_twenty one

"This day sure was a fucking drag," You chuckle as you go to sit next to Dabi. He chuckles at your approaching form, making room beside him as you both sit near the edge of the less-than-impressive building next to yours. You cross your legs, handing him the cup of noodles you saved for him. He hums, not hesitating to dig right into it as you continue to gawk at the scenery before you. It had been a few hours since your most previous attempted kidnapping, swirling the soup in your hands as you sigh.

"Something on your mind?" He asks, pulling away the cup from his face as you turn to him with a raised brow. You snicker, watching a stray piece of noodle on his chin. He does the same, raising a hand to his face and touching everywhere but where the noodle is. You rolled your eyes with humor, watching as he grins very foxlike. "What? Isn't this the part where you lean over and clean it off?" You laugh, shaking your head as you turn to him with a, "Seriously? What is up with your love for all things cliché?"

"Why not? I think it's fun. Come on babe, we all know where this goes," You chortle once again, deciding that you might as well bite the bullet with this one. Setting down your soup on your right to avoid accidentally spilling it in any chance, you go and turn to do it, but find him a few feet away further than earlier. You scoff, the grin on his face never subsiding. Having to actually lean towards him now, you go do so.

You lean on your knee, hand reaching out to grab the noodle he sloppily got onto his chin. Eugh, this is a grown man why are you agreeing to do this? Pushing away whatever pride you had, you go and scoff again as he inches away even more. "Dabi!"

"What?" He laughs, holding a look of innocence as you go back to your original seat. Scooting over closer and moving a little quickly this time to make sure he didn't have any chance at fucking around, you were quite surprised to find him grabbing your hand and throwing you completely off your balance. You yelp, almost screamed, when you tumbled towards him. You were at the edge of a building for fuck's sake! Somebody remind this smooth motherfucker that you didn't exactly have nine lives?! "Dabi. . !" It seems that he wasn't participating the fall either, landing on his back with a small grunt. He blinks away the slight shock, but is soon back to smirking like this was the best situation to ever be in not even a second later. "You're cute,"

You tried to get out of his grip and sit back up, wanting to finish your noodles, but sigh in defeat as his grip now went to your waist. Ah yes, we apparently enjoy being held against our will at the edge of a building two feet away from falling, because we are mentally healthy people.

Deciding that this was your life now, you go and adjust your position to lay both your hands on his chest and getting comfortable. He doesn't even bother keeping up the act, getting rid of the noodle long ago and laying back on the cement in content. "You really can't just ask me to do stuff like this like a normal person, huh?" You hummed, feeling the vibration against his chest as he guffaws. "Well, I'm not really normal now am I?" He lifts his head to smile cheekily at you, before leaning back down again with a grunt, mumbling a quiet, "Christ that's tiring."

"Hmm," You chuckle, "guess there's some truth to that." Silence falls over the two of you as you gaze at the setting sun over the New York city horizon, the painted clouds and sky making you mentally trace shapes over the abundance of colors. Purple, orange, red. . . man, you should really make a dress out of that. It'd make for an interesting concept, although maybe slightly redundant, it'd still look nice on both paper and final design. Raven always did look nice in warm colors, so having. . . maybe a ballgown would suit the sunset motif you'd want. Would it be sleeveless? Her shoulders and overall frame is something to admire, so showing it off would be—

"Hey Y/N," You perk at the sudden change of tone in Dabi's voice, sounding a lot softer as you hummed to say he had your attention. "You still haven't answered my question, you know," You turn to him, raising a brow as he chuckles. "I meant from earlier. 'What are we?' And don't you dare start on that human-species bullshit again," You ended up laughing, putting on a fake offended look as a smile settles on his face. "Yeah, I'm not really sure, dude." You shrugged the best you could, grunting slightly as you pushed yourself up and laid near his collar. He smelled musky, and like smoke. You could only describe it as smelling baked pie while trapped inside a burning house. You don't know why the mental image was more than a little bit cruel to think about, but it's what you pictured Dabi in so it more than fits.

"Would you say we're dating?" You hum, feeling the way the words almost echoed in his chest against yours, "Going on dates, yeah. Dating, dating," You shrug, again, the best you could, "Not so sure. Why?" He lets out the universal sound of 'I don't know', tilting his head to gaze more at the sun as it was about just a few more inches off from fully covering the city in darkness. Buildings were slowly but surely coming to life in a way he was so used to them seeing, and he could just about make out more and more streetlights below coming to life with each passing seconds of silence. "Guess I'm just curious. I haven't exactly been subtle with my feelings with you now have I?" He watches as you finally sit up, careful not to trip over his cup of noodles and grabbing your own. "Really? Wow, it so wasn't obvious," You both grin and share a snicker at your sarcasm, moving to sit beside him as he was the only thing between both the edge of the building and your form sitting cross-legged. You continue with your food, giving the thought a few more seconds to mull it over.

"But let's say we go on more dates, and I somehow manage to earn your affection equally in return," You slowly quirk a brow as a softly-widening smile grows on your face. He laughs upon seeing your look, "I haven't even finished yet!"

"What? Don't mind me, keep talking," You still couldn't help the cursed high school girl-esque giggle from leaving your throat as he does so with a humored smirk, "We date, I manage to make you fall in love with me. Would you be considered my girlfriend by then?" You look off in exaggeration as though thinking it through, lowering the slowly emptying cup as the evening breeze made itself known. "I don't know. . . what's in it for me?" You joke, earning another laugh from him as he rests both arms behind his head. "Let's see. . . A personal bodyguard, check. A handsome personal body guard, even, double check. A flirty, handsome personal bodyguard who can think for himself. Quadruple check, what's there to not love?"

"My, such narcissism and big words, I'm falling head-over-heels," You both once again chortle at your sarcasm, leaning your head on your hand who's elbow rested on one of your bent legs, "Hmm. . . sounds tempting, but is this flirty handsome personal bodyguard who can think for himself, loyal?"

"Oh, he is, he definitely is." He flashes you his signature charm with a wink, moving to lean on his side with his elbow supporting his head, "And he's a good kisser, so you can have that too," You roll your eyes with a grin, lightly pushing his forehead with your index as he could feel his cheeks start to hurt from the amount of times he's grinned. God, and people wonder why he always held a frown. Smiling a lot is just inconvenient and it hurts okay.

"But all jokes aside, dollface," Said smile grows smaller in size, but it didn't lose the genuine side of it, "It's okay if you don't. I'm not gonna expect you to reciprocate. . . is that the word, or?" You chuckle with a nod, "Yeah that. I'm not gonna expect you to like me back just because I have feelings for you that aren't exactly surface level anymore. It's cool if you don't, but I just thought to ask and see if I still have a chance, you know?" You smile softly at him, reaching over to mess with his hair, surprisingly letting you do so. "So-o, is that a yes?"

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," You laughed, "But since you asked so nicely. . ." You didn't finish your sentence then, just holding the same content look on your face as you gazed at the now dark sky. Dabi continues to stare at you from where he laid, expression unreadable but obvious. Holding back a yawn, you turn to him as you finally finish your food. "You got room?"

He opens his arm as an invite, deciding that to hell your hair, you were gonna lie down and be comfortable, dammit!

You did so, settling into it as you laid your head on his arm that moved to bring you closer. The feeling of rough stone on your back and the stuffiness of your combined many layers weren't helping, but the warmth he radiated—literally, man's a walking, talking furnace—was comforting and more than made up for it. "You know what?" You ended up softly whispering in the quiet, impromptu choice to star gaze, crossing your arms over your chest as you breathed out a smile. "Yeah, I'll accept your challenge."

You could practically hear a smile of his own going on his face, tightening his hold around your shoulders as he chuckles. "Really? Why?"

"Well, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed by your very chill way of basically confessing your undying love to me—your words not mine," He snorts, "And. . . okay well let's just say that I'm uh, not exactly. . ." You cursed yourself inwardly at the growing feeling of heat that spread to your face. And even though he wasn't looking at you, you damn well knew that Dabi was enjoying your madly-blushing face as you tried to explain your reasons of basically accepting the proposal of dating him. "Like I mean okay, you shot my best friend blah blah blah could've happened to anyone and I know it wasn't for your self interest whatever yeah—but my point is. . !"

Your hands wildly gesture, face going redder and redder the more you were left speechless. You soon groan, the phoenix laughing loudly from beside you as you dragged your hands down your face. "This is going nowhere. Just. . . take me out and wait for me to fall in love too or whatever, I don't know! Can we just stop talking about this?!" He continues to do so, removing his arm from below you to lean on his side once again. "I'm right, you are cute,"

You send him a look, earning a makeshift shrug and same foxlike grin from earlier. "So, wanna go for another one tomorrow? Maybe we can go for a proper date that won't involve us running for our lives." You warned him not to jinx it, earning a snicker as he continues, "Eh, I don't know. Almost all of our interactions feel like dates, no? I mean look at us here right now!" He lays back down and proudly gestures to the bright night sky with a wide, child-like grin, sighing once again in content as he scoots closer to you. "So? You wanna just skip all of that and get married right now?"

"Nice try, dork," You flick his forehead with another snicker, "Let's take things slow, rushing this thing will just lead to some nasty shit that I'm sure neither of us would want to deal with." He snorts, rolling his brighy blue eyes jokingly, "Sure, sure. I'm not a patient person, but I'd do it for you, princess." He sends a wink, once again laughing and turning back to the night sky. It was high time you got back home and eat dinner, seeing the moon shining in all it's glory among the multitude of stars that surprisingly showed up tonight. Soft light clouds rolled in the dark blanket, showering the city with the occasional dark shadows and making the lights from below look even brighter.

Tonight felt a lot more calm than usual, despite the chase you had to endure earlier and the overall stress of recent events. When was the last time you ever had enough time to admire the night sky for this long? Much less next to somebody other than your cat. God, and to think that a week or two ago you were practically begging for something interesting to happen in your life. You were happy, yes, but it felt redundant. Boring. Routine feeling less like an imbedded process you're supposed to be used to and instead feeling like an uncomfortable chore you want to procrastinate even just a little bit more. You glance at Dabi again, his eyes closed and softly breathing in the cold air of tonight with a soft hum. His arms had went back to behind his head, looking too serene to still possibly be awake.

"Can I kiss you?" The question came out of nowhere in the supposed quiet, eyebrows raising in surprise at the sudden request. "Oh wow, guess you really aren't subtle." He squints open an eye with a snicker, before closing it once again. "I don't know, you're giving me that look again, and your lips just look really kissable right now."

"Wow, Dabi, way to go making a girl feel special." You softly laugh, getting up and not bothering to dust off your back as you lean over his face. He opens his eyes with a raised brow when his closed sight gets darker, smiling in amusement at the sight of your face. "Hey—" You decided that it was your turn to shut him up, softly landing your lips on his with the corners of your mouth quirked upwards. He kisses back just as easily, hand going to grab the back of your head and pulling you closer.

He pulls away for a moment, eyes scanning your face for any type of discomfort or sign that you weren't enjoying it. But when he spots that dazed look in your eyes, he knew that he wasn't the only one enjoying it. He lifts himself up in one smooth motion, capturing your mouth once again and moving quicker. Your hand instinctively went to press against his chest, grazing the weird texture from the not-so fortunate part of his skin that peeked from beneath his low-collared shirt. You didn't mind it that much really, much distracted by whatever sorcery he had with his lips to really pay attention to how his scars felt under your fingers.

Dabi had managed to. . . basically trap you between his two arms, gloved palms pushed against the cement. You were facing him now, your legs in a weird position you could only describe as one a mermaid would do as your other hand tugged on his coat collar. He was testing the waters, and he didn't fear ever going deeper if you allowed him.

And with the sound that involuntarily escaped your lips and your face lighting up brighter than your average New York skyscraper, he knew that he could. Sliding one of his hands up your back, he manages to push himself up and more over you. He places a knee on the ground, separating your legs in the process as he pulls away just the slightest bit for air. You both were a panting mess, finding the courage to smile and run a finger down the back of his neck. He looked visibly shaken by that, but not exactly in a bad way. (Or so you'd at least hope.)

Inhaling another breath, he starts off the next round with a soft bite to your bottom lip. You slide your arms around his neck, happily parting your lips as you felt his arm hesitate the slightest bit on your thigh. Wow, this man. He's the type to suck on your tongue, no questions asked but also slow down when touching any other part of your body that might just be a little too risqué. You were impressed!

Guiding your one hand to rest on top of his, you lead it to slide down the side as he sighs softly into your mouth. Goodness, where was all this boldness coming from? Go you, you were feeling risky today!

Your leg gets lifted and placed to hook around his side, his hand remaining on the bottom side of your leg as you continued to make out on a random roof. You groan quietly in complaint of the harsh and uncomfortable seating, earning a low chuckle from Dabi as he nods knowingly. Separating to allow you to breathe some more, the hand that stayed on your thigh easily managed to pull you straight onto his lap wih relatively no effort. Now his hand rested on your cheek, the other exploring it's way up your sides and giving you more than a few tickles.

Your breath shudders as you feel his tongue making itself at home with yours, your mouth now wide open as he showed no signs of ever slowing down. It went on like this for a few more minutes, sloppy sounds of the two of you clearly enjoying the night echoing quietly and disappearing late into the dark sky. You were completely pressed against him now, being pulled up as he leans back on the floor. Now you were in the lead! Sweet.

Your hand caressed and massaged his shoulders, going up and down with the occasional stop to rest on the sides of his cheeks. But either way he was into it, one hand going to land and rest dangerously low on your back as that sudden feeling of boldness came back stronger than ever. Now you felt yourself biting his own bottom lip, earning a quiet and muffled groan as you smiled into him. Finally pulling away with a soft pop, you stayed pretty close to his face, his eyes closed and trying to savor whatever feeling he could manage to. Soon he smiles, the line of saliva between you disappearing as your thumb traced the edge of his rough skin.

"Mm, cute," Dabi whispers out of breath, capturing your lips again with a softer version of a kiss and grinning. "Come on, let's get you home."
