bar counter.

“Francesca,” he was addressing the maid, “can you make us some bacon and eggs?” He looked over at me for my approval.

I nodded and smiled. As we waited for our breakfast, we talked about the wedding with Francesca.

“Ms. Patricia looked so beautiful in her wedding gown!” Francesca exclaimed in her Latin accent.

I rolled my eyes. Her name was Patricia. I wondered if I could get away with calling her Patty. I’m sure I would end up calling her cow Patty behind her back.

“She had the dress shipped in fromItaly.” Josh informed her.

“One day I hope I can get a wedding gown shipped in fromItaly…” She said dreamily.

“I’m sure any man would be lucky to have such a beautiful woman like yourself.” He looked at me when he said it, but made it sound like he was talking to her.

   I blushed.

“You really think so?” Francesca asked as she started flipping the bacon.

“I don’t see how a man could look at you and not see all you have to offer.” He winked at me after he said that again.

“Oh Mr. Josh,” she turned to look at him, “always the sweet talker.”

He chuckled, and looked at me. “Oh, Francesca, I don’t think you’ve met Sam yet.”

She turned to face me, and curtsied. “The pleasure is all mine, Miss Sam.”

I blushed. “Josh was right, though. You are really beautiful.”

She blushed a little as well. “Thank you.”

I smiled at her, and then held Josh’s hand under the counter. She told us about what we missed at the reception. I guess Grammy Susanne ended up flashing everyone. Some lady named Elise almost got into a fight with my Aunt Mary. That was pretty much it for excitement.

“We didn’t miss too much then.” Josh said.

“Well,” she placed plates in front of us, “here is your breakfast. I will leave you two alone.”

She walked out, and closed the door to the kitchen behind her. Josh looked over at the door, and then back at me.

“So…” I stuffed a fork full of eggs into my mouth.

“Be careful with what you say. Francesca is sweet, but she likes to eavesdrop.”

   “Ok…”

“So, um,” he was thinking about something to talk about, “do you know where you want to go?”

   “We’re going somewhere?”

“When we hang out together…for the first time.” He winked.

“Oh,” I laughed a little, “maybe bowling?”

He nodded, and took a bite out of his bacon. “That sounds fun.”

“What do you want to do?”

“It doesn’t matter. I’m pretty much up for anything.”

   “Oh…”

We ate in silence for a few minutes before Dad and Patricia walked into the kitchen, giggling. Dad was holding her by the waist, and they walked over to the stove to get some eggs and bacon. I rolled my eyes. They made me lose my appetite.

“Good morning Josh…” Dad looked over at me. “Sam? I didn’t know you stayed the night!”

“Josh suggested me and Mom do so, because she was wasted.”

“Your mom always did have a problem with drinking…” Dad said.

I rolled my eyes again. I was trying to do what Mom said, and just let him have his moment. I started taking small bites of the eggs.

   “So, Samantha…” Patricia started.

“It’s Sam…” I stared down at my eggs and refused to make eye contact with her.

“Sam…” She corrected herself. “It’s so nice to finally meet you! I’ve been waiting to have a girl around the house. It gets so boring with these two.” She pointed at Dad and Josh.

“Who says I’m going to be around the house?” I kept staring down at my food.

“Oh, I thought you’d want to stay with us for awhile before school starts back up.”

“Why would I want to…” I stopped talking. “I’ll think about it.”

I finally looked up at her. She had the same shade of blonde hair as I did. She had the same beautiful, diamond blue eyes that Josh did. She was very tall, and very skinny, but had a slight curve. She looked like she could be a professional model. Instead of seeing what I thought would be a smile on her face, she just looked at me with a frown. I felt bad for her.

“I’m sorry…” I began. “I don’t have anything against you, but I don’t like how my father deserted my mom and me, and then started a new life with you guys.”

“I completely understand. I’m sorry for coming on so strong. I was just so excited to finally meet my new step daughter.”

I cringed at the thought, and then shook it off before she could tell. “I’m excited to have a step mom too. It’s definitely a new experience for me.” I half-smiled at her, and continued to eat my eggs.

“So what were you two up to last night? We barely saw you at all!” Dad gave Patricia a plate, and set a plate down for himself.

I looked over to Josh. He looked down at his food, and then back up at Patricia and Dad.

“We had a pillow fight, and watched movies. It was like a real sleepover.” He chuckled.

Patricia and Dad laughed heartily, and then it was awkwardly silent again. Mom walked in a few minutes later. Her hair was all over the place, and one of the straps of her dress had drooped off of her shoulder. Her make-up was all over her angry face. I knew she wasn’t happy to be waking up in Dad’s house.

“Sam, let’s go home.” She hissed.

“Kat,” Dad used her old nickname, “eat some breakfast with us before you just leave.”

“No thanks,” she glared at Dad, “I lost my appetite when I woke up in your house.”

“Katherine, please join us for breakfast. Francesca made eggs and bacon.” Patricia spoke to Mom softly with a smile.

Mom was about to speak when she cupped a hand over her mouth. She held up a finger, and ran out of the kitchen and, most likely, into the bathroom. I kept my eyes down, not speaking a word.

“I wish she wasn’t so stubborn…” Dad whispered to Patricia.

I kept my cool, and took a bite of bacon.

“We just offered her breakfast…” Patricia whispered back.

That was the last straw. “You know what Patricia?” I spit and put emphasis on her name. “My stubborn mother was with my dad first! She had him first! He had a family before he met you! He had a family that he should’ve been providing for the past thirteen years!” I got up out of my chair. “He left us, and only stayed in contact with us so he could show off all of his…luxuries! Don’t either of you ever talk about my mother like that ever again!” I pointed my finger at my dad. “You know why she doesn’t want to eat breakfast here? Because the man she never stopped loving is happy with a woman he was seeing behind her back! She stayed faithful to you all the years you two were together! She loved you, and cared for you, and lived to make you happy! You didn’t care, though! You just left, and then gave her a phone call one day and said you weren’t coming home! I had to live my whole life without a father! You say love is the reason you left my mother? I’d rethink that! It was pure stupidity!” I glared at my father.

Everyone in the kitchen had their jaws dropped. I was breathing heavily, trying my best to keep myself from strangling the woman that destroyed our family. I couldn’t even look over at her. A few angry tears started escaping my eyes, and I wiped them off of my face. No one said anything.

“I knew coming to your wedding was a bad idea. It’s always a bad idea to accept your invitations. Good bye, Dad. Good bye, Patricia. I’ll text you, Josh.” I hugged Josh, and stormed out of the kitchen.

I wiped away tears that were streaming quickly down my face now. I yelled out for my mom, and looked around for her. She came up behind me, and hugged me.

   “Thank you, Sammy…”

“No problem… I just want to go home.”

“We can do that.” She wrapped an arm around my shoulders, and we walked out of the house.

I loved Josh, but I don’t see how he lived with those two people. I didn’t see how he was so sweet. It made no sense to me. I was excited to get out of my dad’s house. I never planned on going back.
