Eternal Nightmare

AN: I got the inspiration to write this from a drabble by Firehedgehog on ao3.

Note: I originally had this in my One-shot book, but I have a so many ideas about it that I decided to give it it's own book.

There was very little about his existens that had changed. He was still stuck in the same place. Stuck in a place that had only been his once upon a time. It was not his so much anymore.

The walls and roof above him dripped in a black substance, it was suffocating. It no longer showed the star-filled sky he had once admire so. There was nothing left but that tainted substance coating his mindscape.

How long had it been?

How long had it been since he saw the real world with his own eyes.

How long had it been since he was in control? He could not really remember.

~~Time skip brought by Cross chasing after a flying chocolate bar~~

Time seems almost non-existence here, but he knew it had been centuries since he had been trapped in this place.

If he wanted, he could see what was going on in the real world through that monsters eyes. However, doing so only made his core, his soul hurt more.

That thing had taken everything from him. His whole life. Right now it walked around in his body, using his voice, even if both had been changed almost beyond recognition. If it had only been that, maybe he could have learned to accept it. It was his own fault after all.

But no.

That thing had even took his name, and he new why.

It was only to hurt his brother.

It was only to let his brother believe his older twin had become an abomination. For that reason only he resented the loss of his name, since he had lost any attachments he had for it long ago.

There was nothing good about Nightmares anyway.

Nobody liked Nightmare then, and nobody liked Nightmare now.

The only one that had ever cared was Dream.

~~Another time ship brought to you by Cross, this time covered in chocolate~~

The thing was fighting his brother again, and the abomination was wining.

All he could do was watch, watch and pray that some of his brothers allies would arrive to help him.

No such luck though.

The guardian of negativity was forced to watch as the thing in possession of his body and his name approached Dream, ready to strike the finishing blow.

To rid the multiverse of its guardian of positivity once and for all.

He could not let this happen, he could not let that thing kill his brother. Not with his hands, not with his brother thinking it is him.

But what could he do?

What little control he had left was only enough to let him be aware. If he used what magic he had gathered throughout his time here that thing would notice he was not completely gone.

It might be the end of him, but at this point he did not care. At least his brother would live on.

His brother was always the better one anyway.

He reached out, his whole being strained. The midnight blue magic gathered and his left arm was free, it was his to control again.

The feeling of the being connected to the real world was overwhelming, but he could not lose it right now. He needed to utilize what element of surprise he had, that thing could suppress him at any moment.

In a second, he manage to create a portal under Dream. He hoped it was to somewhere safe.

The thing noticed, it screamed in anger. His brother stared in shock on his left arm while falling through the portal. He closed it afterwards, it would all be for nothing if the thing followed Dream.

As the portal closed he could feel his control slipping. That thing was retaking control, he could feel the connection being broken.

His awareness started to fade...

...and then he was gone.
