I

They bluntly thought I was pathetic over the phone. I called in earlier that week to confirm my schedule since I was unsure. They laughed then hung up in my face probably thinking I was a prank or something. It wasn't a great start to the well paid job I was accepted to.

Nervousness washed over me when I walked up to the front desk. I subtly played with the bottom of my tucked in blouse and spoke nervously to the receptionist.

"Hi, I'm Azalea Travers. This is my first day at Valerian's Corporation." I gave a small smile to seem friendly.

The young lady with her blouse almost halfway unbuttoned looked up at me with a caked face and noticeably scowled. I held back a cringe as a clump of mascara fell off.

"You must be mistaken Missing Link and Co. is down five blocks, have a nice day." She flashed me a fake smile then kept typing. I cleared my throat embarrassment and a slight bit of anger rose and I spoke again.

"No ma'am I'm have a job at Valerian Co."

I heard her say the lines of this must be a mistake and started typing fast across her keyboard. I stood there awkwardly still messing with my plain blouse. I had to rush and find a outfit that looked professional enough due to the fact that I wore casual clothes on a day to day basis. My intern job was with a very laid back company, so business clothes weren't required. My ears picked up her quiet scoff and I saw her roll her eyes and flick them back up to me.

" Your office is 1002, a manual will be on your desk of what you can and can't have and what you can and can't do, have a nice day." She said lazily and goes back to her computer. "Thank you, I didn't catch your name?" I politely said before leaving. She completely ignored me and kept typing on her computer.  I sighed and and sulked down the main hallway. It wasn't a good start for my first day. I heard her mutter something about the corporation downgrading.

I came across a elevator and pressed the button then waited for it to open. I felt a presence behind me and turned my head to slightly to the side. A broad chest blocked my view and I craned my neck up to see a blonde man smiling widely at me. My eyes widened in nervousness and I smiled at him nervously. Never have I been this close to someone attractive.

The elevator dinged and I stepped in along with the joyful man. The doors slid shut and the elevator jerked and moved up.

"Hi." I turned halfway to meet his eyes.

"Hello." I shared a small smile and turned back to the front. I watched the numbers ascend slowly to the top floor.

"So, never seen you. I'm guessing you're new." I could already tell he had a friendly personality.

"Yeah, first day actually."

"Hm, well since it is, I'll give you a piece of advice. I recommend that you don't get on Valerian bad side. He'll fire you in point five seconds if you mess up even the slightest." He warned me. "Cute accent by the way."

"That actually makes me more nervous." I truthfully said. "Thanks too, I'm French." I smiled weakly at him. My eyes caught the companies named engraved into the elevator doors and my mind drifted a bit.

I had heard multiple rumors about Mr. Valerian. Liam Valerian, owned the biggest companies around the world. I couldn't even wrap my mind around on how a he could accomplish more than his own family did at such a young age. On top of that he was and is wealthier than Bill Gates himself.  His down fall though is that he's harsh, cold. Heard he fired someone the minute they walked into the building because he didn't like the way they dressed.

When that thought came to mind my eyes drifted down to my own plain outfit and frowned.

Even if he had a somewhat bad reputation, I didn't like making conclusions on people before I met them, so I was going off a clean slate. The stranger probably noticed my nervousness.

"No worries just, stay out of his way."  He winked at me in reassurance. "What's your name anyways?"  He looked down at me quizzically. The elevator door dinged and we stepped out of the elevator and fell into step.

"I'm Azalea, Azalea Travers." I stretched out my arm for him to take my hand. He took it and firmly shaked it while giving me another warm smile.

"I'm Watson Valerian." confusion flashed across my face as he says his last name. My head tilted to the side looking over his face. He scrunched his eyebrows before letting out a soft chuckle.

"Oh, we just have the same last name." He cleared up. I hummed in response as I counted the numbers on the door. I scanned the floor and noticed that some desks were out in the open and people were staring at me, or more like glaring. The job description didn't warn me that people are unwelcoming to new comers. Well, at least Watson is nice.

"Hey, this one has your name on it."I jumped in surprise and turned around to Watson. He nodded over to a door and I went over to him. I took in my room without even opening the door.

The door, is glass, wall is glass, everything transparent. I looked around the floor and saw all the offices are see through. There is only one office that you can't see through because it's tinted, very tinted. The office is straight across from mine. I took a wild guess and said it was Mr. Valerian's.

"He uh, likes his privacy and he likes seeing his employees do their work." He explained putting his hands in his pocket.

I self noted not to do anything embarrassing or even the slightest bit wrong. I didn't want him to kick-, no bad thought, no bad thoughts.

"Wow."

"Holler if ya need me." He gave me a lazy smile before strolling down the hall. I nodded and waved while entering my office. I looked around noticing it was so vacant and boring. I wondered who was here before me, probably many. People come and go from this job and lose everything, I didn't want to be another one. It was like you have everything or you lose it.

I live alone while my parents live in France. My sister is somewhere across the country doing God knows what. We didn't have that sibling bond like any other family. When we were younger she was more out there than I was and continued it into adulthood. We moved to America when I was about six and my sister eight. When I turned Eighteen I went to college came back and found out my parents were moving back to France since me and my sister could take care of ourselves. Don't get me wrong, my parents love us and I love them, but I guess they just missed their homeland.

This isn't my first job, I was a intern for a corporate not too long ago, they said I could have the job once I finished college, but this job was financially better for me. My parents weren't poor, but weren't rich either. My goal is to be happy and financially stable.

I honestly didn't think I would get the job because I only worked as an intern. Although he didn't even interview me himself, he sent someone else to do it.

I gazed out the glass walls and glanced over the profesional looking men and women typing away on their computers and writing things on papers. The people here looked like they have a lot of experience under their belt while I'm here young and inexperienced. It made me think why they even to thought to hire me.

I found on the desk a manual neatly placed in the middle of it. I hummed then pick it up. I strolled over to sit in my chair and notice a note next to my computer.

Ms. Travers,

Read the manual surely and carefully before starting your work at Valerian's Co. that is your first assignment. Fail to follow the manual, you will be immediately released and out of a job. Since you are new and most inexperienced one in this building, you shall run my errands, answer my emails, and set my meetings. On top of that you will be filing reports. I will be contacting you through via text, so have your phone on you at all times. If you do not do what I ask, your pay will be deducted for the month. Welcome to the real world.

From,

Mr. Valerian

I didn't know wether to be offended or not. I had to do all of that and on top of that file reports. What kind of mess is this, first real job and it sucked before it began. I could imagine him just screaming at me everyday.

I sighed and picked the manual back up and read through it. The book wasn't that big, maybe a couple of pages. Goodness, though did it have so many rules. My eyes furrow on the rules of cleanliness. One stain, even a tiny one, if it's noticeable, you're suspended. I guess I have to keep a extra shirt. No talking to Mr. Valerian until spoken to. I wasn't surprised. Relationships should be filed, if not both fired, damn.

After about an hour I get through the many rules and regulations through that thin book. They really should change it from manual to rule book.

My phone dings and I peeked at it seeing it's from an unknown number.

Unknown : save this to your contacts. This is Valerian. I'm going to send you my password for my email, skip inappropriate ones. Before you schedule a meeting go over it with me before setting it. Lastly, get me black coffee with no sugar from Philip's Cafe now, be back in 45, no more.

I blinked twice as I looked up where Philip's is making sure the time is right. I almost choked when I saw it 35 minutes away. I scrambled up from my chair. I hurriedly rushed to the door and speed walked down the hall to get into the  elevator.

I get to the parking lot panicking and jumped in my car. I pressed the gas speeding down to Philip's. I was wondering why the hell would he give me 45 minutes to get the damn coffee if he knew it would take 35 minutes to get there.

I'm going to be fired over coffee.

After getting the coffee I sped back into the building and looked down at my watch to see how much time I got. Before I knew it someone rammed into my shoulder causing me to spill the coffee that was scalding hot onto my white blouse. Saying I wanted to cry was an understatement.

"Oops, sorry intern." A woman sarcastically apologized and giggled with her friends. "Well, it was nice knowing you since you definitely won't be here tomorrow." The woman eyes were on my stained shirt. They all strutted to wherever they were going and I'm left staring blankly at a wall with a burned chest.

Those son of a bitches.

First and last job. Broke two rules at one time, stained my shirt and is late.

I sulked back into my office and I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I pulled it out and wanted to cry even more.

Mr. Valerian : Late. See me in my office, now.

I cursed in French under my breath as I headed to his office. I heard someone say that no one entered Valerian office unless they're being fired, or is really special. I doubted that I was even remotely special.

I slowly did the walk of shame and make my way to the tinted office. All nosy eyes watched me walk to my death. Snickering and some sighs were heard, or they didn't even say a word.

Being face to face with the door, I huffed in frustration and opened the door to stare death straight in face. I stepped  into the dark room with dimmed lights. The room was huge, but I was less focused on the room and more on the desk.

"Close the door." The cold voice came from the desk. I frowned even more than I was and quietly shut the door behind me.

I took a few more steps to stand in the middle of the room. I fidgeted with the quarter filled coffee in my hand waiting for the two words that could end my career. The chair that was facing it's back towards me spun around slowly and my breath hitched.

Holy macaroni and cheese.
